Pretty embarrasing. Back to Back 60 win season too. Understandable if it it is a mediocre team.

- Empty Seats
- bored and content fans etc.

Poll answers were from Fans and Media who travel consistently for away games.

I do hope you guys get the soccer team. Won't surprise me if Spurs one day will cease to exist.

No doubt. The spurs might be the third most popular road team in the league

The price we pay for 2 decades of success, tbh. After you've rung 5 times, the regular season just doesn't have the same luster. Spurs fans show up for the playoffs, though.

Hell, even this board is full of a bunch of a bunch of pissers and moaners. You'd think posters would be more excited about a 60-win, 2nd-seeded team going into the playoffs, but instead it's just the same old garbage in every thread: Parker is fat, Anderson sucks, LMA is a choker, Kawhi disappears, Gasol can't defend, Ginobili is old, etc etc etc.

Understandable. Kawhi ball is extremely boring & very low chance of winning any championships. Why should fans waste thier time and money?

After Porker and Manu hang them up I expect fan support to plummet even more. As good as Leonard is, he will NEVER be TD.

I went to this game and man what a disappointing crowd that was. I sat literally on row 24 or 25 in the 2nd level which is the row by the wall and crowd was pretty good where we were but man i would see all those empty seats up in the front and i just shook my head. Pathetic. Game 5, semifinals, possibly timmys last game, how do you not show up on time?

As much as people want to blame our success for feeling complacent, there was NO reason not to be amped up for that game. And yet, nothing.

Although i don't know how it would work, I wish they would allow seat fillers. If person doesn't show up at their seats by end of 1st quarter, allow others to take their seat for the rest of the game or until the person shows up.

This isn't unique to San Antonio. Most American sports fans are lukewarm now, across all sports. I blame smartphones.

There's a lot of empty seats because season ticket holders aren't going to games. They are trying to sell their tickets last minute because the damn league is so watered down. They only show up vs. Cavs and Warriors.

No one wants to spend money to go see 23 of the 30 NBA teams and I'm being generous with that number. Blame the imbalance across the league.

couchman

I don't live in SA anymore so I can't attend in person, but watching on TV the seats near the court are almost always half empty or worse.
That is not good for the team and for home court advantage.
We need to find a way to give those seats to people who actually show up, rather than leaving them empty when some rich season ticket holder doesn't show up.

Leetonidas

There's some truth to this. The empty seats in ATT are embarassing for a 60 win team. And as for them showing up for the playoffs....not necessarily. I remember a couple first round series I saw in person a few years back (Lakers and Jazz I think) and I remember the tickets being cheap as hell and plenty of seats were still open...

That doesnt explain a significantly better showing from Rsptors, Cavs, Warriors, thunder etc fans though.

spurs may very well have the worst home crowd out of all playoff teams. easily in lowest tier among playoff teams.

when the spurs crowd gets free shirts... what, maybe 20% wear them?

Raps are Canadian, and Canadian sports fans seem to be more involved. See Blue Jays and throwing beer on babies. Golden State and Cleveland have the two biggest stars in the game. Boston has always been a great sports town. Majority of American cities are pretty limp in fan support, though. They'll attend games, sure, but it's more out of something to do than passion for the team. Lakers are the gold standard here. Even when they were dominating, fans didn't give a shit.

Doesn't explain OKC, Utah, MIL, even indiana has a better showing. These are far worse teams.

Heck, Leonard's been consistently hitting top 7 merchandize sales since 16. Don't know if you've observed it, but he's far more popular in LALA land than San Antonio.

I don't disagree with the idea that its a casual and bandwagon sport in general though. I'm just saying relative to the spurs success, they're extremely underwhelimg even compared to other mediocre teams.

Heck Atlanta managed to get a College game like Atmosphere in their playoff games last year...Atlanta Hawks!..
