Finally! After years of speculation as to who would take over for the departed Pierce Brosnan in the 21st James Bond film CASINO ROYAL, Daniel Craig (LAYER CAKE) was officially announced as the sixth Bond at a London press conference. Craig arrived via speedboat (right) at the event attended by CASINO director Martin Campbell and producer Michael G. Wilson. Here are some soundbytes from Craig on taking the iconic role:

On taking over such a well-known franchise: "It's a huge challenge. Life is about challenges and this is one of the big ones as an actor."

On how he celebrated the news: "I had a couple of Martinis when I found out."

On why he accepted the offer: "We've got an incredible script - that's my first line of attack. Once I'd read that I knew I had to go for it."

On the different tone of CASINO: "Together with Martin, I want to make the best film we can, the most entertaining film we can. It's not a question of redifining, it's a question of taking it somewhere maybe where it's never gone before."

Wilson added that neither Q for Ms. Moneypenny will appear in the film but no word as to whether Judi Dench would reprise her role as M. Craig recently wrapped filming on Steven Spielberg's MUNICH and will begin filming CASINO in January with a script by Paul Haggis (MILLION DOLLAR BABY). The five other actors who've played James Bond in the past were Brosnan, Sean Connery, Roger Moore, George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton.

He's definitely gonna be a good Bond. Layer Cake was an incredible movie and he played it great.

He's definitely more of a back to the old school Bond. Not unlike Brosnan. Goldeneye was good so was TWINE....but towards the end the Bond just got too flashy.

I think he'll be great.

from what I've read they are going to go more Bourne Identity with the new Bonds. No more cool gadgets and the such. He's also supposed to be a younger/newer agent. Hope they have good makeup.

the worst bond film ever made..... the new Bond guy was a fromer male model & it was his first acting gig.
Also it wwas the movie where bond gets married. :wtf huh??? at least they killed the bitch in the end.

my point is - if the franchise could survive that tsunami sized disaster i'm sure it'll recover from whatever damage the blond bond fruit throws it's way.

but the actual skin on his face is ... well.. kinda .. OLD looking . and not in a distinguished way.

Which actors would you have picked? I may have gone with that guy who played Batman in Batman Begins, or George Clooney..........or hell Will Smith (who says Bond can't be black? :))

the more i think about it ....

for a "blonde" bond I would've gone with Kevin McKidd. He plays Lucius Vorenus on ROME.....even if he died his hair a brown or chestnut for the role he'd be a way better choice.


not george clooney anymore... maybe 6 years ago. But he's past the Bond age now. that be kinda sad to se him as Bond - kinda like when Connery came back for Goldfinger. Never shoulda happened.

I vote for Shamaar Moore too, hes a good actor, as hes in Criminal Minds on TV.

Got the looks, young, coolness and badassness at the same time.

This sucks.

Should have gone to Hugh Jackman (Wolverine). I give this guy two movies as Bond tops, but he looks destined to go down as a Bond for one movie.

I admit that the actor looks 5x's better with the scruff on.
But James Bond is not a scruffy man. He is slick, cool, calm, collected.... and beard free.

plus -he looks even older with it.so whatever +'s the beard gave him in looks get discounted for age.

Bond Genital Conundrum

James Bond movie-makers are struggling over the new version of Casino Royale - because the story features a scene where 007's testicles are hit with a carpet beater. :lmao

Producers want the 2006 movie to be as close to Sir Ian Fleming's novel as possible, so have committed to recreating the scene in which Bond is held captive by baddie Le Chiffre.

In the novel, the villain tells Bond - to be played by Daniel Craig - "I intend to continue attacking the sensitive parts of your body until you answer my question."

Director Martin Campbell says, "I'm still not sure how I will film that scene."
