Capitalism's money corrupted the myth of American democracy to death decades ago.

That self-congratulating myth, along with lots of other bullshit Americans fool themselves with, persists.

voting is bullshit

see the Princeton study that showed 95%+ of the time, ALL politicians follow the preferences of BigDonor, not the preferences of their voters. Only incidentally do the two sets of preferences overlap.

Even if the study's percentage is on the high side, it indicates an irrefutable truth.

Voting blue in a red/slave state might feel good, but it's wasted vote.

The Senate is a fucking disaster for representative democracy, with a tiny minority of Americans having more Senate votes than the huge majority.

Capping the House 435 Reps is another anti-proportional disaster. A recent possibility was that 40M CA would lose a House seat to fucking MT, IIRC.

DNC, supposedly the liberal party of "the people", of the Have-Nots, has announced it will blackball any orgs that work for challengers to Dem incumbents, strangling challengers. iow, DNC is aborting any more AOCs and similar challengers.

These are structural, Constitutional failures in America that the oligarchy has rigged magnificently, and the oligarchy will BUY the blockage of any attempts to unrig their status quo.

because of voting, but the oligarchy controls the anti-democratic, perverted Senate so NOTHING the Dem House passes will go into law. So the "blue wave" of Dems will accomplish nothing, even if corrupt, snarky, "only 5 AOC types" Pelosi allows bills on the floor.

And much of what progressives sue for will be blocked by Repugs' young, incompetent rightwing ideologues in Federal district and appellate courts. and those judges are untouchable, beyond the reach of voting.

U.S. Press Freedom Gets Labeled ‘Problematic’ For The First Time

The 2019 World Press Freedom Index downgraded the U.S. three spots to 48 out of 180 countries in terms of a free press.

The United States has become a “problematic” place for

journalists as they continue to face a stream of threats and attacks on their safety,

downgraded the U.S. by three spots compared with last year.

The drop, which puts them at 48 out of 180 countries,

changes the U.S. press freedom status from “satisfactory” to “problematic.”

It’s the first time the country has received that label.

an increasingly hostile climate that goes beyond Donald Trump (https://www.huffpost.com/news/topic/donald-trump)’s comments,

“Never before have U.S. journalists been subjected to so many death threats or turned so often to private security firms for protection.”

Trump has played a significant role in hostility toward media,

repeatedly accusing journalists of reporting “fake news” and calling them the “enemy of the American people.”

He has also cheered on violence against journalists

the president’s repeated attacks undermine press freedom and raise the risk of violence against journalists.

“The president’s relentless attacks against the press has created

an environment where verbal, physical and online threats and assault against journalists are being normalized,”

THE ADVENTURES OF BARON TRUMPHAUSEN

https://whowhatwhy.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/image1-5-700x470.jpg

the certainty that this administration is the most (morally) corrupt and dysfunctional in US history, and that it is headed by a president

who was only saved from prosecution because the people working for him routinely had the good sense to disregard his orders.

They just don’t care because they value power over everything else — including their own integrity.

The real problem is that he clearly intended to obstruct justice and that he hoped to recruit Russian help to win the election.

the president has very clearly instilled a culture of dishonesty at the highest levels of government.

Nothing will ever be the same again because of Trump. And the GOP continues to turn a blind eye.

Trump frequently talks (and lies (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/04/02/trump-wrongly-claims-his-dad-was-born-germany-third-time/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.c4895a5798ca)) about his German heritage.

It would certainly not be surprising

if he were related to the famous Baron Munchausen, perhaps literature’s most famous braggart

Among Munchausen’s outlandish stories were that

he rode a cannonball,

flew to the moon,

rode a horse split into two, and

pulled himself out of a swamp by his own hair.

The brilliance of Munchausen’s tall tales was that they involved claims so bizarre that they were utterly unbelievable and ridiculous.

Obviously,

Trump makes such statements all the time, like saying that he has “one of the great memories of all time (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnVpGoyKfKU).”

By the way, in his written answers to the Mueller team, the president said “I can’t remember” or “I do not recall” 27 times (https://www.politico.com/story/2019/04/18/mueller-trump-cant-remember-1282643).

if he were to tell congressional Republicans, or the 30 percent of Americans who still buy into his lies, that he rode a cannonball, they would congratulate him on accomplishing such an amazing feat.

one thing Trump and the real Munchausen appear to have in common:

Hieronymus Carl Friedrich Freiherr von Münchhausen fought for Russia from 1738 to 1750.

Trump Launches ‘Unhinged’ Two-Hour Twitter Rant

https://49f6rfjar763vnsgn1y42mip-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/trump-twitter-03.png

Trump found two hours Tuesday morning to air his grievances with the media, congressional Democrats, Twitter, and the European Union in a series of unhinged tweets that are sure to kick off yet another round of speculation about his mental state.

Trump appeared to be angry with Krugman’s Monday column in which he accuses Republicans of being a “party that no longer believes in American values. (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/22/opinion/trump-republican-party.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage)”

“Paul Krugman, of the Fake News New York Times, has lost all credibility, as has the Times itself, with his false and highly inaccurate writings on me,” Trump tweeted (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1120628334432608256).

