Live 2000 was probably the greatest Live game ever. The graphics were such an enormous step up from Live 99 and you finally had good moves to clear space to shoot jumpers. Then EA laid a bunch of their Live devs off right after and Live 2001 was a complete piece of shit. Live 2003 was great since it was like a 5 on 5 NBA Jam (New Jersey was unbeatable in this game), but then they took a huge step back in 2004 when they slowed the game down but added that ridiculous hop step that was unguardable.
