It's about Indiana but it's the same thing with Spurs.

With the old CBA, players on injury list have to stay at least 5 games on it.
With the new CBA, players can stay one game on inactive list.

Do you think, Spurs should change their active roster each game ?

They can active Marks against Shaq or Yao, Jawad Williams or Sharrod Ford (if they aren't cut) against big SF like Tmac, put tired players on inactive list for back-to-back instead of playing with 11 players like they did with Ginobili last season.

Im sure with the new additions we will see many different rotations throughout the season all the way up till the playoffs. But I dont think they will be changing the active roster barring injury of course.

Pop has a history of changing things up anyway.
I'm sure we'll see all kinds of creative combos this season.

If the Spurs can move players on and off of the inactive list without having to sit them for 5 games at a time, I could see Marks being activated for a number of games (particularly if Pop wants to another big a night off) or if the Spurs are facing a guy like Shaq. I could also see it being helpful to allowing Pop to give Manu, Tony, Tim, or whoever else a night off in the middle of a roadtrip or something like that. It creates the need for strategy in how teams use their extra roster spots, since those guys are more likely to be called upon now than they were in years gone by.

I think the idea of an NHL-like "healthy scratch" rule will help the Spurs tremendously and put more emphasis on building a complete roster. I suspect we might see a Wilks-like acquisition before the season opens, as teams start to waive camp fodder.

Yes I do think so.

You see it in baseball, or hockey as FWD mentioned. An upcoming 3-game series with an NL (no DH) team with lots of lefty hitters? No problem. Send down a bench bat or two and bring up from the minors two extra left hand pitchers. You need a better checking line to counter the Phila. Fliers' strengths? No problem. Don't dress 2 of your 4th line forwards and dress 2 more physical, 2-way wingers.

Pop would probably want to add another big for the Heat. He might want another defensive wing for the Rockets.

I don't think yo-yoing your starters between NBA and NDBL per-game for rest is how any coach is going to operate.

I think yo-yoing is for players 9 - 15 predominantly, mayby only.

Remember, the Spurs nearly always have a couple of "injured" guys dressed in plain clothes sitting and cheering on. The Spurs probably won't have all of their extras playing for Austin. Besides we are only talking about up-to 15 players period. They won't have more than that under contract.

It does allow the former IR players to be switched with 1-12 players on a game to game basis. Trust me not having to wait 5 games on the IR is a good thing.

To clarify, under the NBA CBA, teams are allowed to carry up to 15 players under contract...12 active (required) and up to three inactive, unless there is a real hardship situation determined by the league i.e. 3 players are "really injured" and on the inactive list and then a 4th player gets hurt and cannot play.

The league agreed to a clause that states teams will maintain an average roster size of 14 players over the course of the season.

Yes, players can move from active to inactive on a nightly basis, if the team chooses to do so.

What the team cannot do is:
- move a player under contract to the NBDL who has played more than 2 years in the NBA. Only rookies or players with 1 yr. of NBA time (0-1 yr.) can be moved to the NBDL.
- move a 0-1 yr. NBA player to the NBDL more than 3 times in one season.
- move a 0-1 yr. NBA player to the NBDL for disciplinary/punishment reasons (I'm sure teams could have "other" reasons and get around this one).

So there are 3 states: 12 active NBA, and 3 inactive NBA and/or NBDL

Lots of flexibility.

I look forward to Sean getting some more PT this year under this arrangement. :)