“He is obsessed with hatred, just as others are obsessed with how stupid he is.”

the president again

falsely claimed that the New York Times apologized to him for its 2016 coverage (that didn’t happen), and

wondered if the Times would apologize to him again.

“But this one will have to be a far bigger & better apology,” Trump tweeted (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1120630405831569408).

“On this one they will have to get down on their knees & beg for forgiveness-they are truly the Enemy of the People!”

he then accused Democrats of being “totally insane (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1120633085618421760)” — which given this bonkers tweet storm is one serious example of projection.

Trump went on to claim that because the economy is doing well, that means he should be “immune from criticism.”

“In the ‘old days’ if you were President and you had a good economy, you were basically immune from criticism,” Trump tweeted (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1120635200327831552).

“Remember, ‘It’s the economy stupid.’

Today I have, as President, perhaps the greatest economy in history

…and to the Mainstream Media, it means NOTHING. But it will!”

Trump the media critic then returned, as he praised (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1120639589994106881) Fox & Friends for being the best morning show and

attacked MSNBC’s Morning Joe for being “Dumb and Sick (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1120642109676118016)” — his capitalization.

Trump also took Twitter to task, criticizing (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1120650189537202176) it for being “hard for people to sign on” to and “constantly taking people off list.”

It appears someone needs to help teach the president how to remember his username and password.

Trump Furious After Twitter’s Bot Purge Leaves Him with Fourteen Followers

WASHINGTON —Donald J. Trump was reportedly “furious” on Wednesday morning after a purge of right-wing bots by Twitter left him with a total of fourteen remaining followers, aides have confirmed.

Rising at 3 a.m. to engage in one of his trademark early-morning tweetstorms, Trump was incensed to discover that his Twitter following had

plummeted from more than forty-eight million to a little more than a dozen.
At Twitter headquarters, in San Francisco, a company spokesman confirmed that Trump had indeed lost 48,076,920 followers in the bot purge.

“It turned out that over forty-six million of the President’s followers came from a single troll farm in Macedonia,” the spokesman said.

As of Wednesday, Trump’s fourteen remaining Twitter followers included

his daughter Ivanka;
his sons Eric and Donald, Jr.;
several White House aides; and

someone named Heinrich Himmler III.

“We’re praying that Heinrich is a real person,” a White House aide said.

“The President can’t afford to lose another follower.”

“THIS IS NOT A MEA CULPA”: HOW TRUMP WEAPONIZED THE TIMES’S POST-ELECTION NON-APOLOGY TO READERS

A message composed in haste to shocked subscribers after Trump’s election has become one of Trump’s favorite Twitter cudgels. But the Times says it “never apologized.”

For the Times, the dubious apology claims are a dead horse at this point.

“Once again, repeating it over and over doesn’t make it any more true,

a note to readers (https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/13/us/elections/to-our-readers-from-the-publisher-and-executive-editor.html)—as unusual for the Times as the election had been for the country—from then-publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. and executive editor Dean Baquet.

“After such an erratic and unpredictable election,” it said,

“there are inevitable questions:

Did Donald Trump’s sheer unconventionality lead us and other news outlets to underestimate his support among American voters?

What forces and strains in America drove this divisive election and outcome?

Most important, how will a president who remains a largely enigmatic figure actually govern when he takes office?

As we reflect on the momentous result,

Rudy Giuliani has to be the worst lawyer in the world ... especially when his clients are criminals.

During his Fox News appearance, however,

Giuliani suggested the IRS has finished looking into Trump’s taxes.

“The IRS has investigated his taxes,” Guiliani sad.

“They exist to come after us if we don’t pay our taxes.

We know they’re damn good and they’re confidential and they don’t leak.

If they haven’t gone after him on taxes, for that six-year period, then there is nothing wrong with his taxes.”

“They can’t investigate his taxes better than the IRS,” Giuliani continued, referring to the Democratic lawmakers on the House Ways and Means committee who are seeking Trump’s tax information.

“They want his taxes to embarrass him.”

But if the IRS has indeed completed its investigation and found nothing improper — as his lawyer just claimed — Trump’s repeated promises should make Congress’ request a moot point.

DONALD TRUMP MAY ALREADY BE COMMITTING NEW CRIMES

In retaliating against witnesses, the president is leaving himself open to the possibility of fresh criminal charges—and possible indictment after he exits the White House.

the president’s social-media musings can come back to haunt him, such as when his tweeting (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/mueller-report-russia-investigation-findings/2019/04/18/b07f4310-56f9-11e9-814f-e2f46684196e_story.html?utm_term=.cc37b96767b3#MAN AFORTTWEET) about Paul Manafort was cited as possible evidence of obstruction.

, Trump has tweeted about the Russia probe more than 50 times (https://www.politico.com/story/2019/04/24/mueller-report-trump-evidence-1288798) in the the days since the redacted Mueller report was released,

with increasingly forceful attacks (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/22/us/politics/mcgahn-trump-attacks.html) on former White House counsel Don McGahn,

who Trump allies fear could help lawmakers build a case for impeachment.

