View Full Version : OT: Dad Killer's rivals in the 90s..

I was watching the world Darts finals today and realized how much the sport has progressed. 10 years ago if you averaged 100 in a game, you're most likely going to win.

Nowadys the competition is much more fierce. People lose games averaging 109 :wow.....The best Dart Player in the world who is pretty much breaking every record every game and consensus that in a vacum he is the best ever said he wants to win 5 championships..now the mainstream GOAT has won 16..winning championships avergaing high 90s..you cant even make it to the tournament with thosr averages in todays game.

So that led me thinking about the NBA and Coon Jordan's comptition and main rivals in the 90s and compare it to Lebron...

Jordan main wing rival...

Clyde drexler who wasnt even a top 7 player, Jeff Hornacek?

Lebron's wing rival

Durant - Best Scoring win ever
Leonard - Only wing superstar to win two DPOY, finals MVP and average 24
T-mac - Prolific scorer
Kobe - 5 time champions and one time MVP
Harden - Third best offensive SG ever
Wade - 5 time champion and Finals MVP

They're not rivals in the mainstream sense, but rivals in that they played in the same era..

Think about it, the second best wing player of that generation was his teamate who also happend to be good enough to led the Bulls team to a confrence finals...

Sport progressed. Nostalgia faggots and retired players are usually just salty.

HarlemHeat37

Eh, you'll never be able to argue against DK due to circumstances, ap..

If you put Kobe in the 90s on those Bulls teams, there's a 95% chance that he would be considered the GOAT, tbh..

apalisoc_9

Not only was his positional rivals were weak...The 90s also went through expansion teams.

I mean When DK went on his 2 year suspension, Hakeem won two in a row...

Basically speaks volume of the lack of talent around the NBA in the 90s.

Strength of competition isn't really that important (for ranking players)...you shouldn't penalize a guy for playing against worse competition. It's not his fault that other players at his position happened to be worse at the time. Most people agree Jordan would be dominant in any era.

But yes, competition is better today.

Jordan would not be dominant in any era..Maybe the eras before, sure.

But a significant impovement in conpetition level could very well mean..him reaching a few All-stars but never a championship.

There is nothing to suggest that he would be a multiple champions in this era..everythig points to him having a much more difficult time.

THE CASE against lebron in the east is not about regular season or finals games. It's about having 2-3 tough 7 game series instead of 1-2. There are actually more similarities between Jordan and Lebron.

Both got manhandled by the Celtics before they went crying to daddy (Stern for Jordan, SuperFriends for Lebron).
Both struggled against physical defense and benefited from the league tweaking rules to help them dominate more (NBA rules changed FOR Jordan, NBA continued to changed rules and Lebron just benefited from it along with all the other perimeter based players).
Both had ugly jumpshots and questionable range at the start of the careers, and both fixed the jumpers later on.
Both relied on brute physical dominance at the beginning of the careers, and then transitioned to a more skills and ref based game later on to continue dominance.
Both are slaves of Nike.
Both went bald because of PEDs
Both went through unnatural muscle gains as they grew older
Both choked in the finals ... oh sorry, only one did.

I don't have a problem saying today's NBAers are softer, tbh, I don't think I've ever denied that..it's a positive thing, though..

The majority of yesterday's NBAers were low-skilled, unathletic players that had to rely on their "toughness" and their inadequacies were masked by handchecking, slow pace and ugly physicality that ruined the game..of course they had to be "tough", that was one of their only positive traits:lol not to mention that nearly 30% of the league consisted of White American players, meaning they had to have "heart" and "grit" to stay on the court(in reality, it was politics, though, but everybody knows how disadvantaged White athletes are labeled, such as having "deceptive speed", etc)..

Using social media examples is silly, though..if there was social media in yesterday's league, the problems would be faaaaarrrr worse, considering the a large chunk of the players were sociopaths and criminals..

