President Donald Trump reorganized his National Security Council on Wednesday, removing his chief strategist, Stephen Bannon, and downgrading the role of his Homeland Security Adviser, Tom Bossert, according to a person familiar with the decision and a regulatory filing.

So you're saying that Trump knew Flynn to be so compromised / untrustworthy / incompetent that he wanted a white supremacist blogger to join the highest national security forum to keep an eye on him, while demoting the generals who actually deserved to be there?

Why would Trump put Flynn there in the first place if he knew Flynn was damaged goods?

Bannon originally served on the committee as a check against Michael Flynn before Flynn was ousted as National Security Advisor, a top White House official told NBC News. However, Bannon only attended one meeting and felt he was no longer needed in that role after the selection of H.R. McMaster as national security advisor.

McMaster, who Bannon wanted in the role, was given authority to reorganize the committee when he joined the White House, according to NBC.

The change also downgrades the role of Homeland Security advisor Thomas Bossert.

A senior White House official told NBC this was not a power struggle. The official said the White House was bringing back more of a George W. Bush-era-type NSC. The council will be more streamlined and the decision making more deliberative, the official said.

Timely semen shielding for Comrade Dump, per par, TSA. How do you explain the fact that they have now restored the director of national intelligence, CIA director, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to full participation on the NSC? Why were these guys removed when Bannon joined, and why are they back now?

My guess for what it's worth: someone in the admin got hold of info that compromised Bannon. Before the media gets hold of it and it turns into another Flynn-type debacle for Chump, they decided to act quickly and push him out.

So compromised that Bannon may still attend all meetings.

Didn't Axelrod sit in for a bit during the transition and eventually leave as well?

As I said, it's just a guess. With a guy like Trump, it's equally possible that he resented the "President Bannon" meme and wanted to clip Bannon's wings.

Either way, it's a setback to Bannon rather than some sort of well-planned voluntary change that the admin is claiming.

How is it a setback to Bannon? He attended all of one meeting, he still can attend meetings, and he still has the highest security clearance.

NATION DESPERATELY HOPES REAL REASON FOR BANNON’S EXIT WILL NOT INVOLVE SEX TAPE

http://www.newyorker.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Borowitz-Poll-Bannon-Exit-600.jpg

WASHINGTON -- A broad majority of Americans do not believe that they have heard the real reason for Steve Bannon’s abrupt removal from the National Security Council but desperately hope that, when that reason ultimately emerges, it will not involve a sex tape.

The snapshot of a nation praying for Bannon’s exit to be explained by anything but a sex tape was captured by a poll taken late on Wednesday, in which more than ninety per cent of Americans expressed their anxiety about such an outcome.

When poll respondents were asked about the real reason for Bannon’s removal, forty-two per cent said that they hoped it would involve a financial scandal, thirty-one per cent said that they hoped it would somehow relate to Russia, and zero per cent said that they hoped for a sex tape.

The terror inspired by the thought of a Bannon-based sex tape cut across party lines, with Democrats calling the idea slightly more traumatizing than Republicans did.

Finally, when asked how they would react if Bannon’s sudden departure did, in fact, turn out to involve a sex tape, an overwhelming majority “strongly agreed” with the statement “Please, please, please, God, no.”
