LMA has struggled passing out of doubles but he hasn't been bad. They basically are sending the house every time he touches the ball. He's doing his job in that regard.

They clearly made up their mind that with Kawhi out, LMA was going to be the go-to guy. He hasn't seen the double coming quick enough at times. But Pop should have talked about how they were going to deal with that as a team, during halftime. They've left him hanging several times, too.

Agreed, there have been times, especially knowing its' coming that LMA handled it poorly. But they are treating Lma like he's MJ. I've very rarely seen a player doubled this hard this consistently for an entire game.

What you said is true but there's also an element of "revenge" and "let's not let LMA get his regardless of the win/loss" in play

He has the right idea A LOT, but he comes up short on execution. I don't know if that's going to get better with experience, or if it's just who he is. But he definitely stretches his boundaries. His aggressiveness keeps pressure on the defense, and he gets it right often enough that they can't ignore it.

He can be. There are times in just about every game where I see him just lost and standing in no man's land doing nothing. Maybe it's not happening as often - I just sort of quit locking in on him. I don't like screaming at the television.

But, yeah, he can be a solid defender. He's also damned good on the boards - to the point that I think Pop can't ignore it. If there was a late possession in a close game, I'd put him in for defense and rebounding.

And I like seeing him sneak out to the 3P line on the offensive end. This may be his best game of the season, IMO.

he still might be better off in a bad team that can give him playing time and some rum. It's tough to catch a rhythm if you are 23 and not playing... Ge will go back to the deep bench and that will be that. At some point we'll see Davis back too I know it.

I think it's possible if you know what kind of player you are to stay in rhythm and contribute consistently. But Anderson has like an identity crisis going on sometimes, so that makes it tougher.

If he was a shooter, then it's like ok you come in and be ready to shoot, play d, or whatever. But other than rebounding well, he doesnt have a "thing". So many times he looks lost offensively.

Maybe like you're saying playing with a bad team will help him find himself.

GG by Simmons he was huge, Manu too. Kyle will get his usual F I imagine

He shouldn't. I hope people take note of the 8 rebounds. He's turning into a good rebounder, and the numbers are there to back that up.

I've been telling you. Get him sliding out to the arc, and start thinking in terms of a stretch 4. Start making some 3's, and when they start closing out, THEN he can put his ball handling skills to work.

I haven't given up on him. I just think Pop has to quit using him as a 2.

Simmons with his best game since the fluke opener, tbh.

He killed Portland last week, too, tbh..

That's what I am saying in part. The game he developed in the dleague and here is different... He has to shoot that shot more... anyways a step in the right direction.

He hasn't been a 2 as much anyway since Green came back, no?

Been more of a 3 and occasionally 4 it seems

I agree with you... They are pushing Dijon along to the 2 and 1... and Simmons has been developing... and there's Manu and Danny. He should only be a forward...

Until
This stretch he had played so little... mostly garbage time really that the bulk of his minutes overall were still at the 2.

Yeah, mostly. I said 2, but he's spending time as a 3, too.

It's not that he can't put the ball on the floor. But his height and lack of quickness just make him a target to get stripped a lot. When he has some space to operate, he can make the right pass and get teammates good shots. But dribbling into traffic is just not going to come out good for him often.

He's not Diaw - I'm not saying that. But he could be used in some of the same ways. If he got a little stronger, and put in some work learning how to back down a defender? I still think he could earn those minutes.

I agree. Idk if he goes that route, cause ultimately it's on him as a player to try to expand his game a bit, and it can be tough to change, especially your body type.

He would still battle for minutes with Lee (and idk if he'd win that unless his shot becomes great) but he'd probably get a couple more mins.

Maybe, lol. But it's not the worst thing in the world. Still lots of time to go before the real season starts.

The Spurs got off to a terrible start, and they really didn't get their feet under them until the end of the second quarter. In fact, they were still down by double digits with 4 minutes left in the half, when Portland basically quit scoring. I shudder to think how bad that first half could have been with Lillard slashing through the Spurs' defense. I'm glad the Spurs won, and that they have been able to overcome early deficits. But they really have to get this first quarter bullshit under control.

The 1st quarter woes and comebacks are not sustainable and will be harder to overcome with better competition.
