Trump says DACA decision coming 'over the weekend'Earlier in the day, Trump said a decision could be made Friday or this weekend, though he later specified Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
A number of lawmakers, including members of Trump's own party, spoke out Friday against the possibility of the president ending the policy, instead arguing for Congress to decide on its future.
Trump faces a Sept. 5 deadline when the attorneys general of 10 states plan to file suit against the administration over the policy's continued existence.
As of the end of March, almost 788,000 initial grants and 800,000 renewals had been made under the program since 2012.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-daca-decision-coming-today-weekend/story?id=49545914
Businesses overwhelmingly support keeping DACA, and 70% of Americans do.
Enormous majority of DACA kids are either in college or working.

Unfortunately I believe he'll kneel here. Hussein's surrogate (Gen. Kelly) has his ear on such matters. The deal is:::"Tweet all you want, but, all policy goes thru me."
I don't understand why Trump would hire ANYONE even remotely associated with Hussein's regime. It baffles my mind, but, it's happened.

Republicans crank up pressure on Trump to not scrap DACA
The White House says an announcement on Trump's decision will be made on Tuesday.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions and policy aide Stephen Miller are the most vocal advocates of killing the program, :lol OF COURSE :lol
and they’ve both made the case that it will be difficult to defend in court.
Though Trump is largely convinced that he should end the program, he continues to raise concerns privately about the possible political blowback,
Texas :lol OF COURSE :lol and nine other states have threatened to sue the Trump administration over DACA if the president doesn’t rescind the measure by Tuesday.

A ‘dreamer’ dies trying to save Harvey victims, days before Trump plans to end DACA
As Harvey’s wrath descended on Texas, Alonso Guillén’s father begged him not to make the 120-mile trek to the Houston area to rescue those stranded in floodwaters.
“It is too dangerous,” his father pleaded, Guillén’s brother recalled.
But when it came to helping others, Guillén, a 31-year-old Mexican immigrant, was headstrong, relatives told The Washington Post. On Aug. 29, Guillén left his job as a radio host early to pile into a white Chevy Tahoe with a group a friends. The volunteers from Lufkin made the drive to Cyprus Creek in Spring, a Houston suburb. Once there, they set out on five boats, using a walkie-talkie app to identify people who needed rescuing.
Late that night, as Guillén and his group were on their way to pluck survivors from an apartment complex, their rescue boat slammed into an Interstate 45 bridge. The collision hurled Guillén and his friend, Tomas Carreon, 25, also of Lufkin, into the rushing floodwaters. A third person in the boat was later rescued, grasping onto a tree, the Houston Chronicle reported.
On Friday, searchers found Carreon’s body. On Sunday, Guillén’s body floated to the surface, his brother, Jesus Guillén said.
“He died wanting to serve,” Jesus Guillén, a 36-year-old truck driver from Lufkin, told The Washington Post. “He could have stayed home watching the news on television, but he chose to go help.”
Guillén and Carreon were among at least 60 people who had died as of Monday afternoon in connection to the storm, a number expected to increase. Their stories struck a chord with immigrant communities in Texas and beyond. Relatives said Guillén was a “dreamer,” a recipient of Obama-era protections that President Trump is preparing to end. He came to the United States from Mexico when he was 15.

Trump’s arguments on DACA contradict his position on the travel ban
Then: unlimited discretion. Now: hands are tied.
Sessions sought to frame the question as a simple matter of constitutional law rather than a policy judgment on the merits of taking 800,000 people out of the legal workforce and subjecting them to possible deportation.
“It means we are enforcing our laws as Congress passed them,” Sessions explained.
Texas’s attorney general :lol of fucking course :lolthreatened to sue under the untested legal theory that DACA represents a violation of the president’s constitutional obligation to “take care” that the laws of the country be enforced.
Trump administration always made the exact opposite argument:
that the executive branch has extremely broad and essentially unreviewable discretion over immigration policy.
Now Sessions is arguing he has no discretion at all. :lol
ICE is already deporting as many people as the backlog in immigration courts will allow (https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/8/10/16119910/trump-deportations-obama) — about 400,00 people per year.
Exercising some discretion to ensure that 800,000 particularly sympathetic cases out of a total population of about 11 million won’t be targeted is a perfectly reasonable approach, and
Trump absolutely had the option of standing up in court for his right to take that approach.
He simply chose not to.

DACA deportations could cost US economy more than $400 billion
rump's decision to remove of hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from the workforce could cost the economy hundreds of billions of dollars over the next 10 years.
The Trump administration announced the "wind down" over the next six months of the DACA program, which shields some 800,000 young immigrants from deportation.
Unless Congress acts to replace the Obama-era program with similar protections, those people would no longer be allowed to work in the U.S.

