Reviews aren't out yet, but advance screening buzz is calling this a masterpiece. Got lots of love from Edgar Wright and Rian Johnson.

On the other hand, every Nolan movie gets called a masterpiece before it comes out. His last two movies were extremely flawed. Either way I'm in.

I was really down for it until i saw it was rated PG13. It can still be good but I feel like if it's a war movie it should be R rated. I'll probably still see it though

Reviews are in. 96% on RT, alot of "masterpiece" talk in the reviews too.

Looks like he's not concerned about telling this story in a more raw, bloody way.

This is how he puts it..

“All of my big blockbuster films have been PG-13. It’s a rating I feel comfortable working with totally. Dunkirk is not a war film. It’s a survival story and first and foremost a suspense film. So while there is a high level of intensity to it, it does not necessarily concern itself with the bloody aspects of combat, which have been so well done in so many films. We were really trying to take a different approach and achieve intensity in a different way. I would really like lots of different types of people to get something out of the experience.”

http://screenrant.com/christopher-nolan-dunkirk-rating-pg-13/

I trust him. He has a point which I found to be facinating and hadn't even thought about. Most if not all of his movies are PG rated and most of them are epic.

Just saw it. Incredible. Maybe the most intense movie I've ever seen. And if you hate Christopher Nolan, you'll probably hate this one, too.

Honestly, this movie doesn't need the R rating. While most war movies would seem silly with a PG-13, I think he captures the horror of the situation just fine. The soldiers not cussing like soldiers may be the more awkward thing, but this movie has so little dialogue even that isn't a big deal (plus they drop a few F bombs anyways).

More a movie purist issue than anything. Nolan's one of the last directors who still makes movies with film, instead of digitally. Other than seeing the movie on a true IMAX screen, the 70mm thing is for marketing. I saw Dunkirk projected digitally and I saw it in 70mm, and while 70mm does have more of an old school movie look, it really made hardly any difference.

Thanks for explaining that..

Does it have anything to do with how wide the aspect ratio is? I thought I read somewhere it was also super wide..
