Ann Arbor woman pleads guilty to making up hate crime

http://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/index.ssf/2017/03/ann_arbor_woman_pleads_guilty_1.html

Halley Bass admitted in court that she fabricated a story about a strange man scratching her face in downtown Ann Arbor on Nov. 15.

"I was suffering from depression at the time," Bass told Judge Elizabeth Pollard Hines. "I made a superficial scratch on my face. It was visible and I was embarrassed about what I'd done. So I made up a story and told a friend that a stranger had done it while I was walking. I was encouraged to report it to the police. I made the mistake of doing that."

At the time, Bass claimed her attack was part of the surge in hate crimes following the election of Donald Trump a week earlier. She told police she was targeted for wearing a solidarity pin connected to Great Britain's "Brexit" vote.

Cool, another confirmation bias thread. Hate crimes are less of a concern because occasionally one of them turns out to be false.

I mean, fuck this bitch, but still. Should we create a thread for every false 911 call too?

Seems like a surge of fake hate crimes has coincided with a supposed surge of hate crimes following the election of Donald Trump.

Well then obviously the increase is all fakers.

Just like, in baseball, if a player gets more at-bats than last season and has more strikeouts, we can mathematically conclude that all of the extra at-bats were strikeouts. Logic win!

I know you guys hate hearing this because you internalize any suggestion that some Trump voters are also shitty people, but the most likely and feasible explanation for an increase in hate crimes against ethnic and religious minorities following Trump's election is that ethnic and religious minorities have been targeted by actual hate crimes following the election. Unless you have some kind of report or can find any law enforcement official who believes the increase in hate crime is driven by faked crimes, it can be safely assumed that there has been a real increase in hate crimes.

That doesn't mean we think you personally are committing, or capable of committing, hate crimes just because you voted for Trump (or - didn't vote for him but still have some strange need to reflexively defend everything he or his supporters do.) But just like liberals have to deal with the fact that Antifa shares some of their viewpoints and acts on them in very wrong ways, you're just going to have to accept that there are Trump supporters who vandalize mosques and beat up minorities.

The SPLC reported 1,094 hate crimes the month after the election.

Clipper Nation's website, even if 100% true, shows 294 examples of faked hate crimes going back to at least as early as 1980 (from what I saw, I didn't look at every page or do any work whatsoever to verify the content because :lol fakehatecrimes.org).

Good job everybody!

Young Republican who claimed Obama supporter carved letter 'B' on her face during robbery made the story up, police say (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1080189/Young-Republican-claimed-Obama-supporter-carved-letter-B-face-robbery-story-police-say.html)

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/search.html?s=&authornamef=Daily+Mail+Reporter)
UPDATED: 08:05 GMT, 27 October 2008

A McCain campaign volunteer who claimed she was robbed, pinned to the ground and had the letter 'B' scratched on her face by a Barack Obama supporter made the whole story up, police said.

Ashley Todd, 20-year-old college student from Texas, admitted that the story was false, including the claim that the 'B' stood for 'Barack,' said Maurita Bryant, the assistant chief of the police department's investigations division in Pittsburg.

Here's a thread about it that Darrin participated in. I'll let you guess if he exercised the same skepticism about this attack that he does towards alleged attacks against non-conservatives.

So confirmation bias is bad but tu quoque is perfectly acceptable.

Also: Darrin suffers from confirmation bias, so as proof of that here's a cherry picked thread from 2008 to confirm my claim.

Now cry foul again because I broke one off in your ass after you opened your deep state pie hole.

I don't think faking hate crimes was trendy in 2008. With the SJW movement, groups have been competing for most victimized status.
