View Full Version : #9 Notre Dame vs. #1 USC

HB22inSA

This is the big one.

Being a Notre Dame fan, I'm naturally picking the upset.

But it should be a good game.

USC gave up 21 points to Arizona, but the Irish lost their only home game of the year to Michigan St.

USC 43
Notre Dame 45

Texas becomes #1 and Notre Dame moves up to #5.

I would like to see that happen, but I just don't see it happening.

The wheel bearings on the Notre Dame bandwagon would sieze up under the increased load from a ND upset.

You could argue that Texas may benefit more from USC going undefeated.

Leinart should be able to throw for at least 400 yds against that weak ass ND secondary
I'll be rooting for the Irish though

Unless ND's secondary does a Cinderella, I look for Leinhart to have a big passing day. Weiss is the master of offense, but his offense will have to be clicking and the defense will have to make several stops in order for ND to upset USC. Of course, there's always the "luck" factor as well.

samikeyp

"USC is down by 4...10 seconds left, the ball is snapped....Leinart throws...Bush catches the ball on the 50, he's all clear!!, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, OH NO!...he tripped up at the 15. He was all by himself and he tripped at the 15 and the game is over...Notre Dame wins!.....wait...look at the replay..is that..a...hand? coming out of the turf?" :lol

LOL! I recall a big game vs. Michigan some years ago when the Irish were down with very little time on the clock. The ND QB threw a pass right at a Michigan defender. The ball bobbled off the defenders arms and right into an Irish receiver's hands for a TD. That's just ONE incident in a string of "lucky" happenings the Irish have been privvy to in their history. They'll definately need some of that "luck" this weekend to pull the upset.

I'm going to tell you something I've kept to myself for years. None of you ever knew George Gipp. It was long before your time. But you all know what a tradition he is at Notre Dame.

And the last thing he said to me, "Rock," he said, "sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Gipper."

"I don't know where I'll be then, Rock", he said, "but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

of course, i think (and hope) sc will win. i'll go with 42-24.

i hope this game is like 2002 when both teams were ranked in the top 10 and sc went on a tear. but i doubt that. it will definitely be harder this year for a couple reasons... it is in south bend not la and our top linebacker might not make it back (his backup is also out for the year) plus numerous other injuries on the defensive side. hopefully, our offense can make up for it. i also think that the team is pumped up for this game... part of the reason why they let arizona keep it close.

USC 52 ND 28
Why does USC comeback in the second half? Easy answer. It is not the guys throwing, catching, running the balll...it is the BIG BOYS up front. Control the line of scrimmage, control the game. That little 3 foot area is so crucial. It is how my "Men Of Corn" dominated for so long. If you can control the Line of Scrimmage for 60 minutes, then you can be predictable and still win. The Huskers and others have proven it for years. Take your eyes off of Lineart and watch the "LINE ART".

I'd give my Irish ass to see ND vs UT this year.

I could tape the game, put a sound track with it

I know all streaks must come to an end but the 27 in a row is not a fluke. It's hilarious to me that many Texans don't appreciate USC football. Bush and White is like Dickerson and James but they have a QB too. And we can't forget about Dwayne Jarrett who happens to be a sophomore. The guy is Mike Williams with speed.

I really want to see Southern Cal and Texas in the Rose Bowl. I think they are the two best college teams I have seen in a long time. Vince Young is the real deal.

Aggie Hoopsfan

Yeah I saw the illegal block too.

There was Notre Dame players shoving SC players on that fumble play, one ND player ripped an SC player off the pile and threw him down.

Yet an SC player gets a personal foul (conveniently a first down on what should have been 4th and 23 from the ND 10) for a little shove.

This game is reminding me why I hated watching Notre Dame growing up. Fuckers get every single mother fucking NBC sponsored call.

Fuck the Irish.

I just watched the replay on my DVR. The guy who was ripped out of the pile by his feet and thrown down was #36. The same guy that ended up getting the 15 yard penalty called on him. I guess the refs didn't like the way he landed on the ground. :rolleyes

I Tivoed it. NBC showed the worst angle possible on the replay to try and prop up their Golden Domers (shocking, I know...). On the live shot #66 had his hands up inside the OL's facemask, that's an automatic 15.

If Virginia Tech makes it through that schedule they have undefeated, Texas is going to be on the outside looking in at the Rose Bowl.

Who cares how SC is hanging on? Their QB got his bell rung in the third and fought through it to lead them to two TDs in the last 6 minutes and win the game.

All SC has to do is be winning at the end of every game, they'll be in Pasadena. And with a month to prepare I don't think anyone can take down Carroll's staff or his team.

Aggie Hoopsfan

Suddenly a fan? I enjoy watching good football. In case you haven't noticed it with all your orange hero worship, SC plays some pretty damn good football.

Reggie Bush is the funnest player to watch in college football, you never know what he's going to do. Total hoss.

