Is James Harden present and are the strip clubs getting flooded?

Maybe James will do some cool large donation to kick off a charity event for the clubs that got flooded?

People did die during that I think but I don't remember it being 200 people. He was getting defensive, and his response was something like "well tell me what neighborhood to evacuate first when the rain was everywhere". People near bayous and creeks would have been ideal first. But he acted like he had no idea the rain was going to be that bad.

These fucking idiots knew the possibilities of 40 to 50 inches of rain. AND kept it from media.

The key to the whole thing.

People in SA calling it just a crock/media hype?

Yea, because WE did not get thunderdumped.
The media has reason to play it up with the pictures and all. But in general the forecasters did a good job so far predicting the path and warning of possibilities (a word some on this thread have trouble with)

Doubt it. Hurricanes pretty much always send the rain bands to the east/northeast. That's why Houston is getting assraped right now and SA is getting spotty drizzle. Harvey would have to go way west to send SA as much rain as it is houston.

Should have dragged them to some downed power lines after so you could teach them some Kirchoff's rules.

I love that circuit stuff. When you start adding capacitors and inductors it gets a bit tedious though.

I have accidentally charged some homemade capacitors a little too much and learned bodily what it feels like when current runs trying to equalize electrical potential energy. Yep, discharged a capacitor a few times though my body. Made a tesla coil in school out of saltwater bottle capacitors and a neon sign transformer. Had some really good primary and secondary coils. Once we got it "tuned".

Damn. Was really loud and an ozone manufacturing wonder. We tested am radios at various distances away from it and it shut them out a good distance away. Quite amazing when you do this from scratch with nothing fancy.

This is true, yet Austin has got much more than us. Not predicted and could have been the other way round very easily.

Been seeing this info going around. FYI. Get those insurance claims in this week.

Texas property owners should be aware that House Bill 1774, passed by the 85th Texas Legislature, will change the law regarding how legal actions for certain insurance claims are handled, including some claims for property damages or losses caused by natural disasters. If you need to make an insurance claim related to Hurricane Harvey, you should study how the law may affect you. Claims made before September 1, 2017, will be subject to current law; those filed on or after September 1 will fall under the new law.

Well what was this mayor saying last Wednesday when Gov Abbott was saying GTFO? I could see telling people to shelter in place yesterday since they already missed the window. My wife's uncle took his family out of Alvin on Wednesday, good thing since their house is flooded now.

Edit: Nevermind, found it

“Even if an evacuation order has not been issued by your local official, if you are in areas by Corpus Christi and Houston … you need to strongly consider evacuating,” Abbott said at a news conference about 1 p.m. Friday.

“If I were living in the Houston region, as I once did, I would decide to head to areas north of there,” he added. “Think of your life first.” However, local officials have been adamant that most area residents do not need to evacuate since the area will likely be hit by rain and flooding but not hurricane winds.

I understand the logistical nightmare of evacuating some people, but doing it in a car >>> doing it in a boat. However I saw people rescued today that could have walked out of their house and onto the dry street 300 meters away, and the rescue vehicles passed people walking in the same water as they were rescuing these able bodied adults in their 30's. People who put that much of a strain on rescue resources cause deaths in areas that didn't get a fast enough response. "oh no, the road is wet, let's wait for the police to come get us.. grab your laptop".

I feel like people are beyond stupid.

But, he doesn't care about (shit). All he cares about is keeping that job and that lifestyle and prestige and privilege that goes with it. Win by attrition. It's a great battle strategy. I use it myself. I'm white so it doesn't always work, but, if you're black and have a spot carved out, hunker down, take the hits and the days will pass by.

Just like the mayor of NO. Hmmm....

So always trust the rich guy who runs for political office. Gotcha.
Next time a poor person runs for the local school board because they are living a life that understands what might need to be done, I will run against them.

They started releasing some water from the reservoirs. That water has already started going in to homes which that water could be there for up to two months. They are evacuating Missouri City, Sugar Land and those who live near cypress creek.

I'd imagine we're going to have a week of Harvey induced winds from the north though considering how slowly this thing is going to move. I didn't go to correspondence school for meteorology like Albert Flores or anything, but that seems like it's pretty much a long cold front if we're going to be getting steady wind from the NE, N, and NW as Harvey moves up the Texas/Louisiana border. This isn't like if it happened in June and we had months of really long days to heat us. In late August the days are getting shorter pretty quickly. Late June is when we're getting the most heating from the sun and it gradually wanes as the days get shorter, but the momentum of the high temps seems to keep things going through August. It would be nice if we're getting our fall 3-4 weeks early thanks to Harvey.

