Seems to have been ALOT of nasty injuries lately. Najeh Davenport, Prothro, etc.

Which sports injurie do you think is the worst?

The Mularchuck or w/e that goalies name was is hands down the worst. What comes in second? Thiesmann? McGahee?

Napoleon McCallum's was freaking horrible on MNF about nine years ago.

Jason Kendall, Robin Ventura, and some guy for Nebraska had terrible ankle injuries.

Prothro's is up there. Tim Krumrie. Moises Alou. Dave Dravecky.

Read this story, and here's your winner, though: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/international/2354565.stm

This is a nasty one: http://www.matera.com.au/brown1.jpg

I remember seeing this old highlight of a boxing match and one of the boxers severely breaks his leg. it bent forward in almost a 90 degree angle.it's just weird seeing body parts bent the wrong way.

A pretty gross picture, but I guess you've all seen blood - and half of us probably look at ogrish.com. And you can probably guess there will be some pictures just by the thread title.

Another angle:

Here's the story on it. Took 300 stitches to close it.

My injury when playing football, landed all my weight and had my hand in a fist and landed on it, broke my arm in 2 places.

Sid Viscious doing a jump kick from the turnbuckle and landing on his leg wrong. His leg folded in half like a toothpick. The man got up and finished the match! Now that's hardcore.

Wrestling? Do you count that as a sport?

Why wouldn't wrestling be considered a sport?

I had a pretty good one playing football...broke my femur about 5" below my hip...ended up with the cleats on my left foot touching my nose...I was in traction for 8 weeks, body cast for 8 weeks, and crutches for 6 more weeks...

I went to school with a guy who broke his femur playing basketball, but not that bad. Too bad for him; he fractured it again and it destroyed his BB career at that point. I think his little brother plays for Tech now, though.

That had to have been a life threatening injury, CC - merely breaking your femur is bad enough.

On SNL "Superfans", Chris Farley once got a third degree burn from scalding nacho cheese at a Bears game in '86.

Good call. There was also that one outfielder in the Naked Gun that got attacked by the tiger.

I am a big time football fan. From October to January my Sundays and Monday nights are booked solid. I always thought football was the roughest sport (just check out my injury prone fantasy team by Week 6). I got to give credit though to these Rugby guys. No pads, no helmets, but the same crushing blows.

Unmitigated violence. I miss rugby. :depressed

Actually, BECAUSE you don't have helmets and pads, the hits are not as "crushing" as they would be in a football game - no hard materials, etc. It hurts you, too, you know?

It was a good news/bad news kind of thing...the break was fairly clean so it didn't cut everything up and compound...but still had a lot of internal bleeding...the bad news was that I had to be in traction for 8 weeks just to pull the bone back out far enough so they could set it...my left leg was like 4" shorter than my right leg at first...We finally gave up on getting it perfectly straight and the femur still has a slight "bend" in it...but it healed well enough that I was able to go on and play contact sports in high school and college...
