Constituents angry after Ohio Republican raves about 'great town hall' he forgot to tell them about (http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/2/10/1632324/-Constituents-angry-after-OH-Rep-Renacci-raves-about-great-town-hall-he-forget-to-tell-them-about)

Because unlike all the other districts in the United States,

Jim Renacci’s constituents aren’t focused on the effects of repealing the Affordable Care Act.

Or the unconstitutional Muslim travel ban.

Or the dangerously unqualified Trump administration and

Donald Trump’s infinite conflicts of interest and pathway to corruption.

Rep. Renacci’s constituents are intensely focused on tax reform!

Topic aside, constituents angrily responded to the photo because the event was never on his calendar, did not appear open to the public and there was no notification of the event. They let him know they were NOT happy (https://www.facebook.com/JimRenacci/photos/a.307728585922.192446.217695830922/10154784304700923/?type=3&theater).

I called and asked about when you were having a town hall and was told none were scheduled. Christine in your office said this was NOT a town hall, but was a campaign event. When will you be having an actual town hall open to the public? The website does not list any upcoming.

Your constituents don't care about "tax reform", James. Why don't you announce your meetings in advance? Why don't you address things that really concern people?

You can hardly call it a town hall if you don't invite the public.

Why wasn't this open to the public? Nothing listed on your website... Remember, you do work for us: the voters!

A tipster tells us she called his office and they are now singing a different tune, telling the caller (a constituent of Rep. Renacci) that the event has a “private campaign event” for the congressman in his district. A campaign event for an election 634 days a way?

A better way to get re-elected would be to hold a real town hall, the one his constituents have asked for time and time and time again and start advancing legislations and policies that will help them, not harm them.

Confronted with talking to constituents about health care, these GOP lawmakers chose to hide

On Tuesday, a small group of constituents went to Sen. Tom Cotton’s (R) office in Arkansas to try to meet with staff?—?and were met with a locked door and a staffer speaking through an intercom, saying that the senator’s staff wouldn’t be taking any meetings with constituents.

“They’ve turned off their telephones,” Sarah Scanlon, one of the constituents and the former national LGBTQ outreach director for Bernie Sanders’ campaign, told the Arkansas Times. “They’ve locked their doors, they’re not letting you in.”

In a video posted to YouTube, the unidentified staffer tells Scanlon that the staff have been instructed by the D.C. office not to meet with any constituents because of “recent threats.”

Also on Wednesday, Rep. Peter Roskam’s (R-IL) office canceled a meeting with constituents about Obamacare after a staffer learned a reporter was present.

“I am flabbergasted that Peter Roskam and his staff would turn us away,” Sandra Alexander, who organized the meeting, said. “They didn’t have the courtesy to listen to us. We are a peaceful group.”

Alexander and a group of about 16 constituents showed up for a pre-scheduled meeting to express their concerns about the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, according to the Aurora Beacon-News.

But they were reportedly chastised by the office for bringing too many people and inviting the press. When Alexander told the staffer that the reporter didn’t have to attend, the staffer walked away without rescheduling the meeting.

Over the weekend, Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA) also tried to avoid her constituents.

Comstock’s office invited people in her district to “mobile office hours” at two local grocery stores, saying on the invitation that she’d be there to answer questions about “issues important to you.”

Dozens of constituents went to the stores to ask Comstock about the GOP’s Obamacare replacement plan and Trump’s recent immigration order. But Comstock never showed.

Angry constituents complained on Facebook about Comstock’s failure to show up, though they also indicated she sent a staffer in her place. A member of Comstock’s staff told Politico that the invitation should never have said that Comstock herself would attend.

Another Virginia representative, Dave Brat, is getting confronted by constituents wherever he goes. He told a meeting of conservative groups over the weekend, “Since Obamacare and these issues have come up, the women are in my grill no matter where I go.”

But if a lobbyist showed up with $10K check, the politicians would pucker up and start sucking.

Republican congressman preemptively cancels April town hall event to avoid constituents (http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/2/9/1631981/-Republican-congressman-preemptively-cancels-April-town-hall-event-to-avoid-constituents)

“You can’t complain if you’re not willing to fight for change.” — Rep. Lee Zeldin (NY-01)

Those are the words of Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin in his featured campaign ad of the 2016 election season. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWIGPEn_dpM) But, it appears Rep. Zeldin feels differently now that he finds himself under scrutiny from angry constituents who’ve been trying to meet with him.

In fact, he’s so unwilling to meet with the people of his district who are “fighting for change” that he has preemptively cancelled a constituent town hall event in April!

From the "I shit you not" files: (http://www.27east.com/news/article.cfm/General-Interest-Southampton/509316/US-Representative-Lee-Zeldin-Cancels-Southampton-Village-Event-After-Rally-In-East-Patchogue)

U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin, who was reelected to represent the 1st Congressional District in November, has canceled an upcoming event for constituents at the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton Village following reports that local organizations planned to hold a protest rally at the event.

