So far he sits over 240 M$ of contract earnings during his career. I think he is fine with what he earned already, he is trying to help mavs stay competitive. Mavs fucked up a lot during his career but they also treated him well. I like Dirk; but it's getting a bit sad to watch him rely on some guy on a ten-day contract over himself because he's just slowed down too much. Really, for those only wanting to see Dirk play at a pretty high level, he should've retired after the season before last. If he had gone out right after the championship, people would be talking about him as a top 5 player even. He's definitely hanging on too long.