Indeed, reports Politico (https://www.politico.com/story/2019/04/24/mueller-report-trump-evidence-1288798), going on a rage-filled vendetta against McGahn,

who knows where all Trump’s bodies are buried,

is probably one of the president’s dumber ideas:

Bad News For Trump As Voters Aren’t Buying His Immigration Lies

A new poll shows that voters aren’t Trump’s portrayal of immigrants as criminal and reject Trump notion that immigrants commit more crimes than citizens.

According to the Monmouth University poll: (https://www.monmouth.edu/polling-institute/reports/monmouthpoll_us_042519/)

One rationale for many of the proposals, including the border wall, is to prevent an influx of violent criminals.

However, most Americans do not believe that illegal immigrants are more likely than other U.S. residents to commit violent crimes.

Just 21% say they are more likely to commit crimes like rape or murder,

while 50% say they are about as likely as other Americans to do this,

and 24% say they are actually less likely to commit these types of crimes.

These results are fairly consistent with prior polls since 2015.

In terms of economic impacts of illegal immigration,

few people (24%) feel that illegal immigrants take away jobs from American citizens.

Most (60%) say illegal immigrants fill jobs that Americans do not want.

There are no significant differences in these results by income level.

This opinion has not shifted significantly since 2015.

Trump smears of immigrants have flopped

The reason why Trump hardline immigration policies have failed to gain any traction with the public outside of his base is that

most people don’t believe the assumptions behind Trump’s policies.

They don’t believe that immigrants come to the US to steal American jobs, and

they don’t buy by a nearly three to one margin the Trump belief that immigrants are more likely to commit crimes.

Judge blocks Trump’s cutoff of Planned Parenthood subsidies

A federal judge in Washington state on Thursday blocked a Trump administration cutoff of U.S. subsidies for poor women obtaining birth control from Planned Parenthood and other clinics that offer abortion services or information to patients, according to the state attorney general.

preliminary injunction bars enforcement nationwide of a policy due to go into effect on May 3 over the vehement objections of abortion supporters,

who have decried it as a “gag rule” that would prevent doctors from doing their jobs.

“Today’s ruling ensures that clinics across the nation can remain open and continue to provide quality, unbiased healthcare to women,” Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson said in a statement announcing the decision.

OK, so after two years of hard work and each party trying their best to make the other party look as bad as possible, it’s time to get back to business. The Mueller Report strongly stated that there was No Collusion with Russia (of course) and, in fact, they were rebuffed.....
...at every turn in attempts to gain access. But now Republicans and Democrats must come together for the good of the American people. No more costly & time consuming investigations. Lets do Immigration (Border), Infrastructure, much lower drug prices & much more - and do it now!

Someone Did Get to Look at Trump's Tax Returns: Deutsche Bankers

A trip to Weisselberg’s office but no photocopies allowed
Ivanka served as point person and suggested personal guarantee

The bankers got a look before agreeing to lend to the Trump Organization in 2012 --

access that was described by two people familiar with the interaction.

It was all part of a fresh start on a banking relationship that had soured after the financial crisis, descending into litigation over a Chicago project.

After a recent subpoena (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-15/house-democrats-subpoena-deutsche-bank-others-amid-trump-probe), Deutsche Bank was prepared to begin on May 6 turning over details to Congress about that relationship and its loans to Trump family businesses.

Now, Trump and his family have sued (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-30/trump-sues-to-block-congressional-request-for-bank-records) to stop the flow of information.

That follows an earlier lawsuit (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-22/trump-sues-to-quash-house-subpoena-for-financial-docs) against Democrats and Trump’s outside accounting firm to prevent similar subpoena responses.

Meanwhile, the Treasury Department has balked at supplying Trump’s tax filings from the Internal Revenue Service,

a standoff that could fuel protracted court battles (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-30/for-trump-stalling-deutsche-bank-subpoena-may-be-victory-enough) over the extent of congressional oversight.

A Crack in Trump's Stonewalling

The dike is sprouting more leaks than the president has fingers with which to plug the expanding trickles.

To date, the cover-up has worked about as well as President Donald Trump could have hoped.

he has successfully kept secret almost all the things he wished to keep secret.

basics of post-Watergate official disclosure have all been suppressed.

the American people still have only the haziest idea of Trump’s business connections to Russia and Russians.

If Trump has his way, the secrecy will continue for a lot longer.

In the past few days, he’s filed suit to prevent his bankers from complying with a congressional subpoena.

His secretary of the Treasury has defied a never-before-questioned law and

refused to surrender the president’s tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee.

His attorney general mischaracterized the Mueller report, as Mueller complained in writing, and now has operational control over the ongoing criminal prosecutions bequeathed to the Justice Department by Mueller.

the dike is sprouting more leaks than he has fingers with which to plug the expanding trickles.

Two federal judges, one in Maryland and one in the District of Columbia, have approved lawsuits based on the U.S. Constitution’s emoluments clause demanding information about Trump’s revenues from foreign-government entities.

