View Full Version : Rockets: James Harden is the Biggest Playoff Choker of All Time
Bigger even than the Mailman. This dude plays like he's drinking Nyquil on the sidelines, just drags his lazy ass up and down the floor and spends half his energy trying to force a foul call. On defense he's just standing in one spot doing nothing, doesn't even reach for a lose ball in the playoffs.
What gives him the idea that he's that good? Can't believe he's even discussed in the MVP discussion. Sure he gets points sometimes, but he's too fucking lazy to be considered a legit threat. He just has to hope his teammates carry him, again.

OP chokes on dicks and donuts.
That underarm grab harden does has got to be a no call. They need to start watching for it next year. I understand sweeping under the arms when the guy has him arm out, but harden is reaching out to guys that have their hands down and just pulling their arm into the play then flailing when he goes up. You shouldn't reward that. It's not like the refs haven't watched film and doesn't know he does it on every single pnr.
It happens so fast that's you can't really call an offensive foul, but just swallow the whistle and he'll stop doing it.

I specifically mentioned Malone in the OP (Mailman). Welcome to the US.
Every star player gets away with shit. Kawhi double dribbles all the time for examples.
And harden takes 3 1/2 steps stepping back for a shot. We're even now, so back to Hardens grabbing defenders arms.
Look I'm ok with it occasionally, not really but I get it, but he does it every damn time. He's not even looking for his shot, he's just looking to grab a guys arm and flail. If a guys arm is out, fine. But even when they don't have their arms out, he just reaches out and pulls them in. WTF if that? :lol

Frauden has been getting carried by the refs and the mega-stacked team he's on all series, end of story.
Harden makes excuse that he rolled his ankle last game, thus he didn't have the same burst this game.
Then proceeds to say "I don't make excuses though"...
Uh, yeah you do. You just did. Idiot.
Russ: down 3-1, refuses to allow Adams to answer a direct question about the Thunder's effectiveness on offense when Russ is on the bench. Says we play as a team. Now he says it. Now. After getting 42 triple doubles and having the team box out so he could all season, now it's a team game, now (Rachael Maddow's voice here). Now Russ wants to share the outcome with the team, now.

Also, when they're not busy bricking, they're passing it back to Westbrook because they're too afraid to take wide open shots. Hard to get your teammates involved when they don't want to be involved.

How about his team going for a rebound, slamming into each other and the ball goes the other way for a fast break? Maybe thats why he goes for all the rebounds to. :lmao

What's funny about that is that Adams was asked a question that he could have pretty easily handled, but selfish Russ just had to step in. Just like on the basketball court.

I feel like James knows they cannot win the Finals, so he's now in vacay mode. He doesn't care if they win or lose, and his body language says so. He knows the money comes from the RS antics, not the playoffs because he cannot get them to the ring regardless, and despite all the banter here about how stacked his team is, he has a shitty team who just happen to be some cranky niggas who don't quit.

Not sure why Dantoni hasn't tried playing Dekker and Harrell tbh. He didn't exactly coach a great game.
Mike is a one trick pony - run down and shoot. If he loses, they didn't make enough shots at the end. They always "played well enough to win" according to him, "just didn't make shots" is his excuse, and most coaches will avoid blaming the offense in games that see both teams scoring over 100pts and 60 by the half. Defense is part of the game, Mike never accepted that.

Maybe, but the "burnt-out version" of the Warriors is still the most stacked team in history and they should have wrapped this series up in 5 games at the most.

I was rooting for Harden in this series but he choked, plain and simple. It wasn’t just the fact that he missed a ton of shots but there’s plenty of mental lapses that cost them the series.

It’s kind of crazy that a player could average 36 a game in the regular season.. Already have a regular season MVP under his belt, and be in contention for another one, yet his legacy is kind of shattered in pieces at this point. Maybe it makes it easy to understand why players are teaming up these days to try and win championships. Because that seems to be what we value the most.

But that’s Harden in a nutshell. When the going gets tough, he plays less hard and less interested. It’s the same disease Aldridge has. They will mentally check out at a random point. It could happen before the game, during the second qtr, or with 3 minutes to go in the 4th qtr of a close game. They just turn the “give a fuck” switch off. They just don’t have the championship pedigree.
With the game/season hanging by a thread and the rockets down 5 with under 30 secs, Harden is nonchalantly taking his time bringing the ball up. It’s just unbelievable.

How about when he overreacted to Donkeys running by and gave him a stiff arm for the offensive foul? FFS I think Hou was only down 2 at that point -late. Donkey is emotionally about a 7 year old. For Harden to let a 7 year old boy get inside his head and induce a crucial unforced foul, wow. This coming from a guy Harden, who purportedly lives at strip clubs. Therefore by now should have heard every possible psychological come on line known to man. (Thus some super simplistic baiting by Donkey should have been completely ignored.)

Unproven hypothetical doesn't equate to evidence. Tony Parker was a champion from the start, and will retire with 4 rings and a Finals MVP. He didn't walk away for more money while he was a viable player. Tony isn't a choker.

Of course it's unproven hypothetical. You have no proof that TP ends up with a ring if he's not tethered to Duncan/Manu.
Uh, Tony came up big in the 2013 Finals for what it's worth (though Pop gave it away). Most of his other work leans towards choking though.
That might be a bit strong. Shrinking probably the better term for it.
Mind you, it's not really my aim to trash Parker. But if I have to compare Harden vs. Parker, then I'm just not going to romanticize his impact either.

Good point. Some of the most important B-Ball stuff cannot be captured via advanced stats. For the Rockets, the emotional tone of the series hinged on the moment Durant went out. The fear was palpable: no more excuses, you gotta deliver.

Doesn't work too well in the postseason once the refs get tight with the food stamps awarded and those numbers dry right up.
He's the best I've ever seen at exploiting an obvious flaw in how the game is played. He does it non-stop. On every trip, if he drives, that head flops back a couple times and his beard even accentuates the movement so he can get a foul called. Often he is fouled, but most other players don't get that call if they go down the middle of the paint in heavy traffic. Eric Gordon was grabbed and still couldn't get a call. Harden would have flung his head back and the whistle would have sounded.
CP3 tries that shit but he's too mentally retarded to do it right, and it comes off looking like a skit.

Harden absolutely deserves blame, but certainly in conjunction with Nash's decision to play him so much the last 3 games. I'm guessing the argument would be that him sitting on the bench for long stretches likely makes him tighten up. But give even 15-20 of his minutes to Shamet and/or Mike James, they probably score more, maybe even play better overall.
There was a stretch in the early or middle of the 4th where Harden decided to put his imprint on the series and took three straight three pointers with pretty much no one else touching the ball. And not like he was feeling it. And not great shots either. Not wide open. Not in the flow of a set. He clanked all three. I also believe Milwaukee took a lead around the same time.
Sure his mere presence and threat was something, at least for game 5. But that presence was clearly not as much of a threat after game 5. He essentially was a ball dominant role player not really giving much to the team. He's like the bad version of Reggie Jackson.
