As does Walter Tavares...
That said, I like that the two Latvians in the league play with balls.

This is the guy I want Spurs to draft at 29. Very athletic for his size, is a great PnR finisher inside as he keeps the ball high and finishes strong. Fast and quick for a big man, can run the floor and has lateral quickness to defend switches. I like this kid more than Milutinov.
Him or Jordan Bell from Oregon.

Not sure he is better right now then Milutinov will be next season I think this kid is a draft and stash for two or three years. But yeah I would pick him if he is available.

Anzejs Pasecniks
C, Gran Canaria
Draft status: Automatically eligible
The San Antonio Spurs have seemingly made a seamless transition into the Kawhi Leonard era, but the collection of big men that they have relied upon this season could use an upgrade. 21-year old Anzejs Pasecniks could help either as a draft-and-stash option or as someone who could come over to reinforce the ranks next season. The 7-foot-2 center is averaging 7.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game across all competitions for Gran Canaria in 2016-17.
Pasecniks isn’t a floor-spacing big man, but he otherwise fits the modern game well. He is a terrific pick-and-roll diver who operates well in space, has nice footwork and finishes consistently at the rim. That skill set will play well in a league that relies so heavily on the pick-and-roll. Pasecniks also has some offensive upside. He’s made 8-of-17 3-pointers this season and might eventually be able to expand his game out to become a reasonable 3-point threat.
Defensively, his fluidity and athleticism gives him the ability to stay in front of some smaller players, opening up options for a head coach in pick-and-roll defense. His rim protection for a 7-foot-2 center is not elite, but he does have a 4.9 percent block rate and should provide at least some resistance at the rim.

29. San Antonio Spurs: C Anzejs Pasecniks, Latvia
The Spurs have a tendency to do two things with their annual late first-rounder: take the guy everyone was stunned to see slip to them or go with a foreign player. Pasecniks is a 7-2 giant who has been hyped in certain NBA circles for years, in part because he’s older than a lot of the top European prospects.

Oh, look, another international afterthought who will probably become productive in San Antonio. He can move well for a player his size and can get to the hoop without a problem. He is also likely to be Pau Gasol’s replacement.

Anzejs Pasecniks
C, Gran Canaria
I’m not sure anymore if the Spurs just know which foreign guys are going to become really good or if those foreign guys become good as soon as the plane touches down in San Antonio. Regardless, I have high hopes for Anzejs Pasecniks.
Pasecniks runs to the rim with all the force that his 7-foot-2 frame contains. He can move well on defense, but he has a ways to go toward understanding what’s happening in front of him. Pop should help with that.
On offense, it’s unclear how far out he’ll be able to stretch his game, but with everything else that he brings, a 3-point shot would be pretty gravy.

Someone will fall in love with him bc of Porzingus and Bertans

Dang this dude looks impressive. If we go the draft and stash route to go after Paul, I'd take him. Has more upside than Milutinov. Pick and pop or pick in roll is very valuable and the mobility and length, could be a two way player. Also development with the national team every summer... huge value here

No. 29 San Antonio Spurs- Anzejs Pasecniks (Latvia, 1995, Center)
This Tweet. or the first round Pop!
Pasecniks is 7-foot-2 with an impressive range and moves extremely well for his size. He likely doesn’t come over to the NBA right away, but he could turn into another overseas gem for the Spurs in the future.
His defense and rebounding need work, but he’d come in protect the rim and give the Spurs minutes off the bench if given the opportunity. He’s a solid scorer that could make a living in the NBA.

29. San Antonio Spurs – Anzejs Pasecniks (C, Latvia)
This would be an extremely Spurs pick and there isn’t an American player I love in this spot given the way the draft has moved. Pasecniks is a bit older than your typical European draft pick (he’ll be 22 in December), but he’s polished and athletically impressive. He’ll need to get stronger but it isn’t as if the Spurs have their center of the future on the current roster and I’d rather have Pasecniks than Bam Adebayo or Tony Bradley.

29. San Antonio — Anzejs Pasecniks, C, Latvia. Paceniks might not last this long, but if he’s available, the Spurs, who worked him out last week, figure to pick him. He’s 7-2 and will need some work, but the Spurs can be patient here and possibly leave him in Europe for a season. San Antonio has immediate questions at center, but Paceniks would be a potential long-term answer.

29.SaAnzejs Pasecniks 7’2” Center Latvia 21/229
End of the first round picks are always a bit of a crap shoot. The Spurs always find gems in the draft including very good international scouting. A player like Anzejs is not perfect but has shown signs of being able to contribute. At 7’2” is able to block shots pretty effectively but has a lot of work to do overall defensively as he does not seem to have a high IQ on that end of the floor. Offensively he is very good at basket cuts as well as sealing off the defender to have an easier look at the rim. Could be a good project type player at the end of the first to take a chance on for a team.
Another throw in in a potential Philly deal