The dispute over the president’s tax returns has not yet triggered a judicial process.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin must first decide whether he will risk a contempt-of-Congress citation and shoulder personal legal risk.

If the tax-return demand ends up in court,

we’ll witness the unusual spectacle of a Republican administration inviting judges

to reverse decades of conservative legal theory and

to defy the clear letter of the law in favor of nebulous concepts of privacy.

The law very much favors Congress in the subpoena of Trump’s bankers.

Congressional subpoena power extends to any subject on which Congress can constitutionally legislate, among other realms, as the Supreme Court has affirmed again and again.

The Supreme Court explained (https://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-supreme-court/421/491.html) in 1975:

“The wisdom of congressional approach or methodology is not open to judicial veto …

Nor is the legitimacy of a congressional inquiry to be defined by what it produces.

The very nature of the investigative function—like any research—is that

it takes the searchers up some ‘blind alleys’ and into nonproductive enterprises.

To be a valid legislative inquiry there need be no predictable end result.”

Attorney General William Barr has just advanced a likely doomed new legal theory that

a president is entitled to shut down any investigation that he feels is unfair to him:

“The president does not have to sit there constitutionally and allow [a special-counsel investigation] to run its course.

The president could terminate the proceeding and

it would not be a corrupt intent, because he was being falsely accused.”

It’s an argument for total impunity based purely on political power—

and for that reason will gain no favor from either Congress or courts.

so many clocks are ticking over so many inquiries into so many areas of potential scandal.

For a president with many guilty secrets,

everything turns on the ability to insert delay after delay before ultimate legal defeat.

It’s not a great plan.

It’s liable to go wrong, maybe catastrophically wrong.

At this point, though, it’s all he’s got.

Poll: Trump Approval Plummets In Five Key Swing States

Trump’s approval rating has fallen double digits in five key states that he won since the election.

The data shows that in addition to his overall poor approval Trump faces electoral college headwinds before the 2020 election.

In Morning Consult’s most recent survey (https://morningconsult.com/tracking-trump/), Trump is down in the following swing states:

Florida (-24 points),
Ohio (-20),
Michigan (-19),
Wisconsin (-18), and
Pennsylvania (-17).

In 2016, Trump won all of those states, which together represent 93 electoral votes. Trump’s electoral vote margin of victory was 74 points that year.

Even in states where he is likely to win re-election, like

Texas, :lol
Alabama, :lol
Mississippi, :lol and
Wyoming,:lol

Trump has seen steep double-digit declines in support.

The poor showing could very well be the result of

a presidency swimming in corruption, incompetence and bigotry.

Trump’s sole major legislative accomplishment was the tax scam,

which rewarded (https://shareblue.com/republicans-gave-one-big-bank-jp-morgan-3-7-billion-tax-scam/) the uber-wealthy and giant corporations and

has been resoundingly panned (https://shareblue.com/republicans-tax-scam-lies-americans/) by average Americans.

his party lost control of the House of Representatives by a national popular vote margin of over 9.7 million votes (https://cookpolitical.com/analysis/house/house-charts/2018-house-popular-vote-tracker).

When Trump and his ideas are on the ballot, most voters vote against them.

And now, in the states he will need the most to win a second term,

he is under water.

A Peek Behind the Numbers Shows Trump’s Economy Inflicts Pain on Most Americans

*Since Trump took office, according to the Congressional Budget Office,

over one million Americans have lost health insurance. (https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/439754-more-than-1m-more-americans-uninsured-since-2016)

Additionally, a recent study from the American Cancer Society (https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/02/high-health-costs-cause-financial-strain-for-more-than-130-million-us-adults.html) reveals that 56% of American adults, about

137 million, have experienced serious financial struggle, even if insured, because of high deductibles and otherwise skyrocketing healthcare costs.

The Commonwealth Fund reports (https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/02/high-health-costs-cause-financial-strain-for-more-than-130-million-us-adults.html) that 44 million people are under-insured, which means they often forego necessary care because of costs.

What is the Trump administration to address this major economic hurdle to health and well-being for millions of Americans?

If Barr and Trump prevail in this suit, millions of Americans will lose the health insurance they currently have,

including 52 million who have pre-existing conditions.

Moreover, Trump’s proposed 2020 budget (https://thinkprogress.org/trumps-2020-budget-takes-aim-at-the-poor-with-700-billion-cut-to-medicaid-60de03d3ac72/) called for a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security,

shortly after passing $1.5 trillion in tax cuts benefitting largely the wealthy and corporations, to cut these programs to address the ballooning deficit.

Trump’s education policies (https://www.politicususa.com/2019/03/16/trumps-education-cuts-show-its-not-the-economy-stupid-its-just-mean-stupidity.html) make it harder for people to access and afford higher education, which is a key to economic success. These policies impose a great economic burden on families.

Trump’s tariffs are devastating American farmers.

