Another playoff season is finally upon us...but this time, it's different.
For the first time in 20 years, the Spurs are entering the playoffs with a big hole in the middle.
No more silky bank shots or swats below the rim. No more ball hugs or head daps. No more Fundamentals that are larger than the game.
For the first time in 2 decades, the Spurs enter the playoffs without Tim Duncan. It's a day that we all knew was coming, but nobody really wanted to think about.
For the few who dared to imagine the moment...it's doubtful any of them would've seen this coming. The Spurs, walking confidently into the playoffs without Timmy's goofy grin, with another 60-win season, owning the 2nd seed despite missing the greatest power forward to ever lace them up.
A San Antonio team....buoyed by two of the Old Guard, bolstered by a champion Spaniard and an invigoration of youth, programmed by one of the greatest basketball architects and powered, by all intents and purposes...by a robot.
Kawhi won't win the MVP, even though he deserves to be in the conversation.
But he wants more. He wants another trip to the Finals. He wants another championship. He wants to add another MVP to his resume...the Finals MVP.
A lot of people don't expect a lot out of the Spurs, and that's fine. Truth be told...they never have.
And that's exactly how we like it...
