Just like Van Gundy says the NBA is make or miss league. The Spurs lost last night because of 30% 3pt shooting vs Memphis 44%. Despite all the analyzing or criticizing of Pop it comes down to the Spurs missing a lot of open 3pt shots. With Memphis turning the ball over 22 times it took a lot to lose this game.
Ultimately they will either make enough shots or they won't. We remember the 2005 and 2007 teams as "better" than the 2004 and 2006 teams. But the main difference was that they made the shots they needed to make in crucial moments of playoff games.

Players not named Kawhi were 2 for 20 from deep in Game 4.

Most accurate post game thread. What's worse is the Spurs are getting wide open looks.

Yup. And Manu is 0-15 for the series but still getting minutes.

Ya manu is part of the problem & hitting threes at higher rate is a must. You always thought he could hit the open threes no matter how old he looks at times. Sadly not any more.

Clearly, but it also matters where you get the shots, Memphis is doing a god job making sure those shots doesn`t come from the designated spots.

This is true but the real problem is not being able to stop a shitty offensive Memphis team. Although they've probably used up their luck chucks.
The problem isn't just that Manu is missing shots. It's also that he's on the floor taking up a space and he's being left open to shoot, so he gets the ball and you can see he hesitates. He doesn't have that killer instinct like he had in the past. Manu of the past would drive to the paint, not settle for an outside look that often. He also wouldn't settle for that running bank shot from 8 feet instead of going to the rim.
So it's not just shooting. Tony scored on every trip down the floor for almost a quarter and the Spurs couldn't get a stop at the other end. Sure the Grizz had a lot of turnovers but how many of those led to fast breaks? Because you cannot have an up tempo offense with David Lee, Pau, Tony and Manu. They are all over the hill. Spurs are slowing down and playing right into Memphis' hands. Speed the game up, see if Marc and Zbo can run the floor. Get Danny, Kawhi, Patty, Simmons and Dedmon out there running like all hell.

He's not even hitting the rim though and a couple times he's missed everything. I don't get it.
When Tony is your best 3pt shooter on the floor, you're in trouble. When Kawhi sits, that's about right though since Danny is sucking as well. Danny does play great transition defense though. It's been long enough. Danny is no longer an elite 3pt shooter. He's just the remnants of one.

This is why the game opened up when Bertans was on the floor. Its not just shooting, its the ability to create space by being a legit threat, but also to put the ball on the floor when the defense shows.
Manu is a big fat 0 all the way around right now.
In a 7 or 8 minute stretch the Spurs gave up a 20 point swing. They were up 10, and ended up down 10. I'm not certain but I think Kawhi was on the bench. I don't know why Pop keep KL on the bench so long in the 2nd.

Pop is making some major and obvious mistakes forcing the main guys to play from behind. Fizdale is smart in the sense he has 2 of his best 3 players on the floor at all times. However, the first time he did not do that last night is when SA came back with that 9-0 run.
But after all of that, this thread is correct. MEM is making shots, whether open or not while SA is missing both the easy ones and tough ones despite clearly being the better shooting team.
It just comes down to that. Same with SA vs OKC last year and their drastically low uncontested shot making numbers. Just bad luck tbh..

I agree. Spurs had tons of open looks they just simply missed.

D Green and Manu have zero confidence right now.

Said this in another thread...The physical play of the grizz on every single possession is helping to drain the spurs shooters legs. It makes what Kawhi is doing even more impressive.

Spurs shot 14-28 from 3pt.
Spurs shot 14-28 from 3pt.
And they won!
Everything checks out. Open and shut case.
Bake 'em away, toys.
