With the Draft in the books it's time to look forward to the Summer League. Should be a fun squad to watch again this year.

Teams will play three preliminary games between July 7-11 before being seeded in a tournament that starts on July 12 and concludes with the Championship Game on Monday, July 17. Each team will play a minimum of five games in Las Vegas.

SPURS SCHEDULE
July 8th - Spurs vs. Heat 7pm (ESPNU)
July 9th - Spurs vs. 76ers 9:30 pm (ESPN2)
July 11th - Spurs vs. Trailblazers 3pm (NBATV)

Hopefully there's no scrub stashes taking up mandatory minutes like the last few years (Lorbek, Jean-Charles, etc...)

I want to see some hidden gems like Simmons and Neal, not RC's busts.

A record 24 NBA teams will participate in a tournament-style format that culminates with a Championship Game on July 17 at 10 p.m. ET, broadcast for the first time on ESPN. Last year’s event, won by the returning champion Chicago Bulls, set records for total attendance, single-day attendance, combined viewership across ESPN and NBA TV, and traffic to the NBA’s social media platforms.

ESPN will present all 67 games from Las Vegas across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and the ESPN App, including 35 on its linear television channels. NBA TV will air 28 games, starting with the league’s opener on July 7, when the Toronto Raptors meet the New Orleans Pelicans at 6 p.m. ET. In total, 63 games from Las Vegas will air across ESPN and NBA TV’s linear channels – a Summer League record.

The guy has a dream. I would love to seem him earn a roster spot in SL somewhere. I know it's not really the purpose of the SL, but if he has the game to compete, I hope he gets the chance.

Either way, that's a pretty amazing physique for a 61 year old guy. I can think of some young guys that could really benefit from being in that kind of shape.

yep Fathead and JSimms were looking like 6th year seniors in the SL. The other parents were complaining and asking for copies of birth certificates. Dijon, Forbes the rookies and the stach squad will have to make up the team this year. Too bad we don't have a JayMychal Green type in the Turos this year. I always thought he would eventually make the squad now he is a FA the Grizz are willing to let Zbo go to keep.

No doubt he looks to be in fantastic physical shape. I wonder how much hard, full court work he has been putting in. Most older gentlemen would struggle with their ability to go more than 2 or 3 minutes full court without grabbing their shorts. You also tend to lose your speed as you age. The mind thinks "I can do it," but the body doesn't usually cooperate very well as you age.

Murray should look like a men among boys this time. Sometimes the SL games are played so sloppy even good players look not so good. But he really should stand out.

Cory Jefferson looked really good in D-League last year. He should also tear up SL competition.

Bertans? I just hope he doesn't get into a scrum with one of the kids, and get back into Pop's doghouse.

Chinook
06-30-2017, 12:03 PM
I don't see much in terms of two-way potential on that roster. Murray's the youngest player by more than a year-and-a-half. Livio should be one, but I doubt Lalanne or Hanlan would do that. I guess James Robinson? So many oldies. I like that if it means that everyone is going to come in and play the right way as role-players like they did in 2015. I don't like it if this turns into a bunch of mid-20s guys desperately chucking up bricks while the real roster guys twiddle their thumbs or just join them.

Yep. That's what I have been saying since mid-season. If Pop coached the Packers, Rodgers would still be backing up Favre.

a couple of forwards that went through Austin: CoJe, and LJC... Bertans then all the guards that are in the main team. Should be a fun, stacked team.

I also wanted to see Milutinov. He must have an agreement to come in next season.

What's Early been doing? I remember being interested in him in that draft after a few posters here said the Spurs should draft him.
Early has been out of the league since being robbed and shot in the knee after leaving a strip club in queens:
https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/05/02/nyregion/knicks-cleanthony-early-3-arrested.html

then rehabbing that I think he had a hamstring issue but I'm not sure. I really hope he's back. The robbery/shooting was savage and this kid really could be good if healthy. He was a 6-8 wing that was athletic and could shoot.

Wow, there's a name I haven't seen in a long time. I went and found a "where are they now" article after I read your comment. Ummm... I don't think Alfredrick is in quite as good of shape as the guy in that story. Once a Spur, always a Spur. But I don't think Alfredrick is making a comeback. :lol

Cool that you brought him up, though. He only played a small role for one season. Why does his name stick with me so clearly?

Oh, right, that's the shtick around here. He stuck in my mind because people here talk about him being the Spurs' worst draft pick ever. He was one of the worst first round picks, for sure - but not the worst. Remember Oliver Robinson? You wouldn't. And he was drafted just a couple of years before Alfredrick Hughes. Willie Peck?

Back then, a lot of good players weren't drafted until the second and third rounds. Maybe not stars, but guys who played a lot of minutes for a lot of years. The year the Spurs picked Hughes, Mario Elie was the 160th pick, in the 7th Round. And there were plenty of busts in the first couple of rounds.

Yeah he had talent until he got drafted to the Knick...Homeboy was our 4:00am during regular season at a strip club with his girl where he off course got his chains and grill taken away from him. The bad thing is then they knee capped his ass so putting zero chance of him making team

The funny shit was on the 911 call the asked him if he was ok he sad he was bleeding a little but his lady said he was a bleeding a lot and he was so looking forward to "Thrashing Her Pussy" latter tonight and didn't think he would be able to do that........:)..lol...........

I was thinking the same thing. But honestly, the kid won't need much luck. He looks to be arguably the best overall guard the Spurs have. That might speak more to the lack of talent in the backcourt rather than his ability, but it is what it is.

They still have bigs. Milutinov may well think being a third-stringer in a non-competitive international year makes less sense than trying to make the jump to the NBA. Bringing him over should be the top priority for the Spurs right now.

Imo Milutinov is on the cusp. One more year abroad to establish himself would be best I think but we need bigs and if he does establish himself and comes next year, he is not bound by the first round contract and could be a lot more expensive. I think ultimately he comes next year to lock him up on the cheap for at least four years. As for Hanga, he's ready now. With his skill set there's not much more he can accomplish in Europe.

While he is not elite athletically by any means he is definitely more athletic than Splitter. He catches lobs etc. He has potential as a role playing starting 5 or an energy big off the bench. But he has a similar skill set to Dedmon as a finishing big. He's a pretty solid passer like Tiago on the roll. Don't know much about his hands. But he's a solid young prospect. Blue collar guy like Splitter.

What's encouraging is that he has improved a lot this year, he was a bench player at the begining of the season with Olympiakos and he finished as a starter with some good games.