It's pretty embarrassing to look back at some of the players that were popular in the 90s, tbh..the top 3 players of that generation(Dad Killer, Olajuwon and Malone) were murderers and pedophiles:(..I don't know how you can look at yourself in the mirror after openly cheering for somebody of that nature..that's just the superstars, too..

The highest rated series in NBA history was the 1998 Finals with an 18.7 number..29 million people tuned in to watch a series where the 2nd best player was known to have had sex with and impregnated a 12-year old girl:vomit::vomit::vomit:

Tbh you can't really list all those western conference wings as "rivals" when he only plays them twice a year. So of that entire list Wade was the only true rival, and yet even then he never played against him in the post season and eventually left Cleveland and joined his team.

He also never played Kobe or T-Mac in the post season. Only Kawhi twice and he sucked against him most of the time and Durant/Harden just once before their peaks when OKC fluked into the Finals with tremendous ref assistance against a much better team the round before.

So, rivals? What rivals? He keeps choosing to play in the weaker conference to avoid them all.

Clyde Drexler was an excellent player too btw. Don't show your ignorance by hating. He would be getting plenty of MVP votes this year with the stats he was putting up in his prime from 87-92.

jordan won't be hailed as the unanimous best player today though, that's for sure. I mean, I'd still pick this years LeBron over a prime jordan, tbh. ive been watching the nba for about 20 years now, and I can honestly say I've never seen a player that can impact the game more than LeBron (prime shaq a strong second, peak non choking version of steph curry third) just calling a spade, a spade tbh.

LOL, did you even see him play at the time? He revolutionized basketball like few players ever have.

That proves you didn't watch him or at least see his peak. Where do you think all of these ball hogging chuckers from the last decade come from, watching Larry Bird? Did people wait in line for and rob each other over Magic Johnson shoes? :lol

Oh yeah for sure..I mean he's alway going be to known as GOAT because of cicumstances in competition.

But, it's pretty darn clean the skill level today on average is significantly better.

Heck you even see it on other levels.

I was watching some tapes of college games about 30 years ago, and man, those college teams wouldnt even stand a chance against a the Highchool of redwood down 13the ave...

I meam ridoculous.

Its like technology brotha..these guys be saying their windows 95 is more powerful than todays computers.

People dont understand progress.

You're the one who actually doesn't understand the kind of progress that the NBA (and sports overall) has undergone.

As I've proven numerous times, human athleticism is basically maxed out. The biggest "progressions" we're seeing in sports are occurring with regard to more effective and efficient skill training techniques and big data analytics, which help coaches and players better maximize their strengths and work on their weaknesses. Jordan doesn't have any kind of physical, athletic, nor mental weakness that would intrinsically prevent him from being the best player in the league (him and LBJ would be neck and neck).

Kawhi is a top 5 player and is someone who actually has a variety of athletic weaknesses. A poor 32" vertical, poor hang time, weak first step explosiveness, average lateral quickness. Jordan, who is about the same size as Leonard, completely outclasses Kawhi in pretty much every athletic attribute you can name while possessing the greatest work ethic in NBA history. Jordan would adapt to any new challenges the modern NBA would present. When this conversation comes up, I always like to use Duncan as an example, who adapted to 3 different NBA eras pretty seamlessly. Shit, he was arguably the best big man defender in the league last season and he basically has no knees.

I don't see Jordan having any problem with modern wings. Kawhi doesn't. And like I said, Jordan is Kawhi but with world class athleticism.

Yesterday's NBAer and top 5 pick Jim Jackson confirming how difficult it must be to play in the social media era:

RPUBDQj4iUo

Nick Young got sonned on Social Media & everyone has turned their backs this season since he's producing on the court. Gaymond does whatever he wants & gets praised b/c he helps his team win.

Wouldn't be any different for Kemp, Iverson, Barkley, Jordan...winning cures all.:sleep

Dumb people will find dumb ways to get caught up, has been like thousands of years before AOL.:wakeup
