Good food - duh.

Good service though. I can't tell you how much I hate shitty service. I've worked the service industry, and I hate getting bad service so damn much.

That plus a clean, well kept place is it. Period.

1. food. it HAS to have good food.
2. clean. ever have to send a fork back 3 times till you got a good one??
3. waitstaff. noone super freakishly friendly. just be knowledgeable, agreeable, and quietly attentive. as in: don't aske me every 3 mins how my meal is or if I need more tea - just bring some tea whne you see it;s low.
4.noise level. I hate when I can;t hear myself think.
5. tvs. either have enough TV's for everyone to see the game or don;t put any up at all.

The one thing that I'll usually watch for when I go to a place for the first time is the host/hostess. I've found that you can usually get a good feel for the place just from that. This is the one person who every single customer will have to deal with so if the restaurant has hired an idiot for that position then I generally find that the other aspects of the restaurant aren't all that great either.

That's a good point. Noisy restaurants suck. Maybe lining the ceiling with old galvanized barn siding is not the brightest idea in the world <cough Soilitas in Seguin cough>

All I care about when I go to a restaurant is how the food tastes. If I'm not on a date I could give a shit about ambience or wine lists or any of that crap. Having tequila and Dos XX is nice, but not something that would sway my decision.

a good restaurant must have
1) great food
2)it has to be a clean place
3)it must include music
4)the manager/owner must be attentive and be on the waiters.
5)great waiters
6)reasonable prices

I always start my waiters @ $5.(I never tell them ofcourse)and they decide if they want to work and keep it @ $5.