Seeings you're a little bit myopic and can't see past your orange and white Vince Young mancrush, let me clue you in - this SC team is one of the greatest any of us will ever get to see in college football. The combination of Leinhart, Bush, White, and Jarrett is probably the sickest core group of offensive players assembled in the last 20 years at least (and probably longer).

We are watching one of the great all time teams, that will be talked about for decades to come, and you're groveling about them "just getting by" like some spiteful, immature little wannabe.

Has a single ranking to lose from it? Dude, speak english.

For some reason SC played conservative offensively compared to what I'm used to seeing out of them. That probably goes with their D being dinged up and trying to keep the ball away from the ND offense. They could have thrown on ND's secondary all day long.

I feel sorry for people who can't see the big picture. The Big 12 is down this year. VTech still has to play BC, Miami and probably in the ACC championship game FSU. Both FSU and Miami are in the top 6. Their strength of schedule will be way higher than what Vince gets to play this year.

VTech goes undefeated, the computer polls will put them out in top. Plus, they make it through Miami and FSU, I wouldn't be surprised to see VT hop Texas in the AP and the BCS football pros poll or whatever the hell it's called.

sure, it might have been a little lucky that leinart fumbled which stopped the clock, but the irish always get the luck...but regardless, he also came back right after that and willed his way into the endzone. after taking all of those hits today, he shouldn't have made it in, but he twisted his way in. it was like slow motion watching it.

that was one of the greatest games i have seen. and to all the people who don't think that sc pulled thru like champions, i have one thing to say: my friend from notre dame actually called me to congratulate sc. a notre dame student who was on the field in the final seconds (and obviously very biased and emotional) knew that two great teams played some great football. period.

Reggie Bush is fucking insane.

Good call Rico. That spot at the end of the game screwed the Irish. The ball went out closer to the 5 than the goal line. Difference between overtime and and ND loss. Brady Quinn is the shit. He played very Tom Bradyesque on that final drive.

Man, some of you are haters. The Trojans pulled off a 4th and 8 with an audible call on the road with the game on the line. Leinart throws a perfect pass from deep in his own territory to Jarrett who takes it to the Irish 10.

And you think Southern Cal was shaking in their boots? You don't pull off plays like that if you're scared.

Absolutely the greatest college football game I have ever seen. Incredible.

the players might not have been shaking in their boots, but i sure was. games are stressful. dwayne jarrett, even after a few dropped balls, came up huge. i am going to guess that he wasn't scared.

i just hope that after the huge victory today we don't get off track against the easy teams (washington, washington state, and stanford). it would be good to be on a roll against cal, fresno state, and ucla.

Are you kidding me? Notre Dame had the refs in their pockets all day long.

You can put 7 seconds back on the clock because Matt fumbled the ball out of bounds dumbass. Quit being such a hater.

I Tivoed it. NBC showed the worst angle possible on the replay to try and prop up their Golden Domers (shocking, I know...). On the live shot #66 had his hands up inside the OL's facemask, that's an automatic 15.

God y'all are pathetic. Notre Dame gets more calls than any team in college football, and you're whining about them getting owned at the end.

Fucking beautiful. :hat

Alright lets act like you.

4 quarters. what did the scoreboard say at the end of those games?

and since when does owned mean 14-21, 14-7, 3-21 at halftime?

and luck wasn't the only reason they won.

Marcus Bryant
10-15-2005, 09:09 PM
USC has everyone gunning for them and they haven't had a piece of cake schedule. Also, the remainder of their schedule isn't that easy. It's just as difficult as what Texas has left.

Going into South Bend and beating Notre Dame is just as, if not more impressive, than beating an Ohio State team who has proven to be something less than the #3 team in the country.

Hopefully, if USC and Texas win out then we will have a game between them to settle it. But if Va Tech wins out they have just as much a right to be there as Texas.

USC is getting the job done...I can't remember a National Title team that didn't have at least a couple of close games...let alone a couple of close halves...maybe one of those Miami teams back in the late 80's. USC played a few close games last year too. But that didn't stop them from raping the pride of the Big XII in the Championship game.

This is ridiculous. SC one of the greatest teams ever? They've struggled against Oregon, Arizona State, and Notre Dame. I'll be surprised if they finish the season undefeated. It's still a possibility, but they have tough games against Cal and UCLA coming up. Someone's going to start picking their secondary apart really soon.

You can put 7 seconds back on the clock because Matt fumbled the ball out of bounds

Recheck your TIVO, it was under 7 secs & review the rules on spotting the ball after a fumble goes out of bounds which the ball did, backwards around the 3-4 yard line.

Awesome game though!
UT needs to play a team like USC because they're the only ones that can offer serious competition right now. Or at least 99.9% of the Horns Hater Nation thinks so. :lol

Not likely unless UT loses.
VaTech has a "tough" schedule where they may very well lose not just 1 but 2 games & right now there is no other team in the Big 12 this year.

Unlikely that Ga leap frogs the Horns.

Recheck your TIVO, it was under 7 secs &

The side judge blew the whistle and signaled to stop the clock at 7 seconds. The ND time keeper did pause it for about 2 seconds, then let it run out.
