As I said in another thread, probably the biggest game of the year. Winning would essentially lock up the division and two-seed while also launching Kawhi into the main-stream MVP conversation.

Danny Green better show up tonight - both on offense and defense. We need his D to be locked in and he's gotta start hitting some open shots. I better not see him hesitate and pass it off, or dribble in for a stupid shot after having a wide open 3 like he's been doing lately.

Spurs can't afford a lackadaisical start here.. I don't think they would have the energy to comeback from double digit deficit vs this Rockets team after a draining week..

This really could get ugly very quick..so let's hope our guys are up for it..

Not with KD injured. GS games really only have downside to Kawhi now. But going 3-1 against Harden, 3-0 against Russ and 2-0 against Lebron would be HUGE for him.

The one thing I'm noticing with Patty is his balance. He seems to be fading away more than usual, or taking awkward steps to get set or something of that nature.

I really hope he had a chance to look at film, squares his body and cuts out the uncessary extra dribble/movement.

I dunno man. It's all about the #1 seed that's the biggest argument chip for his case..winning on Saturday and him dropping 30 helps that. But yes winning against Hou/OKC help. Saturday is icing on the cake imo. None of it matters if he doesn't win on Saturday

I think Warriors should be ranked number one still - people lost their minds over KD being injured (it is a big deal) but GS is still an elite team and until there is truly a stumble and/or SA really starts playing better GS should remain one.

However, if SA has a great week this week vs HOU, OKC and GS? That changes everything.

Spurs by 7. Just contain Ariza, Anderson, and Beverly while Harden scores 40. Gordon hasn't played as good as he did to start the season in well over a month while the Spurs simply don't have anyone to guard Williams off the bench.

this +1000, it's funny how the rankers will use one argument to keep their sacred cow on top one week and then go against it the next week to keep their sacred cows on top. One week recent play trumps overall record and head to head when it means keeping/putting the Cavs over the Spurs one week then the very next week the Dubs are still #1 even though they have lost two games in a week and the selfsame Spurs have won 7 in a row. smh. However when the Spurs have the best record and the longest hot streak what then??? Probably woulda coulda shoulda about injuries.

Telling game right here. If we win this one, it means the team is good for real and will definitely make it to the WCF presenting a puncher's chance against the Warriors. If not, then we are much closer to the Rockets and Clippers than to the Warriors, and could easily lose in the secomd round. Folks act like the RS doesn't matter, but it does, specially certain games.

So what does it mean if we beat Houston tonight and then get blown out by 25 against GS later in the week? What does it mean if we lose to Houston tonight and then crush GS by 30?

I mean, yeah, certain regular season games are more important than others...but to imply that one regular season game can determine our playoff fate is pretty hyperbolic.

Damn right.
A single, regular season game does not quite equate into a playoff series.
Peeps remember when OKC dominated the Spurs in the reg? And then the Spurs defeated them in the playoffs? Why, I think that was their championship season!
Wow! What a memory I have!

Yup, I also remember Ibaka being injured... and him coming back and killing it too. and the Spurs still killed them, in the End.

I put very little concern in opposition during the reg, I put all concern into the Spurs and how they are doing on a consistency level.
And how synergistic the D is.

That is the Key.

ALL regular season games are important. Did 2015 not teach you anything when the Spurs dropped from the #2 seed to the #6 seed on the last day of the regular season and well, you know that turned out. That's not really what DAF was talking about, though. We're not talking about seeding here. Obviously one game can change seeding and affect a team's playoff fate...I'm not denying that. What I am denying is the idea that a single regular season game can show whether a team is legitimate or not. The Spurs blowing out Houston tonight doesn't suddenly make them title contenders, and the Spurs getting blown out by Houston tonight doesn't suddenly make them pretenders.

It's not the game itself, it's how dominant are the match-ups.
How many match-ups can Houston dominate the Spurs?

I don't think enough. The Clippers?
They could have enough match-up problems to actually be problematic.

That's the true word: which match-ups are truly problematic to the team, as a whole, over a 7 game series?

The Hawks beating the Warriors would be worrisome to GS. Atlanta doesn't have the talent to beat even this version of them. It would be all coaching. Spurs East might be the smartest team in their conference, but other teams could emulate them.

The Hawks beating the Warriors would be worrisome to GS. Atlanta doesn't have the talent to beat even this version of them. It would be all coaching. Spurs East might be the smartest team in their conference, but other teams could emulate them.

No more worrisome than a healthy Spurs team losing to the Knicks.

42 points in the 1st to an East team, after barely beating the NYK... Draymond is truly the fakest prospective DPOY.
At least he's a bit eloquent, during interviews... Yay.

I watched Kawhi take entire teams out of their offense, personally, like a 1 man wrecking ball on a building for condemnation...

That man completely wrecks teams, but yeah... let's vote for Draymond, who constantly allows his team to give up well over 110 to decent offenses.

He can guard positions 1-5 in equally shitty ways. What a game-changer.
Durant goes down and they lose and lose and Dray-Day says the are "fucked" without him and he's the leading candidate to win... anything?

Danny, even when he's in a terrible slump, never let's me down when I make a Danny 3 counter prediction. I know he's struggling, but I also know this game and as long as he's not in early foul trouble guarding Harden he makes AT LEAST 5 3's.

Patty is an extreme liability on D. He HAS to perform on O, or he's a massive negative for the team.
What does he do, when he's not hitting shots?

He makes a few hustle plays?
Yay.

He gives up tons of points in the interim, unless he's hitting.

He's not hitting... he's useless, other than his gravity, which is actually more useful than current Parker.

The PG situation is so sad right now... I'm praying for Murray to make a huge leap next year.

We'll see what Pop does, tbh, but he rarely plays his matchups as he would in a playoff game during the regular season... it's just two different goals at the respective times. Regular season is about building the rotation and cohesion, on the playoffs you go at individual matchups much more.

Pop doesn't do much during the playoffs, you know that.
When has he gone drastic, or cray cray on a team before it got desperate?

When has he truly changed the game-plan in the playoffs that ended up salvaging things?
Or going pro-active and changed the whole scenario of a series with his match-ups?

Just Diaw in '14... that's it, in my memory.

The Spurs are winning but, I wouldn't say they're clicking on all cylinders either. In GS's case, take away Durant, Bogut, Barnes, Rush, Ezeli, Barbosa and Speights and you basically have a shell of a team. I wonder what the Spurs would look like without Kawhi? Atlanta is a halfway decent team at home. They nearly overcame a 27 point deficit to beat the Cavs.

That's his game. Remember? Always been his game, since he's been playing ball.
What's not to understand?

No. Ryan Anderson sucks. He literally does nothing outside of have a few good shooting nights.

LMA doesn't do anything on offense at least. Except take inefficient shots.

A blowout tonight might be for the best. Spurs need rest for Kawhi/LMA and a reality check that their current level of play won't cut it for the first round, much less for the elite teams of the league.

His offense hurts the team a lot though. That turnaround shot from his right ahoulder has totally deserted him, it never looks like it has a remote chance of going in.

What do you mean by NBA shot? I can't get in an NBA game and get the same open looks Danny gets. I can have a shooting contest with him and I think I could wipe the floor with him in a all-star weekend type of 3 point comp, but other than that, what are you talking about?

Fuck, Spurs are getting humiliated out there. 39 points in the first quarter for the Rockets. Spurs guards are so, so bad that we can't take advantage of the Rockets' average defense. I really think we gotta give Murray a chance. Spurs should have tried to make some sort of trade for a better guard. I wanted Green traded. He is beyond useless. I called a couple of months ago and he's gotten worse and worse since then.
