View Full Version : Spurs Fox TV ratings Drop 43 % from last Year

FOXSW tv ratings dropped 43% from last year. I don't think it's because Tim retired.
Some of it can be cable cutters but I think the main cause is DIRECT TV placing
FOXSOUTHWEST in it's sports tier that you have to pay extra for. On all the cable
systems in and around San Antonio FOXSW is not in a sports tier you have to pay
extra for. The Spurs should pressure Direct TV to put it in a package like basic or HD tier.

Another thing is I no longer listen or read interviews from POP. He has this elitist attitude
that if you didn't vote for Hillary you are a stupid rube hick...I didn't vote for Hillary because
I couldn't get over letting 4 men die in Libya die with no help. Did POP have a problem with that?
Also I wont vote for Sanders because he is a socialist.

What wasn't mentioned and should be noted is that local TV ratings for the league were also down and that the Spurs are top 5 in the league in local TV ratings.

Although not the intent of OP, the subject of this thread and lack of viewership from TV deals has made me wonder how it will affect the NBA revenue next season, the cap, etc.

For me, no Tim has made it feel odd this year, but I've honestly watched as many games as in the past. Although I will admit that I've missed a lot of games fully knowing that I'll just watch the 9 minute highlights on YouTube and feeling pretty satisfied about it.
AndAs much as we want to put each other down for voting or not voting for a certain candidate, it would be ignorant to say that pops political rants has had no bearing on local tv viewership.

I didn't vote and I HATED both candidates but I personally get annoyed by his political rants. But I'm too big a Spurs fan to care and again I don't care about trump so I don't care that he's putting him down but those Spurs fans who are trump fans might feel differently. Instead I wish he would rant when the refs are screwing us in the playoffs or rant when he's getting out coached.

Ratings for other markets are down for their local nba games. Both the NBA and the NFL have experienced lower ratings.

Yes, but does that account for viewership increasing over streaming?

I believe last year was the first full year of the Foxsports App, and THIS year was the first year you could cast to a platform like Cromecast. That's the only way I catch the games, unless ESPN is streaming.

Such butthurt from the right after Pop said you can't trust anything Trump says. So which of these Trump claims is true?

(1) Barack Obama wasn't born in the US and thus could not legally be president
(2) Ted Cruz's father was part of the plot to kill JFK
(3) Vaccines cause autism
(4) Trump had the biggest in person audience ever at a presidential inauguration
(5) Trump won the most electoral votes since Reagan
(6) Trump really won the popular vote because allegedly 5 million illegals in California cast votes for Clinton
(7) The free press is the enemy of the American people

About the only thing Dear Leader ever said that's trustworthy is that he could just go shoot someone and still not lose his base.

I don't get how people can't love being Spurs fans. This team has been in the mix for a title for 26 of the last 27 years. It doesn't get any better than being a Spurs fan. Being on pace to win 60+ games after Tim Duncan retires just blows my mind.

Best OFFRTG ever, AST% and AST ratio on par with anything they've had and better than during the 2014 playoff run.

Not a single player in top 30 in ISO frequency. Only one player in top 100 in points scored from ISO (Kawhi ~20th).

Very laughable thread. Like someone brought up earlier which is ratings are down throughout the whole entire league. David Robinson was a hardcore republican when he was with the Spurs but that didn't stop me from rooting for the Spurs. I was still a spurs fan in '03 when he called out anybody who was anti-Iraq War un-american. For those of you who don't know I was anti-war back then. You guys are bunch of cry babies who are simply angry because Pop doesn't agree with your political views. Time for you idiots to make a decision about your fandom. If Pop's political views offend you so much stop being a fan of the spurs and just a get new hobby.

I don't watch as many live games as I used to, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the actual team, tbh..I still watch whenever I can..

Measuring TV ratings or record sales with the traditional methods is antiquated, obviously..there are so many different ways to stream/download sports/music/movies nowadays, it's very difficult to accurately gauge the real number of viewers..cord-cutting is only going to get more sophisticated, too..

I can't even fathom how somebody could stop watching the NFL because players were kneeling during the anthem(which has nothing to do with the fucking game) or quit the NBA because Pop doesn't like Trump:lol..

This team is definitely a little boring, Spurs have always won a lot of games but that doesn't mean it's exciting. It's just a hard to rally around the team this season because they're incredibly frustrating but considering their record and that there is no Tim Duncan anymore you'll have to take it.

In addition to cord cutting, as part of the new tv deal the league also staggered there marquee games to be toward the end of the season.

In other words, more Orlando-Sacramento type games in the early going, and more Spurs-Warriors type games toward the end. The former makes for shitty viewing, which is the bulk of what the fox survey is probably working with.

The San Antonio Business Journal reports that a faulty encoder (http://www.bizjournals.com/sanantonio/news/2017/03/27/technical-glitch-not-trump-talk-to-blame-for-spurs.html) was the culprit that explained why the team's ratings dropped despite the team's strong overall performance.

The Spurs' ratings originally were reported at a 5.11 record last month. FSSW officials told the SABJ that ratings actually should have been slightly above 7.00, which would have placed the team second in the league, behind only Golden State's 8.54. San Antonio's ratings at a similar point in 2015-2016 were at 8.99 for FSSW games, which would have meant the franchise's ratings still would have skidded about 20 percent from last season.
