I was looking for a series to watch and Sherlock has incredible reviews. Is it as good as they say? I was never really in to Sherlock Holmes but might give this a try.

You'd also get the toothbush thing, understood buying clothes then when he changed he'd simply buy some more dumping what he had on. The wandering and his military service. Without reading the books you have no idea what was going on with any of that.

The guy is just wandering around and all he owns is.....a toothbrush. You'd also know about his thing for them old blues. In one of the books he is heading off to Georgia to see if he can figure out what did happen to Blind Blake (a 1920's bluesman who just disappeared). Obviously he gets side tracked and off into another adventure.

You don't get just how bad the Conan movies have been until ya read the books.

You...MUST..read "To Kill a Mockingbird" "East of Eden" "Gone With The Wind" and "Of Mice and Men" before watching the movie.

Hollywood totally blew Mary Shelleys classic "Frankenstein", but unless you've read the book how would ya know? They bombed on Bran Stokers "Dracula' but unless you've read the book how would ya know?

There is no Sherlock Holmes without the books. That's why ya start there.

I probably will check a couple out. From what I heard, it's not something you'd binge watch anyway and that every episode pretty much has a beginning and ending. So something you could stretch out. (bend over, I'll show you something you can stretch out).

Another one I'm thinking about is Prime Suspect with Helen Mirran.

If you know nothing about the Elric stories you won't know about that sword. Stormbringer IS the Elric saga. A vampiric runeblake that must feed off blood or Elric weakens. Without reading the books you know none of that.

I discovered the Conan stories long ago, talk about one of the truly amazing sagas, there it is. Robert E. Howard (Texan) totally nails it. When it comes to the sword & sorcery genre, it starts there. The stories and Howards style have you dying to get back to the book. The real....couldn't put it down.

So when Hollywood decided the bring the gigantic, brooding Cimmerian to the silver screen, all of us familiar with the stories were thrilled. Bummer the movie failed to capture the magic. Not Arnolds fault, he made a great Conan.

You know the movie was a fail because ya had read the books.

I remember that one. Although I could have sworn it was Peter Sellers that played him. Looked it up and maybe I'm confusing it with The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu. But I've seen both I'm sure.

Listen guy...it's good you learned something but how do you get from the book where Dr. Lao is around 130 and then...Tony Randal??! At least 170. It's why you read the book first. Lao was an athletic cat...a gymnast. And now Felix is supposed to be...that guy?!?! Trust me...you didn't enjoy the movie.

Only saw part of the first episode (which was loosely based on "A Study in Scarlet"- too loosely, imo) but it's definitely well-casted with Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Watson.

Finally dug into this show over the weekend. Love it. Well written and great acting. I did end up turning on subtitles in the 2nd or 3rd episode. I could understand everyone fine except for Cumberbatch. Especially when he went on one of his rambles.
Very enjoyable.
