A majority of Republicans in a new survey think colleges and universities have a negative effect on the U.S.

The Pew Research Center poll finds 58 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents think colleges and universities hurt the country.

Just 36 percent of Republicans think they have a positive effect.

In contrast, a large majority of Democrats, 72 percent, say colleges and universities have a positive effect on the country.
Overall, slightly more than half of the public, 55 percent, thinks colleges and universities help the U.S., according to the survey.

I could see that if your argument had to do with the crippling debt that it leaves most college graduates with but I suspect these results tie more to the perception that kids are going off to college and gettin' a buncha librul ideas in them heads, SJW's, Antifa, etc.

To the extent they are turning out thoughtful people who will become productive citizens, they are good for the country. To the extent they are turning out adult children with no marketable skills and large student debt, they are harmful.

Well, they can't force students to major in the SJW arts, but they do offer such shitty fields of study.

What percent of college degrees would you estimate fall into the "SJW arts" category?

Yeah, the evil researchers and scientists occupying colleges have always been scheming against real Americans. Like how they all coordinated with each other across continents to come up with the climate change hoax - thankfully a bunch of courageous billionaires and selfless oil companies are thwarting their plan.

Can you provide the link again? That one is flakey. I'd like to examine the survey.

I don't suspect anything at this point. It's an opinion piece based off of an unlinked survey/poll. I'm glad it's a Pew poll tho. Those guys are pretty straight ahead.

Among Republicans, nearly half of those with family incomes of less than $30,000 (46%) say colleges and universities have a positive effect, compared with only about a third (32%) of those with higher incomes.

im sure that's true. and some of the dumbest people i know are drop outs

but when you look at the big picture, average salaries go like this

professional degrees > doctoral degrees > masters degrees > bachelors degrees > associate degrees > high school diplomas > no high school diplomas

that's not to say there are no poor people with professional degrees or no rich people that dropped out of high school. just pointing out the big picture instead of anecdotes

I don't know about negative impact but I'd think someone that gets a degree in history and doesn't teach probably has at best a neutral impact on society.

Plus college debt
