Shaquille O'Neal's desire to make a big impact in his first season with the Heat is showing up in his waistline.

The 7-foot-1 O'Neal told reporters in Louisiana this week that he has lost 24 pounds since his trade to Miami from the Los Angeles Lakers.

"When I met with Pat, I was at 355. I will be at 325 or below when I come to camp [in early October]," O'Neal said. "I've always been the type of player to do what I'm told to do."

O'Neal said the Heat and general manager Pat Riley want him to weigh 325 pounds.

We should do a prediction contest for Shaqs weight.

shaq is a fool
he would not lose the weight for the lakers because they would not give him the max but he will lose weight for the heat:rolleyes

He hasn't been in shape for 5 years in LA. What a slap in the face to all Laker fans and his former teammates if he comes into shape this season and plays closer to the upper range of his abilities.

The rafters should be loaded with boos when he comes to LA.

Damn, he looks pretty skinny.

Damn, he looks more like a insanely ripped KG then Shaq who just lost only 25 or so pounds. I read an article the other day that if 335 can look svelte on anyone, it looks svelte on shaq and i concur.

Look out.

TiMVP, your forgetting that the lakers have the stellar defensive prescence of Vlade guarding him down low. They'll be fine.

The 1st time Shaq play against the Lakers he will have one of the best games of his career. If he doesn't get thrown out or
gets injured. He will also taunt the lakers during the game.

Not even close, but he does look better than he has in years.

Shaq is going to demolish the Lakers when he plays us.

And I find the Laker fans on this board who chastise Shaq to be sort of lame. Blasting Shaq, while supporting Kobe??? bleh.

I'm going to miss Shaq, and I hope he does well down in Miami.

Wow...quite interesting. Shaq nor Kobe were my favorite Lakers. I've talked about Shaq's lack of motivation to get in shape for quite a while now. I've also talked about the fact that when Kobe had Shaq at times he would try to do too much. Try to be heroic. Yet i supposedly support Kobe and I dont support Shaq.

I dont think anybody can disagree with me when i say that Kobe would work in the offseason to get better. Would shaq? Absolutely positively NOT. How many times did the lakers ask Shaq to come into training camp in shape?

Shaq was motivated when Phil first came to the Lakers. He was a man beast that year. But does one year make up for the fact that he feels the offseason he can slouch on a couch and eat krispy kreme donuts till he explodes?

I can not stand Kobe Bryant and his superior attitude! But one thing he does do is he comes into training camp ready to go. He has a work ethic that Shaq does not.

I'm sorry you feel that I'm just dissing Shaq now because he left the lakers. Sorry this has bothered me for quite a while and i have voiced my concerns about this.

Shaq wants to act like hes the man and he isnt hurt by what happened. Give me a break the dude is going out and making sub par raps about Kobe. The Lakers wanted him as second fiddle and he couldnt handle that. Well Shaq now you have the motivation to come into training camp in shape. Will it last? I highly doubt it.

If the Lakers are not able to win the title this upcoming season (which I don't think they can), then I hope Miami does. Because even though he left, Shaq has always been, and will always be, my favorite player.

bingo, which is why I'm oh so happy to have him on my fantasy team this year...

I've never been a huge Shaq fan. I love what he does when he's motivated, but absolutely hate his freaking lazy attitude and the fact that he blamed EVERYONE but himself for a subpar performance.

I completely expected him to come into camp in the best shape he's been in years, but I also know that the motivation to stay in shape will quickly disappear. ESPECIALLY if he wins a championship this year, which I personally think he has a snowball's chance in hell of doing. If Shaq, Kobe, and Payton couldn't do it, no way can Shaq, Wade and Jones.

Ducks, I would root for the Lakers. I'm a Laker fan until the day I die.

I just hope it never comes to Lakers vs Heat in the finals. That would be very hard for me to watch.
