Not a spur but I was always a fan of that guy. Not many junkyard dogs like that anymore who are just willing to throw themselves in the paint and get rebounds and block/alter shots without asking for the ball on offense. The Dedmon guy on the Spurs today kind of reminds me of him honestly.

I differ in opinion. Ive always thought Charles Oakley is tremendously overrated.

Oak would not be able to adapt his style in today's game. He's a limited offensive player with a penchant for dumb fouls and roughing up players. In today's NBA he'd be a poor man version of Udonis Haslem.

Again, a junkyard dog similar to a Kurt Thomas. Yes his offensive game was limited but he was an elite defender white Udonis Haslem is a JAG and not a terribly good defender.

I think there are plenty of big men in the 90's who did a far better than what Oak was known for. Otis Thorpe, Michael Cage and Tyrone Hill. None got the same attention as Oak simply because they didnt play under the bright lights of NY.

There would be no "punking" if he just acted like a grown ass mature man. Hes 6'8 fucking inches. He's ain't gangsta, he's just bigger than your average security guard. Yeah, real gangsta punking people half his size. And this dude cheered LeBron criticizing Barkleys of court antics.

There's nothing "gangsta" about this. He was unreasonable and thought he's literally untouchable in the building. There are far more effective ways to be heard so bullying your way and then getting thrown out to prison isn't one of them.

People like Stephen A Smith talk about how Oakley was a player, how people respected him, as if somehow that means anything in this situation. Any other fan gets beaten down once away from the cameras if they pull that overbearing shit. Excusing it because he played basketball is just creating and endorsing a separate class of citizen that gets preferential treatment by the law, and hasn't Smith bitched about that all his career anyhow?

It seems like Steve Kerr is the only one that has adapted, and he credits it to his time as an analyst in the late 2000s, along with Mike D'Antoni...

Disagree about Bird. Put together a very good team in Indy before he was phucked over by disloyal modern NBA punk Ron Artest. Well, other mistake was allowing Veggie Miller to be the team leader.

West just had to offer Shaq a rap career and a bunch of bananas and ride the refs to titles. Nothing special there. But I agree he was better then the others.

The patience & accommodation they showed Oak should be shown to all Americans in and at times of tumult. Instead they take vengeance on "average Americans" so that when a VIP, especially a black one is on the docket extreme allowance is permitted. They have that (allowance) saved up and it's easy to reach for it and extend it. They'd a wiped the floor with an "average American" especially a white one. They'd a made an example out of that person.

It is true for pretty much every era. Joe Dumars and Larry Bird actually once put up decent teams. Pat Riley still put in a great team. Carlisle played in the 80s, Kerr played in the 80s to the 00s, not entirely sure what your point is.

No question Oakley was a goon though, he was just crazy and is a little off kilter, insane in the membrane if you will.

He slapped Barkley and Barkley didn't even talk back, he slapped Tyrone Hill over money, he fouled Shaq hard and Shaq went after Brad Miller, he got Carter in gear and made him had a career year, Oakley is most definitely insane to some degree.

I agree he wouldn't survive in this league of wussed out players, where you get technicals for looking at the ref wrong, Oakley would be thrown out of the game and suspended to protect those porcelain superstars so that they can do 25 needless cross overs and a step back three, then chew their mouthguards to show the world that they're real.

There aren't many Black men in the entire sports world that could get arrested/handcuffed and brought down by security at a basketball game after poking a much smaller, middle-aged white man in the head, yet have virtually all fans and media on their side, tbh:lol

The list is very short..Charles Oakley, Dad Killer, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Kobe pre-rape, Tiger pre-divorce, OJ pre-murder, maybe Grant Hill, Tom Rivers, Steph Curry(due to his appearance), Magic, probably a couple of MLB players I can't think of off the top:lol it's a very short list..

90s basketball fans were probably the same people who back in the 90s attended religious scam shows and bought tv infomercials such as real estate fraud, tarot cards(call me now for your free reading) and selling tiny classified ads to newspapers.

So Oak tried to talk shit to the Owner? Man If I was the owner I would have sent my goons to beat the living shit out of OAK in the backroom. That nigga too big to fuck with one on one but they should have took him out back and beat the shit out of him just like the Aria hotel in Vegas did to his ass...he started talking shit and they took him to secured area of the Casino and beat the shit outta his ass....LOL

Former New York Knick (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/New+York+Knicks) and NBA (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/National+Basketball+Association) bad boy Charles Oakley (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Charles+Oakley) sued a Las Vegas (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Las+Vegas) resort after he claims he was attacked in a "gang-style beat down" by security guards in May 2010.

Attorneys for the 47-year-old former Knick filed suit against the Aria hotel-casino at MGM Resorts International (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/MGM+Resorts+International)'s CityCenter (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/CityCenter) Complex last week, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

(http://www.vegasinc.com/news/2011/may/13/nbas-charles-oakley-sues-aria-security-officers-ov/)The lawsuit claims that the Charlotte Bobcats (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Charlotte+Bobcats) assistant coach was an invited guest at the resort's VIP pool area after having participated in Michael Jordan (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Michael+Jordan)'s Celebrity Invitational golf fundraiser.

The trouble began when he left the area and then was refused re-entry by the resort's security staff.

After arguing with the security staff, Oakley alleged he attempted to go back to his room - which is when, he claimed, he was attacked by security guards in a secluded area of the resort, tackled and beaten. The suit contends he was so severely beaten he had to be taken to the hospital. Nicole Tucker (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Nicole+Tucker), an executive casino host at Caesar's Palace (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Caesars+Entertainment+Inc.) tweeted out pictures that seem to support that claim, with Oakley pictured wearing a brace on his arm. :lol

Dolan, speaking during The Michael Kay Show on ESPN New York 98.7 FM, said the policy regarding Oakley wasn't necessarily a lifetime ban but that the Knicks needed to keep the Garden "a place that's comfortable and safe."
