Whites now a minority in Texas

- In four out of the 50 U.S. states, white residents are in the minority.
Hawaii, New Mexico and California have been for years, and now Texas is also, according to new Census Bureau data.
The new figures show that the 11.3 million persons of color residing in Texas represent 50.2 percent of the state's total population, estimated at 22.5 million.
Of these, 35 percent are Hispanic. Blacks make up 11 percent.
The state's Hispanic population has increased by three percentage points since 2000, while the black population has remained the same, according to the figures.
The rapid Latino increase in Texas is driven not just by immigration but by high birthrates, says Steve Murdock, a University of Texas at San Antonio demographer.
"The future of Texas is very much tied to the future of its minority populations," Murdock says. "Closing the gaps in education, and subsequently in income, is important for the private sector and for the public sector as well. That's what I think is the major challenge presented by these statistics."
He points out that Hispanic and black household incomes are about two-thirds less than those of whites. In addition, compared to 30 percent of whites, only 15 percent of blacks and less than 9 percent of Hispanics in Texas have a college degree.
Murdock predicts that half of the state's population will be Hispanic sometime between 2025 and 2035.
Nationally, Latinos represent the fastest-growing group of color, having had an increase three times as high as the rest of the population between 2003 and 2004.

It just amazes me that Texas gained like 4 million people in 10 years.
In old times, there were less than 30,000 people in the entire Republic of Texas (might want to check on that #, but close).

Plus, now Texas can start claiming that it has one of the most affluent "minority" populations of any state.

Are Canary Islanders and other pure-Spanish Hispanics in Texas considered white or Hispanic or both?
Is a person with three Anglo grandparents and one Comanche grandparent white or a person of color?
How about a person of African lineage who speaks Spanish at home?

I asked my friend Thad after our tennis match. He and his wife Tiffany are trying to have kids.
They make love every month when she ovulates, nice, clean, missionary style, and he shoots the white stuff in the sink because Tiffany finds it too icky and messy, just like always -- you know, she doesn't want to stain the linens.
So far they haven't had success. Maybe they have a fertility problem?

I saw a whole 1 hr special on this family on Discovery Health.
they are pentacostal or someother type of down home christian.
the momma homeschools all the kids, and she makes thier clothes herself so that they don;t where anything too flashy. She wants them to show off thier countenances. The girls only where white socks and the boys only where black socks.
They are building a new bigger house on some land they own and it's huge. It'll have 9 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. ANd they are building it THEMSELVES.
Also they couldn;t find a church i ntheir area that has thier same beliefs so they hold a church meetign in thier own home with 2 other giant sized families.
and all thier kids names start with J.
jedediah, jeremiah, johanna, john.. etc etc.
the mom said she;d liek more kids... as many as god will give her.