The trade wars Trump has instigated has not only led to the lowest incomes American farmers (https://www.salon.com/2019/04/30/trumps-trade-war-leads-to-the-lowest-income-for-american-farmers-in-years/) have experienced in years but

also caused a record number of bankruptcies (https://portside.org/2019-05-02/stung-trumps-trade-wars-wisconsins-milk-farmers-face-extinction) for Midwest dairy farms.

Over the past two years 1,200 dairy farms have stopped producing milk and another 212 have simply disappeared.

Trump’s tariffs have been extraordinarily harmful to the U.S. steel industry (https://www.cfr.org/blog/trumps-tariffs-are-killing-american-steel) as well.

Trump’s economy is simply devastating people.

*Perhaps less recognizable as an economic issue is the environmental havoc Trump is reaping.

If an economy is supposed to serve the health and well-being and meet the needs of those living in it, then we need to see environmental issues as central to our economy.

Trump, however, has

rolled back key features of the Clean Water Act (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-46526776) and

also rolled back Obama-era regulations regarding mercury emissions (https://www.nbcnews.com/science/environment/mercury-retrograde-trump-epa-orders-rollback-obama-era-regulations-n952931) from coal-fired power plants because of the birth defects and health problems they create.

Harming human health also means, we know, incurring economic costs.

A federal report issued last November (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/federal-report-says-climate-change-will-wallop-u-s-economy-n939521), produced by scientists from the government Trump leads, underscored the economic and human devastation being visited upon us because we are not addressing climate change:

“The impacts of climate change beyond our borders are expected to increasingly affect our trade and economy,

including import and export prices and U.S. businesses with overseas operations and supply chains.

With continued growth in emissions at historic rates,

annual losses in some economic sectors are projected to reach hundreds of billions of dollars by the end of the century —

more than the current gross domestic product (GDP) of many U.S. states.”

https://www.politicususa.com/2019/05/04/a-little-look-behind-the-numbers-shows-trumps-economy-inflicts-pain-on-most-americans.html (https://www.politicususa.com/2019/05/04/a-little-look-behind-the-numbers-shows-trumps-economy-inflicts-pain-on-most-americans.html)

Of course, blaming American-the-Fucked only on Trash is simplified for American simpletons.

Trash alone is clearly a blackhole of evil, incompetence, criminality, fraud, racism,

but he was handed a bunch destructive, compromised kakistocrats from the

Capitalists / oligarchy / Repugs for his Exec where the real, mortal damage is being done to the Federal govt.

Signs Grow That Voters Want To Rid The Country Of Trump

Voters are uncomfortable with the idea of four more years of Trump

NBC News reported, (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/hung-jury-public-remains-divided-over-mueller-probe-new-nbc-n1001886)

“The NBC/WSJ poll shows a combined 41 percent :lol

of all registered voters saying they’re either enthusiastic or comfortable :lol

when it comes to Trump and his re-election, :lol goddam stupid, ignorant, hate-filled motherfuckers

while a combined 59 percent say they have some reservations (10 percent) or are very uncomfortable (49 percent).

The issue in 2020 is healthcare

More bad news came for Trump on the issues. Healthcare is the top concern of voters (24%).

Despite Trump’s relentless hammering of immigration and the border,

just 18% of voters list it as their top issue, and

14% are concerned about jobs and the economy.

Trump isn’t going to win an election centered on healthcare.

The border fearmongering isn’t working with the broader electorate,

as signs suggest that most voters want to be rid of Trump.

Let's review:

Fiction: Overhauled the VA
Reality: Started a restructuring plan. So did a number of previous administrations (https://www.cnn.com/2014/11/10/politics/va-reforms-and-restructuring/index.html). As usual, these things are all talk until you can actually see any tangible benefits.

Verdict: "all talk and no action"

Fiction: Ended the Korean War
Reality: Kim playing Trump for a fiddle, back to testing rocket launchers (https://www.foxnews.com/world/north-koreas-kim-jong-un-oversees-testing-of-multiple-rocket-launchers-tells-troops-to-keep-high-alert-posture):

Verdict: "all talk and no action"

Fiction: Incredibly strong economy with record numbers
Reality: Strong economy, "record numbers" is vague. Certainly some noteworthy numbers, and overall, except for tariffs, haven't wrecked the growth he inherited.

Verdict: Mostly true.

Fiction: Pulled out of Syria
Reality: White House keeps increasing the amount of troops that will remain in Syria (https://www.npr.org/2019/02/22/696928907/u-s-will-leave-200-peacekeeping-troops-in-syria) "indefinitely" as a "peacekeeping force".

Verdict: "all talk and no action"

Fiction: America is producing it's own oil
Reality: The shale oil boom started way before this administration (https://www.foxnews.com/us/gulf-coast-set-for-bakken-like-boom-with-liquefied-natural-gas), and has been only slowed down by oil prices.

Verdict: "all talk and no action"

Fiction: Revitalize the coal and steel industry
Reality: Coal production continues it's decline (https://www.forbes.com/sites/gauravsharma/2019/04/14/trump-vowed-to-save-coal-but-u-s-largest-mining-basin-sees-decline/). Not funnily enough, the steel tariffs get in the way (https://www.foxbusiness.com/energy/trump-steel-tariffs-shale-revolution-oil) of increased oil production, while mostly hurting americans.

