View Full Version : Pop and Kerr – Memo to the NBA

Fresh off their decimation of some guy Trump (President Donald), protesting kindred spirits Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich are at it again. And arguably doing it in tag-team concert once again.

This time, they’ve set their sights on a higher target than the President – the NBA, itself.

Each has his own beef and each has the biggest of stages to take it up on – Saturday night prime time.

Pop is pissed because the knuckle-dragging OKC squad, year in year out, seems to get away with sheer muggery against his pacifist “beautiful game” squad. Last year OKC’s Cro-Magnon center Steven Adams actually pushed a high-paying front row female Spurs fan onto the floor during a playoff game – it caused such a stir that I bet you don’t even remember it.

This year Victor Oladipo flails away at the megatalented but passive Kawhi Leonard. Kawhi sits out the rest of the game and OKC wins. No foul no nothing. Pop simply said: “"He got hit in the mouth or the cheek or the head or something. I'm not sure which. So the trainer thought he should sit.”

Similarly, Kerr has his own issues with the league. It’s called "the Arctic to Tropic one day vacation.” The NBA set up the biggest regular season game in SA as a back-to-back for the Warriors. Did the league send the Warriors to SA from Houston, or Dallas, or New Orleans? Nope, Minneapolis. Canada to Mexico with no stops in between. The Warriors get into town at 3:00 a.m. for the mini-Western Conference Finals with no time breathe, much less rest. But don’t worry Warriors, at least you won’t have to adjust to any weather change.

So Kerr responds by sitting four of his best five players – Curry, Thompson, Iguodala and Green (the fifth, Durant, is already out).

According to Pop and Kerr, the league pays little mind to their plaintive complaints or “official” protests.” But they both know there’s someone the league does listen to - ABC.

Like a bad travel agent, the league doesn’t listen to the Warriors’ travel complaints.

Like an abusive spouse, the league doesn’t care about the Spurs battering complaints.

So when your boss is mistreating you, you need to get the ear of his boss - ABC. That’s what Pop and Kerr are doing by withholding their marquee stars.

After this fiasco, maybe ABC will listen and, more importantly, do the complaining for them. Memo sent.

OP's insinuating that Kawhi's head "trauma" isn't as severe as portrayed by the Spurs coaching staff at the last game against OKC, that he might have been capable of coming back playing but was held for this particular vendetta aka protest.

In fairness, both of these teams have just been through the toughest part of their season schedule-wise and due to injuries and lack of depth, you probably still have to pick a few games a year to do this. Kerr can still win this game and the Spurs now have a shot to win it.

The Warriors whining is fucking sickening and shows just how far gone and unaware they are. As if they're the only ones that have ever had a ridiculous stretch of schedule or anyone is ever going to feel sorry for their spoiled asses.

In general, their outspokenness speaks to their arrogance. At least Pop didn't start this shit until he had built up so much currency that his word, in the basketball world, was viewed as gospel and the Spurs players have never pulled this. These guys have been relevant for less than 3 seasons (and have a whole 1 gift wrapped championship), yet carry themselves like they've been doing it for 20.

I would be livid if I was a Warriors fan, he's practically gifting the 1st seed. With KL and LA injuries Kerr would probably only need to play his stars about 20 minutes each to pull the win tonight.

It's clear that both Pop and Kerr are trying to impact the league's bottom line with this kind of behaviour. Unless you think Silver is happy to see his product getting this kind of press: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18886924/highly-anticipated-golden-state-warriors-san-antonio-spurs-game

All this, especially the last sentence. This team really does act like they've already achieved dynasty status.
