Two years
In two years,
Kawhi is going to be playing with two 40 year olds Latinos, a 35 year old fat starter, a 37 year old Parker and a 33 year old who cant dribble.
:lmao
Go to LA kawhi

He's not leaving SA...at least for two more years...and probably longer...maybe until his career is over.
Since the late 80s, most of the truly great players who started their NBA careers in SA have stayed in SA.

Rudy Gay will be mostly at SF, and Leonard will be mostly at SG by the end of the season. Gay at PF and LMA at center will be a disaster.
It could work depending on the match up

Rudy won't average more than 22 minutes a game through december. He will be eased in. Pops not putting a heavy load on him to start the season.
I think token starting joffrey to start the season is a viable option. If he responds well and plays decent, then pop can be patient with gays minutes for sure to start the season.
If pop is dying to play small ball, start kyle at the beginning of the season.

A very interesting take on Joff. Everybody is worrying about whether he can cut it as a 3rd big, and you have him getting some starts. With Rudy on board, circumstances are very different from last season, or I might expect Pop to give him starts at mid-season as he did with Deadman. So, I wouldn't be surprised if you were right about Shirley.

shoulda been a 4 year deal, tbh... oh well Only four! Ye of little faith! Truth be told Manu coming back is the best news we've had this summer...Rudy Gay not withstanding, who was much needed.
People complaining that Manu took Hanga's spot :lol
Hanga isn't the missing link to a contender. In fact, Manu will be more valuable for this year's team (as he proved against Houston last year) and even if Manu were a dropoff, you accept that given what he's sacrificed for this team. And before someone complains about his $14mm last season, it LITERALLY didn't matter. Without Manu, the Spurs likely lose two home playoff games that helped pay part of that salary (plus the WCF appearance and a moment we will all remember in Game 5) and put butts in the seats in the RS post-Timmy.
Considered all together, you now get Mills+Gasol+Manu for $29 million both next year and the year after. Not bad. The Gasol deal is a bad overpay, but only really hurts next offseason which unfortunately is the last offseason of cheap Kawhi unless they string out his extension.

AKA, you've been proven wrong but don't want to admit it. :lmao
No, AKA that I just took you off my ignore list like a month ago and would rather just agree to disagree than put you back on it so soon.
Let's be clear:
Rotation wise, Gay replaces Lee and part of Dedmon (Lauvergne/Bertans replace the other part), Anderson replaces Simmons and Paul replaces Anderson.
This is meaningless. Players "replacing" others in the rotation implies that Pop basis his units off some objective set of conditions and not the players themselves. When you say something like "Anderson replaces Simmons", it sounds tone deaf. As if they weren't fighting for one spot all last year. There wasn't a Simmons "role" that Kyle is now slipping into, unless you think he's going to be in competition for minutes at the backup three with himself.
Manu's particular role is a factor of himself and his and Pop's relationship. If he were off the team, Pop would have to reconsider everything. He wouldn't just tell Kyle "You're now taking Manu's 18.7 mpg, but that means you'll be sitting a third of the season; Paul, you got Simmons' 1300 minutes unless Hanga beats you out." That's what you're implying, and it's just foolish. As for your desire to say top-eight over top-10, that difference amounted to one minute per game and 100 minutes total. That's it. It was a very insignificant difference that you tried to blow up into a real distinction.

This is ... optimistic. And it's probably time to start pivoting to optimism anyway. I'm so fucking tired of hearing about what Manu sacrificed, though. Dude's been paid $130 Million from the Spurs. Where the line would fall for him to be paid fairly would likely be right around there. The Spurs paid $14 Million for a block. Fine. I'm glad Manu stepped up and hope he does for as long as the team has him. But it was a terrible deal that DID affect the team financially, even though it likely didn't change their plans.
Manu et al for $29 Million would be great if they were signed to one-year deals with team options next summer. Of course, they aren't, and it's the future lack of flexibility that is the real killer here, as well as the Spurs' new willingness to piss away cap space with dead money.

Explain how it affected the team financially? It had literally no impact on last offseason. The alternative was signing a league min guy to take his place. He was not worth $14mm on the court, but still had a net positive impact and probably was still a positive net value to the franchise. It's hard to quantify what it meant in terms of ticket sales ... but a team without Duncan AND Manu would have taken a hit. Maybe not $14 million of value to the Holts but certainly something.