Verdict: "all talk and no action"

Pelosi: Trump is becoming 'self-impeachable'

“He’s becoming self-impeachable in terms of some of the things he’s doing,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) said during a live interview with The Washington Post.

The speaker has consistently sought to tamp down talk among the Democratic Caucus of impeaching the president,

warning that the divisive process should not be taken lightly.

On Tuesday and again on Wednesday, she said it was

possible that Trump was looking to play on that division, “goading” Democratic lawmakers into initiating impeachment proceedings.
“Every single day, whether it’s obstruction, obstruction, obstruction, obstruction of having people come to the table with facts or ignoring subpoenas.

Every single day, the president is making a case,”

The Author of a New Book About Andrew Johnson on the Right Reasons to Impeach a President

the impeachment of Johnson has traditionally been seen as an overreach by Congress,

with Republican lawmakers privileging partisan considerations over the separation of powers.

Wineapple thinks that this argument overlooks

House members’ real, stated reasons for impeaching Johnson:

that his opposition to basic tenets of Reconstruction,

including the enfranchisement of former slaves, and

his contempt for Congress,

rendered him unfit to be President.

NY state Senate passes bill allowing Congress to get Trump tax returns

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, has pledged to sign the legislation, which covers the president's state filings, if it reaches his desk.

The bill would amend state law to permit the state Department of Taxation and Finance commissioner

to release any state tax return requested by the leaders of the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee or the Joint Committee on Taxation for any "specific and legitimate legislative purpose."

Existing laws generally prohibit such a release.

The bill would only apply to Trump's state returns

and not the federal ones currently at the center of a battle between the House and the Treasury Department.

But those returns would provide a trove of information as New York serves as the headquarters of the president's business and which has served as his home.

the tax filings are likely to contain much of the same information congressional lawmakers are seeking from his federal returns.

"The state return should generally match the federal return and

obtaining it from New York State will enable us in Congress to perform our oversight function and maintain the rule of law,"

The Crowd Started Leaving Halfway Through Trump’s Florida Rally

The New York Times reported: (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/08/us/politics/trump-panama-city-beach-rally.html)

The president cycled through a familiar list of rally topics, like a border wall with Mexico and the support of Democrats for late-term abortions.

But it was a discursive performance, even by Mr. Trump’s standards, and the mood was notably less electric than at some of his other rallies.

The crowd began straggling out during the latter half of the speech, to the sound of helicopter engines being warmed up in a nearby field.
Mr. Trump twice complained about the stage — where he stood under a giant banner that read “Make America Great Again” —

saying that the floor was so slippery that he wondered if it had been set up by the Democrats.

The White House revoked my press pass. It’s not just me — it’s curtailing access for all journalists.

I was part of a

mass purge of “hard pass” holders

after the White House implemented a

new standard that designated as unqualified almost the entire White House press corps,

including all seven of The Post’s White House correspondents. White House officials then chose which journalists would be granted “exceptions.”

The move is perfectly in line with

Trump’s banning of certain news organizations, including The Post, from his campaign events and his threats (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2018/11/09/donald-trump-threatens-other-reporters-white-house-press-passes/1942013002/) to revoke White House credentials of journalists he doesn’t like.

Trump’s elimination of briefings and other changes have devalued White House coverage anyway. But there’s

something wrong with a president having the power to decide which journalists can cover him.

Now, virtually the entire White House press corps is credentialed under “exceptions,”

which means, in a sense, that they all serve at the pleasure of press secretary Sarah Sanders because they all fail to meet credentialing requirements — and therefore, in theory,

can have their credentials revoked any time they annoy Trump or his aides,

the victims hurt most were freelance camera operators and technicians who now could lose their livelihood.

More important is that the White House is drastically curtailing access for all journalists.

Briefings have been abolished in favor of unscheduled “gaggles” ( on the record, but impromptu and haphazard) in the White House driveway. The Pentagon and State Department have done similarly.

The White House has also restricted access by allowing only one journalist from a news organization at most events, and

by admitting journalists to events only if they register days in advance.

This has sharply reduced journalists’ attendance at the White House — just in time for the 90-day attendance purge.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-white-house-has-revoked-my-press-pass-its-not-just-me--its-curtailing-access-for-all-journalists/2019/05/08/bb9794b4-71c0-11e9-8be0-ca575670e91c_story.html?utm_term=.64dd397cdaa6&wpisrc=nl_most&wpmm=1 (https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-white-house-has-revoked-my-press-pass-its-not-just-me--its-curtailing-access-for-all-journalists/2019/05/08/bb9794b4-71c0-11e9-8be0-ca575670e91c_story.html?utm_term=.64dd397cdaa6&wpisrc=nl_most&wpmm=1)

Trump Tells The Boston Red Sox That

Lincoln Lost The Civil War

Trump

"is a pretty good raconteur of history and he did say that, uh—

he was talking about Abraham Lincoln losing the war and said

‘Well, I know you guys have lost a game or two, but this was a war.’”

