I would have been fine with Kawhi shooting there. It was a little crowded but it was Delly who rotated IIRC. He had momentum going towards the rim and he's been really good there. He made the right play, but I would have liked him to be a little selfish there.
Its not a bad play or anything and no fault on Kawhi - it was a great pass and Manu just laughably bad.

Warriors then came back and beat the Lakers by 50. Spurs were lucky to barely beat the Bucks in Milwaukee.
Kawhi should have taken the shot. He could have released that ball within 2-3 feet of the rim, with only a dwarf in the way. That's a high percentage shot, which is what you want there. Then he made an off-target pass to Manu, that made him take a step closer to the baseline to catch and re-set. Manu put up a shit shot, but Kawhi screwed the pooch on that play. I sat and watched it three times to see if I missed anything. Kawhi screwed the pooch.

I don't fault him there overall but I would have liked him to shoot. At the end of the day Kawhi going to the rim was the right play and an obvious call down two. He had many good options because of his drive and made a good enough pass. He's not a natural playmaker though.

The offense, outside of when Mills was running the show, did it's job. Even with all the missed shots, they put up points and the shots they missed were good looks. Offense is about generating as many open looks as possible. Can't control make or miss.
This game was lost on defense obviously. Just not good enough on the perimeter and stopping drives.

Comparing this team to the 2014 team. :lol
The 2014 roster would tear this team to shreds. You make it sound like the Spurs are the only team come playoff time that will go off... Don't you think the Rockets, Clippers, and Warriors play harder too? :lol
I don't fault him there overall but I would have liked him to shoot. At the end of the day Kawhi going to the rim was the right play and an obvious call down two. He had many good options because of his drive and made a good enough pass. He's not a natural playmaker though.
I'm not running him down - he's still Kawhi. But Manu was squared up, and ready to shoot. If that pass had been on target, there's a much better chance he makes it. He had to step toward the baseline, then set up again. I know people will scream, but it's a lot harder shot when you were moving sideways to the basket. It wasn't horrible. But that time, the pass really needed to be dead-on, and it wasn't.

It wasn't rest. It's a bug that's going around several teams.
Jimmy Butler, Kawhi, Giannis, K. Love, Lebron, etc... It's actually quite common for this to happen.
Just because Pop has a tendency to rest guys, doesn't mean you automatically assume he's doing this to rest him. It's actually legit why he's out.

Comparing this team to the 2014 team. :lol
The 2014 roster would tear this team to shreds. You make it sound like the Spurs are the only team come playoff time that will go off... Don't you think the Rockets, Clippers, and Warriors play harder too? :lol
We'll just have to see, wont we

bullshit. I can believe the other guys, but Popvovich has a history of this shit. I believe nothing he says when players are out.

Meh. Spurs lost. Let's move on. It's annoying how after every loss people like to pinpoint our weaknesses like we're the only team in the league that has them while believing the other contenders don't have flaws or theirs are more fixable than our problems. bklynspursfan is one of the few rational posters after every game.

It's just incredible, people act like we aren't going to lose games in the regular season. There will be bad losses, there will be big time wins. It's what happens throughout an 82 game season. Not every player is going to play great every night.

Where is the "This Team Without LMA" thread?
This flu has kicked my ass, and I didn't wake up until midway through the 4th. But it looks to me like, without Aldridge, Pau wasn't exactly a defensive juggernaut. The Spurs scored a shitload of points, but they gave up a shitload of points +2. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the lack of a defensive anchor is sort of a problem.

I'm sorry but the Spurs have choked badly every year this decade outside of 2014.
Fact. People have very every right to be skeptical.

They have choked 80% of the time. That's pretty bad. 2014 was an incredible run but the Spurs don't just lose in the playoffs, they do it in the most embarrassing way possible.

2011 - 8
2012 - Spurs blew a 2-0 lead
2013 - 6
2015 - Became the Clippers' sons. The Clippers.
2016 - Choked to the team that choked a 3-1 lead to the team that choked another 3-1 lead.

I think Kawhi is a little scared of missing. I see/feel he's shrinking when it comes to taking a shot or scoring on the last play.
That was obviously a play Pop designed for him to drive & kick since the Bucks were going to swarm him like they had been doing in the 4th quarter.

You can't choke if you overachieve. Some years we did that. Wasn't until Kawhi came that we were legit title contenders.
If we choked, then so has every other team aside from the team who wins it all

They had HCA in 2011, one of the few #1 seeds to choke to an 8th seed. They had HCA in 2012 and a 2-0 lead. Teams with a 2-0 lead win the series 83% of the time. They had a 5 point lead with 30 seconds left to win the title. They literally wheeled out the trophy. Teams with a 5 point lead in the Finals with 30 seconds or less left win the game 99% of the time. In 2015 they had a 3-2 series lead and choked game 6 at home to close out the series, they were up 7 with 5 minutes with Chris Paul missing 15 minutes due to injury and choked it away. In 2016 they had the best record in Spurs history, had one of the most lopsided Game 1 wins ever and HCA...and got humiliated by OKC
Over achieving is when a team has a Cinderella run or a lower seed faces a higher seed. Spurs always blow it in an embarrassing fashion every year this decade outside of 2014.
Again, just stating the facts, it is what it is, and 2014 makes all the other playoff chokes easier to accept since that 2014 title was so incredible. So if people are going to be down on the team or see some glaring weaknesses you can't blame them. Spurs are always built much more for the regular season than the playoffs.

Ditto on Patty- he was getting torched on defense and couldn't get a shot off. Definitely think a contested 2 by Kawhi was the way to go, but these guys trust each other and Manu was wide open. It's in their DNA to go to the wide open player.

There are only four teams that should be of any concern to Spurs fans -
1. Cleveland Cavs
2. Golden St. Warriors
3. Clippers
4. Houston Rockets
No other teams matter. Losses are going to happen but at the end of the day, the only teams that will stand in the way of the Spurs winning a Championship are the ones listed above. So, debate all you want, discuss lineup changes, roster moves, etc.. (what else is this forum for?) but unless those things impact the Spurs chances against the four teams listed above - it doesn't matter.

No doubt in my mind that Kawhi executed the play that Pop had drawn up. Manu just bricked the shot. But the game was being lost all game long by the horrible defense. That's the truth. Our defense was really poor. Sometimes it seemed like we were funneling their guys to the basket. I felt a bad premonition at the end of the second quarter which Manu mentioned in his post-game interview. We looked to have the game in the bag before a 7 point turn around in the last two minutes. The 3 ft's off the Kawhi foul really hurt. He obviously wasn't shooting, but the refs seemed to assume he was going to because of the clock. Bad foul either way.
