View Full Version : Pop on Manu...

"Manu is somebody that could play another 5 or 6 years. This season I thought about leaving him out, lower his minutes and let him do my job because he's been telling me what to do for a long time", said Pop in Ciudad de Mexico, where the Spurs lost 108-105 to the Phoenix Suns (Manu scored 16 points).
"I'm smart enough to listen to him because he's a great player and an amazing human being. This season his role is being a mentor to the younger players. He's played less minutes, but whenever he plays he's Manu Ginobili and he competes at the highest level, he does everything in his power to win. Obviously, his future is in the Hall of Fame. This season his leadership is much more important than what he does on the court because he knows a lot, and he relays that to the younger players", Pop concluded.

I didn't, tbh...Just being sarcastic. This team's wings with the exception of Kawhi, obviously, are just not very good.

That part about Manu playing 5-6 years tho... him and Tony 5 more years... :lol
Thanks for sharing Nono.. I have thought mentorship in the PnR is precisely what he's been doing... Simmons has improved a lot, he's just not consistent.. Dijon is young and already showing signs...
I have thought it's his last season and this despite some criticism have to enjoy him. But one never knows. I am sure by the looks of it Pop would like him back next season too...

The guy is insanely senile. No doubt in my mind he will go to the Manure step back airball late in a playoff game
and fuck the yes men he's surrounded with too, even Udoka. One of those clowns in suits will be next smh
Think how well that story plays to the Spanish-speaking fans. Pop is an advance scout in the NBA's colonization effort.

Talking about messages. I'm getting tired of "There are other more things than basketball" "NASA discovered all those habitable planets..." after every fucking loss.
Pop making fun of the loss is the right message for the young players on the team? C'mon Pop.

Manure looked off a WIDE OPEN Kawhi to pass the ball to Pau in the post so he can get the ball back for a step back brick; he even shot a dead-ball 3 after the foul on Pau.:lol

Pop is on a goodwill mission so folks won't turn on him like they have on Phil when he gets exposed as a senile old man.:lol

I have to admit, that was awful. He was clearly looking to redeem himself after that Bucks miss shot. He had a pass to kawhi with Aldridge set to make a screen.

Manu could've too. (He's the superior passer :) )Kawhi wasn't wide open tho. Just an odd play. Would've had Pau benched tbh
Prior to that, Manu got us in the game again. But folks will have selective memory of course

Was Kawhi wide open tho? I seriously don't see it.
Again, we wouldn't have been it had it not been for Manu. Since you bring up Anderson, he wouldn't have done what Manu did prior to that pass.
Kawhi would've caught the ball with a defender right on him. Maybe another time out would've been better, or putting better FT shooters.

He did the same after the 2013 finals... People on here are hilarious. Just cause a loss isn't the end of the world to him like it is to the cliff divers here, people think his fire is gone.

He was open with his man trailing the play behind him... a tougher pass than that Kyle made on an inbound play against the Hawks...it was a perfectly possible and regular pass that's made in many situations not just out of time out... Manu wanted the 3 pt shot that he took off Pau's pass... had Tony done that you know guys would be all over it but bc it's Manu... no problem right... and I am not criticizing Manu in general but he did shoot a terrible shot off Kawhi pass 2 games ago and he looked Kawhi off on that play..!

Manu probably wanted to go according to Pops call. That's fine Kyle made a tougher pass against the Hawks. Different team/scenario which makes it moot point. Surely you've seen the tough passes Manu has made and is capable of
And had Tony made the game winning shot, people would've complained. You won't get lots of rational criticizing here, which is why I think it's irrational trying to blame Manu lol. It ignores everything else he did. We likely aren't winning even if Kawhi gets the ball. He was missing FTs short too. Tells you his legs weren't all there. #altitude

"a loss" as in 1? It's not that we're losing, it's HOW we're losing and no adjustments are being made. I can deal with loss. I've dealt with hundreds of them for years. But Popopich is almost 70s years old. He just coaches like his memory is gone or he's just there collecting a check. It's one of the 2 or both. A lot of guys here are player fans. Tim Duncan is my favorite player of all time. i have followed him since Wake Forrest when he was a 2nd option to Randolph Childress. I have vhs tapes to prove it. Followed him when Camby destroyed him on the big stage during his junior season. Even though he's my favorite of all time, I was glad he retired because he was a shell of his former self. Same with Bernard Hopkins. He's also my favorite fighter of all time but I wanted him to retire 2 years ago. I just don't understand how fans of their favorite players want to see them coninue to play when they have very little left. It's silly. And Popovich falls under this too. It's a new basketball game in which damn near the whole league is shooting 3's. Team defense you taught 15 years ago aren't going to work today.

Maybe it was just me projecting my own feelings, but in that interview after the side-of-the-backboard brick, Manu's facial expressions and body language seemed to show that he was realizing perhaps his time was VERY near the end.
