View Full Version : Netflix Rating System
Used to be 5 stars - now it's a "thumbs up" style. Do you feel that's because no one watches the 1 star movies?
I think Netflix knows that people tend to go 5 stars or 1 star, like or dislike (just look at the Amazon product ratings or IMDB movie ratings, all or nothing). So perhaps that doesn't give viewers the true picture of how others actually felt about it. But there's no quick fix for it, so they use thumbs up or thumbs down. I think Netflix should have high level reviewers who rate the movies. That way you get the same general crowd and their response can be more trustworthy than just "everyone hates today's Steven Seagal", which they do.
I get it that many here just rob movies from whatever box you're using so "lol Netflix" but it does exist and so there it is.
The new system isn't working.
I read they changed it because Amy Schumer's shitty stand up commedy special got roasted.

Now movies I actually like and think are solid have a 50% which is bullshit. If I were to go by it, I'd never watch a movie as almost all of the good ones have a 50-60% and shitty ones are in the mid 80s to 90s so I'm just not even going by it anymore.

Schindler's List had like one star. :lol Though that may have been before the change.
Netflix, IMDB, and other rating systems where it's based on random voting is always going to be worthless. If anything, an extremely low rating gets me curious enough to watch sometimes.

You think they changed this specifically because of one stand-up special, and you read this on Breitbart?

Probably not the reason, no.
And no, I just grabbed the first link that popped up when I searched for it. I read it somewhere else. Cant remember exactly where.

That Breitbart article is symbolic of how far people have their heads up their ass with politics nowadays. Everyone gets super into this left/right paradigm of looking at things and then uses that to explain every single thing.

Exodus' rating system is much better
I prefer the 5 star system IF and only if the ratings are from trusted users who aren't shills or random idiots. Like Rotten Tomatoes, I don't always agree with their ratings but at least you know how they think.

I found the Netflix rating system to be pretty accurate, at least to my tastes. I hate this new fucking one and the recommendations they send me are fucking ponderous. As if being fat, ugly, unfunny and looking more like a potato than a "thick skank" per her schtick was enough to hate that miserable Schumer khunt... Wouldn't mind one bit if 2017 pulls a 2016 on her.

So, it's just a big fucking coincidence that a uber libtard company changed it in the wake of their politics getting bitch slapped? Pull your own damn head out of your ass.

Yes, they had been planning for months before hand. You sound kind of retarded with your right wing conspiracies behind every coincidence or occurrence that happens

Wait, people are seriously saying Netflix changing its rating system was a liberal conspiracy? :lol
Cant wait to hear about how George Soros was behind this one tbh.

The article I read was people like the simple yes/no option or that works best. It's like how Tinder just has the swipe left/right and how Okcupid just basically ripped that off now and got rid of almost all their other stuff including their five star ratings when you go there now basically the home page is pics with a thumbs up down. But what do I know I've been inflicted with severe libtardation so my judgements are obviously tainted and worthless

It was an easy switch weeks after they got bitch slapped. The company changed it a shittier system because they're the same butthurt libtards that you represent.

The system is dog shit, dick wipe. This is what happens when butthurt morons such as yourself make decisions based on petty politics. Netflix says Pirates Of The Carribean is a 96 percent match for me. Yea, a three hour Disney movie is what I fucking want to watch? They might have already had a beta system in the works. Companies are always toying with ideas. This lame shit came out right after they were bitch slapped. And like the true libtard dickheads they are, they won't be changing it back to what the people want. They undoubtedly have the cancerous too big to fail mindset.

You're really this angry over Netflix changing its rating system :lol
I Did read that if you thumb down a movie that that movie would dissapear from your netflix forever. I thought that was bullshit so I tried to thumb down some retarded movie that was on my watched list forever and the next time I launched Netflix it wasn't there.
I guess it got that going for it.

I don't get the star system. Started watching a series called, Happy Valley. A BBC show that won some awards recently and beat out the Netflix series in Britain. When I started the show two days ago, it had 4 stars. Yesterday, it was down to 2.
Great show by the way.

Yeah, I'm the one who's coming off like a political nutjob here
I just noticed it in passing. I had no idea it was a major conspiracy in the same boat with the JFK assassination and Baird's price fixing. I felt like they did it because they lack content and some marketing asshole had the brilliant idea of rearranging the ingredients and calling it a different dish.. like "just remove the ratings and just like that you have all these new, interesting titles that no one ever watches because of the 1 star ratings.. suddenly they are interested and can decide for themselves".
Hey dipshit, wasn't that how the ratings got started, like someone watched and decided it sucked? So you wanted to spare me the time of watching a shitty movie and you shared the ratings with me?
Netflix used to think more like Amazon, like a distributor of products but they've started creating their own shit so now they have to avoid the ratings system lest they fall victim to it.

Uhh, how would a thumbs-up thumbs-down rating system benefit them? Seems like it'd be easier for a kneejerk negative reaction to one of their shows to snowball.

Because anything over 50% is a thumbs up.
Also, because they now have an entire cache of unrated movies you need to watch to know if you like it or not, and to push you to watch, they match to you! That's bigFlix telling you what you want to watch, instead of some socialism driven libstarred rating system.
How does it not benefit them? How does it benefit me?

I have no idea man. I usually just go by a combination of the description+ the rating. I start it up and if i'm not impressed 30 minutes in i bail. I figure this won't change my viewing experience very much.
I can't do 30m. If I feel like FFWDing the thing to get to the point, it's not worth watching.
