View Full Version : Clippers Glen Davis calls Doc Rivers overrated

JohnnyMax

"Because what Doc had in '08 was special," Davis said on the podcast. "And he was lucky as hell. Lucky as hell. The year before that they were wearing trash bags (in the crowd). ... But then the next year they win it, now he's one of the best coaches ever? I'm just not feeling that, you know what I mean? You give credit to KG. You give credit to Paul Pierce. You give credit to Ray Allen. Those are the guys that made sure whatever Doc needed to be done got done. And so now it's easy for Doc to do his job.

"And then you give credit to Danny Ainge. That's the one you give credit to because I know multiple times he had to talk to Doc just to say, 'Hey Doc, leave them alone. Hey Doc, ease up. Like, there's points where you ease up.' I would play good games and Doc wouldn't even give me like, hey. I'd play great games and he'd be: 'Go do it again.' You know? You want to hear that, 'Hey, great job kid. Good job, man. Keep it up.' But not, 'Go do it again.' So I'm off that Doc tip man."

Asked if Rivers is overrated as a coach, Davis replied, "I think so. Yeah."

If I were even 6'1" or 6'2" I'd be in the NBA right now, no lie. I could shoot the lights out of the ball as a pre-teen and teenager. I was also a heck of a passer including the no-look, behind the back, special angle pass, etc. I could make the craziest looking reverse layups, hook shots, behind the backboard shots, floaters etc. I always found the right guy open. But, I didn't make varsity in HS because I was simply overwhelmed when trying to take it to the hole and the sheer quickness and agility of the black players combined with their tremendous height on me made life impossible, even as a point guard.

Hell, at 5'8" 130, I'm very lucky to have a wife, much less a 5'10" wife, much less a wife who is beautiful, has a great body, loves sex, and cooks, cleans and works. On the negatives, she's an immigrant which is a shitty process to go through, she's Jamaican and black which will be hard to explain to my mom and family when and if that time comes, isn't college-educated, and has pre- type-II diabetes. But she's a real sweetheart and love and never fights or raises her voice. Almost too submissive, honestly. But I do love her.

My BS meter is going crazy right now. Or you never learned how to actually play with your athletic gifts.

If you're 5'8", you should've been draining threes like clockwork and focused on little else if you wanted to play varsity. Who cares about the crazy shots and why would you try to penetrate when you're shorter than everybody else? Plus, even at 6'1", you have to be insanely talented/athletic just to sniff an NBA roster. So there's no guarantee that if you were "just a little bit taller" you would've been all set. You also forgot to mention that if you were taller, you'd lose your quickness advantage.

I'm telling you bro, the guys who were 6'1" or less, who actually went on to legit colleges with chances to play in the NBA, were consistently nailing threes five feet behind the arc and dropping 25+ a game in AAU/varsity ball. If you weren't doing atleast that, you have nothing to complain about.

This is a guy who I grew up playing against who only made it as far as China in terms of professional ball. Look what he's doing to Derrick Rose and Eric Gordon. There are plenty of guys like this, who even when they dominate AAU ball, they don't make it to the NBA

:lol I always assume UNT is trolling, so I doubt he's serious, but I'm never surprised at the amount of average people who think they could have made the NBA or NFL or baseball or whatever if they had the height or luck..

If you're anywhere near 6 feet tall or under, you better have a crazy vertical(in addition to speed, of course, which should be a given at that size) to go along with a Godly handle(guys like Isiah Thomas and Iverson have 40 inch verticals or close IIRC)..I don't know how somebody like JJ Barea got in the league, though:lol

The problem is, everyone around the school and neighborhood knew I wanted to shoot and couldn't get past them, they knew that if they were athletic & taller and crowded me tightly and got physical with me from about 30 feet out that I'd be suffocated and would have no option but to pick up my dribble and pass. I got too many turnovers, too many passes picked that way in varsity tryouts the October of my sophomore year. I was just too timid under pressure. I always thrived when the guy defending me sagged off and I could either shoot or blow past them in space to the rim. Get physical with me, however, and I was essentially taken out of the game.

I ended up playing a couple months as a backup PG on the JV team before joining the varsity baseball team. That worked out pretty damn good until I started whiffing on a bunch of fly balls and getting cut that spring.

tbh he could be trolling but I think he's more like the Jacob1983 guy in that they both have no filter of their personal lives. I try to guard what I say on here because I know if I give even a tad bit of information, guys like Wild Cobra could use Kepler's Laws and Bernoulli's equation to set up a system of equations to do the rest of the work in figuring out my exact location. I always enjoy the occasional bantz with UNT though. He's a swell scro.

You're right too on the vertical. If you look up Allen Iverson's AAU highlight reel, you'll see that in high school, even he was dunking on people.

But I don't have the black ups, though I have been known to block some jumpshots of some taller guys because I'm smart and great at timing, but that only gets you so far when you're 5'8", skinny and allergic to physical play. I'm basically then JJ Redick white with Nate Robinson's height, Steph Curry's physique, and Nash/Manu's passing skill set.

Not a couple inches, but at least 6'2" (I was projected to be at least 6'1" but then couldn't eat for 2 critical months during a growth spurt at age 14 due to flu and pneumonia, february 2009)

Laid off not because they were willing to work for less money, but because I wasn't on a project team and my back-end database skills were... very good, but they wanted more front end stuff in the STS subdivision and I hate object oriented programming and that shit.

Are you seriously confusing the words mongoloid and Mongolian?

yeah, this is definitely a shtick.
Mongoloid refers to the broad division of humankind including the indigenous peoples of eastern Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Arctic region of North America.

Epicanthic folds and oblique palpebral fissures (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palpebral_fissure) are common among Mongoloid individuals. Most exhibit the Mongolian spot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_spot) from birth to about age four. Mongoloid individuals have straight, black hair and dark brown almond-shaped eyes, and have broad, relatively flat faces as well.[5] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongoloid#cite_note-Montagu.2C_A._1951-5)

Traits more controversially ascribed to Mongoloids include high intelligence and a stoic, taciturn, unaggressive demeanor. The extent to which individual psychological makeup is a social construct (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_construct), rather than a matter of biology, remains a matter of debate. (See also the articles Race and intelligence (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_intelligence) and Model minority (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_minority).)

The term "mongoloid" was introduced by 18th century (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/18th_century) ethnologists (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnology) to describe Central Asian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Asian) and East Asian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Asian) populations, as part of a tripartite typological model (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_%28human_categorization%29#Early_taxonomic_mo dels) of race: Mongoloid, Caucasoid (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasoid), and Negroid (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negroid).