According to Mr. Zeldin’s communications director, Jennifer DiSiena, the April 18 event was canceled due to concerns about anticipated harassment by groups that had rallied at a recent event in East Patchogue, where Mr. Zeldin was honored as Man of the Year by the Rotary Club of Shirley and the Mastics.

Regarding the upcoming library event in Southampton Village in April, Ms. DiSiena said in an email last Thursday, February 2, “This meeting was co-opted, renamed and re-branded by a group of liberal activists who were already holding strategy meetings to turn it into a disruptive show for their own political theater.”

Republicans Refuse To Meet With Their Constituents As Obamacare Repeal Backlash Grows

Congressional Republicans are avoiding open public meetings with constituents because they are fearful of the growing backlash towards repealing Obamacare.

The Washington Post reported: (https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/republicans-look-to-avoid-youtube-moments-in-fight-over-obamacare-repeal/2017/01/18/22bb2048-dd12-11e6-ad42-f3375f271c9c_story.html?postshare=5501484829937601&tid=ss_tw&utm_term=.01cda8f2759b)

Seven years after unruly Democratic town halls helped stoke public outrage over the Affordable Care Act, Republicans now appear keen to avoid the kind of dust-ups capable of racking up millions of views on YouTube and ending up in a 2018 campaign commercial. Only a handful of GOP lawmakers have held or are planning to host in-person town hall meetings open to all comers

— the sort of large-scale events that helped feed the original Obamacare backlash in the summer of 2009.….Instead, lawmakers are increasingly turning to more controlled forums like telephone town halls, as well as Facebook Q&As and smaller, unpublicized personal meetings that cannot so easily be filmed

Congressional Republicans are refusing to be held accountable for the actions that they are taking. The Republicans are hoping that if they avoid public meetings with their own constituents, no one will notice that they have lost their health insurance.

Rep. Chaffetz says some of the overflow crowd in Utah were 'paid protesters' from out of state (http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/2/11/1632598/-Rep-Chaffetz-says-some-of-the-overflow-crowd-in-Utah-were-paid-protesters-from-out-of-state)

These guys have yet to get a clue! Rep. Jason Chaffetz came home to Utah and faced a full capacity crowd for his town hall, bolting almost an hour early to chants of "Your last term!" (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/02/10/1632123/-Utah-congressman-bolts-an-hour-early-from-constituent-town-hall-amid-Your-last-term-chants)

Rather than reconcile the obvious anger from his constituents and rethink his support of Donald Trump and Paul Ryan’s destructive agenda, he’s blaming “paid protesters.” From the Deseret News: (http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865673092/Chaffetz-Raucous-reaction-at-town-hall-meeting-bullying-and-intimidation.html)

Chaffetz said the crowd that filled the auditorium at Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights and spilled over into a protest outside included people brought in from other states to disrupt the meeting.

"Absolutely. I know there were," he said, suggesting it was "more of a paid attempt to bully and intimidate" than a reflection of the feelings of his 3rd District constituents.

Asked who would foot the bill to fill the audience with outside agitators, Chaffetz said, "do some reporting" and described how one participant made it a point to say he was not being paid by a national Democratic organization.

Town hall erupts in jeers after GOP official lies about ACA ‘death panels’

Constituents weren’t having it.

Politifact’s 2009 “Lie of the Year” was brought back from the dead during a Saturday town hall hosted by Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) — and the mostly pro-ACA crowd wasn’t having any of it.

Bill Akins — chair of Pasco County, Florida’s Republican Party — told the roughly 250 people in attendance that his problem with the Affordable Care Act is that “there is a provision in there that anyone over the age of 74 has to go before what is effectively a death panel.”

As soon as the words “death panel” left Akins’ mouth, the crowd erupted in boos, jeers, and chants of “liar, liar.”

“It’s in there folks. You’re wrong!” Akins replied, falsely, as Bilirakis tried to restore order. Akins then calls the angry crowd “children.”

Bilirakis held a town hall on the Affordable Care Act last weekend, too. At that event, like the one on Saturday, he was confronted by a crowd mostly opposed to repealing the ACA.

Sen. McConnell fled KY tarmac in an SUV to avoid constituents, but found them outside his home too (http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/2/11/1632708/-Sen-McConnell-fled-KY-tarmac-in-an-SUV-to-avoid-protesters-but-found-they-were-at-his-home-too)

http://images.dailykos.com/images/364978/large/mitch3_copy.jpg?1486850403Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell couldn’t make it a few hundred yards from his airport terminal to a waiting SUV limo at baggage claim without running into angry constituents.

Rather than take a few minutes to talk with this handful of women, he took a more cowardly route—jumping into an SUV limo on the tarmac and speeding away.

Watch as Rep. John Yarmuth was greeted with applause and smiles as a cowardly Senator Mitch McConnell scampered away like a thief in the night.

After he blew off constituents at the airport, they took the extra step of

heading to his house to read Coretta Scott King’s letter via bullhorn. :lol

All of this even though they’d been warned. They got an explanation. Nevertheless, they persisted.