The Spurs used cap space last off-season. That included Manu's $6 Million--ish hold. The difference between Manu and no Manu was the difference between Gasol's slot and a max slot. While the Spurs likely didn't want to go for a guy like Whiteside (who may not have wanted to leave MIA in the first place), to say Manu's deal did not impact the cap is extremely wrong-headed and has been debunked multiple times.
And without getting into a debate about what Manu means from a marketing standpoint, I will just say that they don't seem all too concerned with their bottom dollar, given that they've pissed away more than $16 Million from 2016-2018 for guys who weren't or aren't likely won't be on the team.
Spurs mishandled both Hang and Simmons, though Simmons was polite and acknowledged the Spurs giving him an opportunity.
Hanga's camp had made public he was only coming over if Manu retired and it's reasonable to infer the promise on his contract might have been conditional on that, thus the statement he would only come over if Manu retired. IMO he wasn't going to accept a FA minimum deal when his own FA In Europe yielded better pay and minutes. This is an obvious inference. Recently some European prospects have been signed to better than minimum contracts too.
Ultimately Pop and RC decides on roster composition but they appeared to encourage him to come over this past season and then reneged on a contract offer. I believe the signing of Rudy Gay took both minutes and $ that could have either been Hanga's, Simmons, etc. So for the Spurs sake I hope Rudy pans out and is in good playable shape after that Achilles injury. Manu retiring would have all but guaranteed minutes from Rudy weren't going to be enough and amplify the need for wings with some defensive chops, which none of the rookies have as they are both guards, thus possibly making the signing of Hang a a better priority. Considering the Pau contract situation, Hanga was at least one of the possibilities considered. risk/reward is greater with gay than it would have been with hanga. i've got no problem with hanga being the odd man out.
Why are folks still arguing that scrub Hanga? :lol
Spurs front office just realized the dude sucks. it's tantamount to the back up quarterback obsession that afflicts so many fans.

If there was ever a guard that I thought was going to make it nearly that long, it was Stockton. He quit earlier than I even thought he would (probably cos Jazz were no longer contenders). For Manu, I've resigned myself to the idea that this is definitely his last season barring some amazing resurgence. It's too hard defensively for guards in today's NBA at plus 40.

Is that supposed to be a threat? I don't know why you take these disagreements so personally.
The biggest myth about professional sports, is that playing time is mostly based on merit. In reality, playing time is mostly predetermined. On this team, 8 (Aldridge, Leonard, Gasol, Green, Parker, Gay, Mills, Ginobili) are guaranteed rotation spots and each rotation spot generally plays within' a certain range of minutes. If Ginobili did not return, the backup SG was still getting 18-20 mpg.
The small difference in regular season minutes between Ginobili and Simmons/Dedmon because of the former's age/mileage and Pop's micro managing. Still, 8 marked a clear delineation between solidly in or out of the rotation, as evidenced in the playoffs, when Dedmon predictably fell out and Simmons was on the fringe before Leonard's injury.
I don't know why you love to convolute simple things. Simmons was generally the fourth wing and now Anderson will be. End of story.

He's a delusional prick.
Just like with many CBA guys, they hide under their knowledge of the specifics.
The guy has never been right about player evaluations either so its' comical that he thinks his opinion is worth a pinch of Salt...

I would tend to agree but my worry is that his play plummets drastically.
With the comparison being Robinson in 2003 and Duncan in 2016, both who still could've played if they wanted.

Yep. He has no confidence in his game if he's scared of losing minutes to a 40 year old Manu, and if he can't get court time over Manu, then that means he didn't play well enough. Simmons was mediocre throughout most of the season. He had 1 great game to start the season, then fucked it all up by not taking open jumpshots and passing the ball off instead of attacking for the rest of it. He started playing well in the playoffs and looking more like that player after game 1 of the RS, though.

If the Spurs renounce his cap hold, they cannot resign him using Bird rights. He was a player that, if he didn't retire, the Spurs wanted back. But, you know, that's not really Manu's fault, the Spurs certainly had every chance to to move in another direction and didn't do so.

One of whom was Duncan's $5mm which you'll pay 100% of the time. But probably need to add the Gasol buy out in year three to that.
Totally disagree on Manu last offseason. Had they had a max guy they were close to signing, they would have renounced Manu and moved on with it. They didn't have one (market as you and I remember was insane, and those deals are all ugly in retrospect). So they settled on Gasol and there was money left for Manu, so they gave him the Kobe contract. Except instead of 2 for $48mm under a lower cap it was 1 for $14 and now a 2 for $5.
