[[[Energy Secretary Rick Perry announced Thursday that he authorized 500,000 barrels of crude oil to be drawn down from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The reserve is made up of a complex of tanks and deeper underground storage caverns.
The move is aimed at shielding Americans from gasoline prices, which have begun to rise sharply due to a shortage of gasoline caused by refinery shutdowns. Port closures have also left refineries still operating with less access to crude oil shipments.]]]

Easy, sit down with your appropriate cabinet member and a Texas Instrument calculator and figure it out. Then ready yourself to release that amount should the thing actually hit at the supposed strength. That way we ain't put upon till Xmas, for Christ sake.

Right. The oil is fine, but the refineries are temporarily shut down. When they open, there'll be a slight glut from the extra oil that would have been sold these few weeks of turmoil. Therefore the prices will be a small bit lower than they would be. Of course we're heading towards winter so they should go down steadily from next month on, anyway.
