What use do these guys serve?

Somone in that bench should be aware enough to know about the situation.

Seriously, Messina has sucked so bad. He doesn't connect with young players like Ime, overplays Manu, and is too much of a yes man.

They're just Pop's personal fluffers.

Said this before. For his supposed pedigree, Messina has been such an underwhelming addition to coaching stuff; he's shown zero evidence he could influence Pop or talk him out of his stubborn ways ..

What are they up to?

Mrs Bubblegum is doing her nails in the locker room. Ime is chatting it up with the guys in the shower room, messina is making a Pizza for Pop in the cafeteria and Borrego is chewing on some grass by the parking lot

Implying we could know whether or not they influence Pop or not.

Most likely they're too scared shitless to say anything, though. Pop rules that locker room with an iron fist.

Assistant coaches are essential to the head coaches success..

I've been with three different staffs and it's insane how much work the assistants do for the team/coach with plays, practices, scheme etc.

Pop to me seems like a coach that heavily leans on assistants and this could be one of his worst staffs yet (chemistry experience, etc)

messina is not a good coach anymore. his good days have passed. he was awful last years in europe.

Don't know where the buck stops for this team/franchise, but losing a 3rd consecutive series from up 2-1 should at least allow for some questions to be asked about the coaching staff performance..
