On December 4, a baseless conspiracy theory inspired a North Carolina man to drive to a DC pizza parlor to “investigate” what he thought was a child-sex trafficking ring.
Brandishing an assault rifle and revolver, with ammunition strapped to his chest, the 28-year-old Edgar Maddison Welch terrified employees and patrons as he walked in and fired four rounds into a closed door, luckily hitting no one, before being apprehended by police.
Today, U.S. District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson rejected Welch’s plea for leniency and sentenced him to four years in prison,