Questions about Trump’s mental state grow

Trump did call himself a student of history, (https://www.politicususa.com/2019/04/26/try-not-to-laugh-as-trump-calls-himself-a-student-of-history.html) but what is uncertain is what kind of history Trump is studying.

Donald Trump invents history just like he created his own mythology and business success.

Lincoln did not lose the Civil War. Lincoln didn’t lose any war. Lincoln didn’t lose the Spanish-American War, The War of 1812, or World War II.

Accounts like these if true, raise concerns that

Trump is not mentally lucid.

In fact, rural areas are the only parts of the country (https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/trump-is-really-popular-in-rural-areas-other-places-not-so-much/) in which Trump has a net positive approval rating.

But they’re also the biggest losers under his policies.

In practice almost all of his economic agenda has been G.O.P. standard:

big tax cuts for corporations and the rich

while hacking away at the social safety net.

The one big break from orthodoxy has been his protectionism, his eagerness to start trade wars.

And all of these policies disproportionately hurt farm country.

The Trump tax cut largely passes farmers by, because they aren’t corporations and few of them are rich.

poor farmers actually saw a slight tax increase.

the assault on the safety net is especially harmful to rural America, which relies heavily on safety-net programs.

Of the 100 counties with the highest percentage of their population receiving food stamps, 85 are rural (https://www.dailyyonder.com/geography-food-stamps/2018/12/31/25422/),

The expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, which Trump keeps trying to kill, had its biggest positive impact on rural areas (https://ccf.georgetown.edu/2018/09/25/health-insurance-coverage-in-small-towns-and-rural-america-the-role-of-medicaid-expansion/#heading-5).

Safety-net programs bring purchasing power, which helps create rural jobs.

Medicaid is also a key factor keeping rural hospitals alive;

without it, access to health care would be severely curtailed (https://www.aafp.org/news/blogs/freshperspectives/entry/20190109fp-ruralhospitals.html) for rural Americans in general.

Trump’s recent rage-tweeting over trade, which raised the prospect of an expanded trade war, sent grain markets to a 42-year low (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-05-06/grains-soy-trump-tariff-threat-to-china-drives-ag-prices-lower).

Why, then, do rural areas support Trump?

rural voters are far more hostile to immigrants (https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/in-rural-america-fewer-immigrants-and-less-tolerance/2017/06/16/7b448454-4d1d-11e7-bc1b-fddbd8359dee_story.html?utm_term=.5927b3084122)

Rural voters also feel disrespected by coastal elites

support for Trump might nonetheless start to crack if rural voters realized how much they are being hurt by his policies.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/09/opinion/trump-rural-america.html?partner=rss&emc=rss (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/09/opinion/trump-rural-america.html?partner=rss&emc=rss)

Trump Humiliated And Denied Address To UK Parliament

In a major snub to the US President, lingering hopes of him delivering a speech to MPs and peers have been dashed following defiant opposition by Commons Speaker John Bercow, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and others.

Although Barack Obama made a landmark address in Westminster Hall in 2011,

Trump will not be allowed the same privilege after the visit’s organisers decided to avoid a diplomatic row over his “racism and sexism”.

Too hard for you?’:

Internet ridicules Trump ‘family values’

for not wishing his wife or daughter Happy Mother’s Day

President Donald Trump didn’t say a word about Mother’s Day,

despite having been married to three mothers of his five children.

The president tweeted a brief meme with photos of flowers saying “Happy Mother’s Day,” :lol

but neglected to say anything to his daughter, a mother, and his current wife, who is also the mother of his child.

It prompted many online to wonder if he was too focused on himself to observe the holiday celebrating mothers.

So much noise, pure BULL SHIT and LIES from a sick so-called man

Ignoring Trump’s Orders, Hoping He’ll Forget

Slow-walking or flat-out disobeying Trump’s fleeting obsessions has become common practice across various sectors of government.

Even if Trump fixates on an entirely different issue the next day—

perhaps something gleaned from that morning’s episode of Fox & Friends or

the previous night’s Hannity—

multiple officials across the federal government are still left to allocate resources and finagle some sort of response.

(He is the president, after all.) :lol

Sometimes that means containing the fallout of Trump’s hastiness by walking back a decision, but doing so in an obsequious manner.

Trump’s prized Doral resort is in steep decline, according to company documents, showing his business problems are mounting

Late last year, in a Miami conference room, a consultant for President Trump’s company said business at

his prized 643-room Doral resort was in sharp decline.

At Doral, which Trump has listed in federal disclosures as his biggest moneymaker hotel, room rates, banquets, golf and overall revenue were all down since 2015.

In two years, the resort’s net operating income — a key figure, representing the amount left over after expenses are paid — had fallen by 69 percent.

Even in a vigorous economy, the property was missing the Trump Organization’s internal business targets; for instance,

the club expected to take in $85 million in revenue in 2017 but took in just $75 million.