You'll probably see this convection become displaced and warm up top for a time period this evening. Then new convection fires overnight according to every model. It just depends on where, when. Basically what could occur is precip shield weakening and sliding SE toward the coast for a short time. Heavy rain should move back in later during nighttime period as storm reorganizes itself. If Houston is lucky, dry air really messes things up. That's not likely. It's a closed circulation over the gulf. We're not focused on storm strength, but moisture, and there is more than plenty.
To me, best convergence will be S and E of HOU..

Houston has a bum population of like 100k.

Actually, the homeless have the best chance of surviving something like this. When they first become submerged, the homeless join together using their jaws and sticky pads on their legs, according to a study (http://www.pnas.org/content/108/19/7669.short) in the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences. Each bunch can contain several homeless people. The ones at the bottom regularly switch out with the ones on the top, so (almost) none of the homeless stay under long enough to drown. The most valuable members of the group are pushed to the top and center for safe keeping, while a few unlucky individuals get permanently pressed to the edge of the ball by their neighbors. If one part of the newly mobile bunch is disturbed, other homeless people will move to fix the gap. These living rafts can stay together for days, or as long as it takes to reach a tree or dry land.

In theory that would work. I just wonder if people in higher/safer areas would panic and flee anyway when they're not supposed to. Isn't that pretty much what Katy residents did when Rita hit? Also, this storm basically fucked the whole city as opposed to isolated areas which is hard to predict.

i agree though. If I were in a vulnerable area that got pummeled during the Memorial/Tax Day floods, I would've gotten the hell out of dodge regardless of mandatory/no mandatory evacuation

There's a solid area of surface frontogenesis being depicted right over Pensacola right now with the front. Intense rising motion created by strengthening area of divergence aloft will set up some crazy rainfall rates for a period of time. Nightmare for everyone along the Gulf coast right now.

The rain is dumping to your NW right now.

Crazy.
In Texas most of the rain dumped to the E and NE of the storm.
You just need it to move on and not meander around for days.

I worry that so much attention is on Houston, that interest will wane now that the rain has moved on. Read something that said 100% of homes in Port Arthur have been affected by flood.

Just got off the phone with my mom. Nearly everyone's houses are underwater due to the fact they evacuated the flood control station and there is no one pumping the water out of the city. The water is still up to her porch and They are trying to wave down a rescue boat.

Just read that the Arkema Chemical plant has no power and supposedly in danger of exploding.

Richard Rowe, who is CEO of the company's North America unit, told reporters the company expects chemicals on site to catch fire or explode within the next six days. He said the company has no way to prevent a fire or potential explosion near the plant that is swamped by about six feet of water.

Once it hits at that predicted level Trump should immediately release oil from those underground caverns.

Energy Secretary Rick Perry announced Thursday that he authorized 500,000 barrels of crude oil to be drawn down from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The reserve is made up of a complex of tanks and deeper [[[[[[[[[underground storage caverns.]]]]]]]]]The move is aimed at shielding Americans from gasoline prices, which have begun to rise sharply due to a shortage of gasoline caused by refinery shutdowns. Port closures have also left refineries still operating with less access to crude oil shipments.

It's fukin stupid. WTF is one full tank going to do? And besides there isn't even a shortage, and if there is it'll be because of the idiots who are fueling up now.

Bingo bango. People are panicking and causing the gas "shortage" by everyone rushing to the pumps all at once.

If people just went about their business and filled up when they normally would, this probably wouldn't even be a problem.

I don't mind Looters honestly... they're just trying to be smart and make it happen for themselves. But if you outsmart them and bring arms and they are outgunned, then you win... Survival of the fittest! The way nature intended society to be.

fuck them, the stores are open. It's not a disaster area anymore but our apartment has been landlocked by water at times making it inaccessible. The looters, most from the Tango Blast gang, are all coming from the next door complex which you can actually drive in and out of. But yesterday, I had to walk a mile and a half there and back for groceries since I couldn't drive in and out of my complex temporarily. I am the one who's disadvantaged in this situation so please tell me what's their excuse again?

Three reasons:

1) Texas has more resources to deal with a natural disaster than Louisiana

2) We have more guns

3) With Katrina, a lot of people (especially the wealthy) evacuated which left behind a certain demographic that has a history of committing the majority of violent crimes in the US. When that demographic was left to rule over themselves for a week, New Orleans descended into third world anarchy. That didn't happen in Houston due to 1) and 2)

However, looting has still been common in certain areas of town, especially my area since we're still dealing with reservoir runoff
