It's amazing Kawhi is in discussion for both dpoy and MVP. But he'll probably win neither.

I don't mind if Kawhi wins MVP and someone else wins DPOY.

Lebron's not a finalist which is crazy but hard to argue he's not fourth. Then again, he doesn't care about the RS

Looked it up. First year of the award, apparently. Honestly if I was a coach I'd probably prefer getting that one instead of the media's award.

Btw, in the pyramid TNT put the Spurs on top for MVP and CotY. They put them in the center during the broadcast. I wonder if that has any meaning.

MVP is a regular season award, he wasn't a top three MVP player during the regular season.

All the fan favorites win this year to ring in the first NBA awards show in order to keep the casuals interested.

Spolstra wins COTY. Russell wins MVP. Embiid wins ROTY. Alphabet wins MIP. Donkey wins DPOY.

Book it.

so predictable right?
I hope next season it's Kiwi's MVP season. :toast All these Lasoft/drama will add to his narrative bc he's not going to let the team fall. (It will help him in the leadership department too, where I think he's grown up as well, but as more and more young players join the team it will be evident).

TimDunkem

That's what I'm hoping happens next year since the awards this year are a total farce.

I know it is a long shot but there is a chance that the KingSlayer can backdoor his way into MVP tonight. He was getting serious consideration from the best player on the team with the best record of players under consideration. Also there is the fact that the Harden types probably sandbagged Russ, just in case their guy could win and the Russ types sandbagged the Beard so their guy could win. So Kiwi's guys vote him first and he probably gets all of the 2nd place votes, that might be enough to win it all or at least get him 2nd place for the 2nd straight year. The only downside was there were a lot of Harden defectors at the end of the year when he tailed off and Russ continued.

TimDunkem

As much as it pains me to say it...Kawhi has no shot. Russ has the MVP locked up. The casuals love their empty stats.

Pretty sure they already calculated a couple of months ago that Westbrook won already, based on voters that revealed their vote tbh. The 'triple double' narrative really drove the idiot vote this year, a la the 'Hate LeBron' vote that got Derrick Rose an MVP.

Although, I do agree he probably would've had the odds stacked against him. Pop would've played Patty out of loyalty...

Brogdon beat out Dellavedova for the starting PG spot, and Delly is a better PG than Patty. Poop would be fucking stupid to play Patty over Brogdon.

Seriously, he would be in the running despite being a Spur. The guy was NBA-ready, is a defensive standout, competed his butt off and would've been a better starting PG than Patty.

:pop: "It wouldn't have been fair"
Mills and JSimms both in contract seasons were not about to lose minutes to rook Brogdon...
Manu got paid 14 mill, he's a legend... not going to get benched for Brogdon. Danny and Tony? Yea not going to get benched for Brodgon.

Only guy that he could have wrestled for time was JSimms...

Think about it. He still lives with his momma and loves her so.

He is socially awkward with a throwback hairdo.

Can someone tell me how Donkey Face deserved DPOY over Kawhi?

I still don't get people that say he's better defender than Kawhi. I'd rate him about 3rd. Kawhi, Rudy Gobert and then Draymond. The thing is he also is allowed to shove and push people. If he wasn't allowed to do that (Kawhi and Rudy don't get anywhere near that much leeway), then how good would his defense actually be?

All these awards are jokes most of the time. I mean, as much as I dislike Harden, he should have probably won MVP due to his team having a superior record to Westbrook's, actually Kawhi should have won it, but that wasn't going to happen with the stats Westbrook and Harden had. Just like defensive player of the year award, the guy that won should have been 3rd at best. Those ridiculous clear out rebounds that Westbrook gets and also those assists where the offensive player gets to dribble more than a few times before scoring shouldn't be counted either. The NBA has gone into the shitter and they are trying to manufacture things to make more money.

Now the fun part, figuring out the craziest voters...

- Richard Walker of Gaston Gazette: had Kawhi as fifth overall MVP candidate and led the him off All-D teams in favor of Green, Towns, Davis, Giannis and also had Lillard (!)

- Marcelo Noguiera of Ole was the one who put IT on second team All D (he also had LMA on there for what that's worth)

- Lisa Shen Yeng of Tencent (the Chinese WhatsApp) had Dwight Howard and Eric Gordon on first team All D. Rockets and ex-Rockets must get tons of love in China still.