“They are severely underperforming”

The troubles at Trump Doral — detailed here for the first time, based on documents and video obtained under Florida’s public-records law —

suggest the Trump Organization’s problems are bigger than previously known.

This is also the first known case in which

a Trump Organization representative has publicly acknowledged the president’s name has hurt business.

NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE IN TRUMP’S DECREPIT, TAINTED TOWER

“The name on the building became a problem. . . . No one wants in that building.”

https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/5a1f29a4c5b1423f50694702/master/w_1920,c_limit/trump-tower-holiday-2018-01.jpg

When Donald Trump first opened Trump Tower, the centerpiece of his property empire, he was able to convince everyone from Steven Spielberg to Johnny Carson to Sophia Loren to pay top dollar to live in the place, with units selling for as much as $15 million (https://books.google.com/books?id=fcKlDAAAQBAJ&pg=PA319&lpg=PA319#v=onepage&q&f=false).

Now, thanks to a name that’s synonymous with “racist (https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/01/trump-is-the-least-racist-person-ever-insists-shortest-tenured-employee) blowhard (https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/01/wall-street-unconcerned-by-the-possibility-of-nuclear-war) of debatable mental stability (https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2019/05/trump-60-tweet-tirade-firefighters-biden) and questionable moral conduct (https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/12/how-trumps-accusers-could-make-him-pay-for-roy-moore),” not to mention a lack of updates in recent years,

people can’t get away from the building fast enough.

Bloomberg reports (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-05-14/trump-tower-is-now-one-of-nyc-s-least-desirable-luxury-buildings) that since Trump was elected, at least 13 condos in the tower have been sold.

Among the nine for which property records show the original purchase price,

eight were unloaded at an inflation-adjusted loss,

with several selling at a discount of more than 20 percent.

(By contrast, just 0.23 percent of homes sold in Manhattan during the same period booked a loss.)

“it’s rare that someone owns an apartment here for 10 years and takes a loss.”

clients have repeatedly and insistently told him not to show them units in any of Trump’s buildings.

“It’s a bloodbath, basically.

It’s a financial bloodbath. . . .

Nobody wants to go there.

If you’ve got a Marriott and a Hyatt and a Trump, you’re not going to Trump.”

it’s not just the residential part of Trump Tower that’s taken a hit:

The commercial portion of the building has been struggling for months

to find tenants for more than 42,000 square feet of vacant office space, despite advertising rents well below the area’s average, listings and data from real-estate brokers show. . . .

“If I were looking for office space, that would be a building I’d want to avoid,” said Edward Son, until recently a market analyst for CoStar Group, Inc.

The office portion of Trump Tower is advertising five vacancies spread across five floors.

In January, prices for the open space ranged from $72 to $85 per square foot annually.

A month earlier, the Trump Organization posted to its YouTube channel a glossy marketing video that referred to the tower as “one of New York’s most iconic trophy buildings.”

Now the prices are listed as negotiable.

A commercial real-estate broker said that his firm’s surveys show that

prospective tenants won’t consider a Trump building until he’s out of office.

One of the building’s other problems is that

Trump hasn’t spent much money updating the tower in recent years,

Fits the Repug strategy of fucking up govt into dysfunctionality

White House Suffering ‘Unprecedented’ Job Vacancies Under Trump

the heavy volume of vacancies in the U.S. federal government is the subject of a report by Dareh Gregorian for NBC News.

Gregorian reports that presently, there are

“138 nominees awaiting confirmation (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-revolving-door-creates-unprecedented-vacancy-mess-gov-t-n1004566) by the Senate” and

“132 positions that have no nominee at all.”

“what we have seen is unprecedented, with consistent vacancies across the government.”

There has been so much turnover in the Trump Administration, according to Stier, that the confirmation process in the Senate is being overwhelmed.

“The system is on overload,” Stier told NBC News. “You have too many people trying to get jammed through the Senate.”

Trump Reportedly Relying On Twitter Likes and Retweets to Make Sensitive Policy Decisions

A recently published profile on White House social media director Dan Scavino suggests that President Donald Trump frequently uses his Twitter engagement numbers to defend his controversial, sensitive policy decisions.

Politico’s piece (https://www.politico.com/story/2019/05/16/trump-scavino-1327921) on Scavino portrays him as the ultimate White House insider: a member of Trump’s inner circle since the start of the 2016 election who serves as the gatekeeper for the president’s Twitter feed.

Scavino’s positive reinforcement of Trump has allowed him to remain one of the president’s closest confidants, and in a comment to Politico about Scavino’s social media role, Trump says

“Oftentimes, I’ll go through Dan, I’ll talk it over. He can really be a very good sounding board. A lot of common sense. He’s got a good grasp.”

a meeting where Trump called Scavino in to tell lawmakers about the positive reactions he got on Twitter after announcing his plan to pull U.S. troops out of Syria.

the lawmakers were surprised as Scavino defended the move by pointing to the likes and retweets Trump received after the announcement.

The profile goes on to suggest that Scavino has used the same strategy since then to boost some of Trump’s other controversial policy choices.