"Immigration can be a controversial topic.
We all want safe, secure borders and a dynamic economy, and people of goodwill can have legitimate disagreements about how to fix our immigration system so that everybody plays by the rules.
But that’s not what the action that the White House took today is about.
This is about young people who grew up in America – kids who study in our schools, young adults who are starting careers, patriots who pledge allegiance to our flag.
These Dreamers are Americans in their hearts, in their minds, in every single way but one: on paper.
They were brought to this country by their parents, sometimes even as infants.
They may not know a country besides ours.
They may not even know a language besides English.
They often have no idea they’re undocumented until they apply for a job, or college, or a driver’s license.
Over the years, politicians of
both parties have worked together to write legislation that would have told these young people – our young people –
that if your parents brought you here as a child,
if you’ve been here a certain number of years, and
if you’re willing to go to college or serve in our military,
then you’ll get a chance to stay and earn your citizenship.
And for years while I was President,
I asked Congress to send me such a bill.
That bill never came. (Repugs need campaign issues, like hate, xenophobia, guns, Sharia, LGBT)
And because it made no sense to expel talented, driven, patriotic young people from the only country they know solely because of the actions of their parents, my administration acted to lift the shadow of deportation from these young people, so that they could continue to contribute to our communities and our country.
We did so
based on the well-established legal principle of prosecutorial discretion, deployed by Democratic and Republican presidents alike,
because our immigration enforcement agencies have limited resources, and it makes sense to focus those resources on those who come illegally to this country to do us harm.
Deportations of criminals went up.
Some 800,000 young people stepped forward, met rigorous requirements, and went through background checks.
And America grew stronger as a result.
But today, that shadow has been cast over some of our best and brightest young people once again.
To target these young people is wrong – because they have done nothing wrong. It is self-defeating – because they want to start new businesses, staff our labs, serve in our military, and otherwise contribute to the country we love.
And it is cruel.
What if our kid’s science teacher, or our friendly neighbor turns out to be a Dreamer?
Where are we supposed to send her?
To a country she doesn’t know or remember, with a language she may not even speak?
ind Out More >
Let’s be clear: the action taken today isn’t required legally.
It’s a political decision, and a moral question.
Whatever concerns or complaints Americans may have about immigration in general,
we shouldn’t threaten the future of this group of young people
who are here through no fault of their own,
who pose no threat,
who are not taking away anything from the rest of us.
They are that pitcher on our kid’s softball team, that first responder who helps out his community after a disaster, that cadet in ROTC who wants nothing more than to wear the uniform of the country that gave him a chance.
Kicking them out won’t lower the unemployment rate, or lighten anyone’s taxes, or raise anybody’s wages.
It is precisely because this action is contrary to our spirit, and to common sense, that business leaders, faith leaders, economists, and Americans of all political stripes called on the administration not to do what it did today.
And now that the White House has shifted its responsibility for these young people to Congress, it’s up to Members of Congress to protect these young people and our future.
I’m heartened by those who’ve suggested that they should.
And I join my voice with the majority of Americans who hope they step up and do it with a sense of moral urgency that matches the urgency these young people feel.
Ultimately, this is about basic decency. (iow, it's about basic Repug INdecency)
This is about whether we are a people who kick hopeful young strivers out of America, or whether we treat them the way we’d want our own kids to be treated. It’s about who we are as a people – and who we want to be.
What makes us American is not a question of what we look like, or where our names come from, or the way we pray.
What makes us American is our fidelity to a set of ideals – that all of us are created equal; that all of us deserve the chance to make of our lives what we will; that all of us share an obligation to stand up, speak out, and secure our most cherished values for the next generation.
That’s how America has traveled this far.
That’s how, if we keep at it, we will ultimately reach that more perfect union."

Find Out More >
Let’s be clear: the action taken today isn’t required legally.
(iow, it about basic Repug INdecency)

Trump Claims He Has ‘Love’ For DACA Recipients After Ending The Program
“I have a great heart for these folks we’re talking about, a great love for them,” :lol FUCKING LIAR! :lol
Trump said during a photo opportunity with members of Congress and his administration, referring to those protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which he terminated on Tuesday.
He said “people think in terms of children” when they think of DACA recipients “but they’re really young adults.”
“I have a love for these people, and hopefully now Congress will be able to help them and do it properly,” Trump said.
“Really we have no choice. :lol Trash's / Sessions' hands are tied! They must use the "law" to hide their racism :lol
We have to be able to do something, and I think it’s going to work out very well. And longterm it’s going to be the right solution.”

The most important thing to understand about President Trump's decision Tuesday to wind down the DACA program, which has allowed 800,000 immigrants brought to this country illegally as children to stay here, is just how legally shaky DACA was.
Before issuing the executive order creating DACA – which stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals – President Obama had repeatedly said he did not have the authority to change immigration law on his own.
President Obama then changed his mind. The courts, including the Supreme Court in 2016, enjoined a similar law for adults. Legal scholars predicted DACA would be declared invalid within a year.
President Trump's decision to end DACA – but to allow a 6-month grace period so Congress can codify changes in the law that could let so-called Dreamers stay – is being attacked from left and right.
To liberals, the president’s move represents the creation of heartless uncertainty. For conservatives, immigration hawk Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, says the president's action will touch off a "big, civil war" among Republicans.
In reality, the president is this time keeping his cool and navigating the turbulent political waters here prudently.
President Trump isn’t keeping the specifics of the DACA order, which grants a two-year renewable work permit to recipients while blocking any deportation actions against them unless a criminal record is involved. But President Trump says he will work with Congress to reach a viable solution.
A statement by the president Tuesday echoes DACA supporters in one respect: "I do not favor punishing children, most of whom are now adults, for the actions of their parents," President Trump said.
Candidate Trump’s heated campaign rhetoric last year led many people to believe he really did want to deport millions of undocumented immigrants. But his attention-grabbing soundbites were belied by his previous positions on the subject.
Back in 2012, when he was mulling over a run for president, Trump told an interviewer he was “probably down the middle” on immigration issues. After his election in 2016, he said he would focus on deporting "bad hombres" with criminal records and leave the Dreamers alone while the issue was sorted out.
The genius of Trump on the campaign trail was that he sent two different messages on immigration. On the one hand, he called for a border wall and bizarrely claimed he would get Mexico to pay for it. On the other hand, he said he would build a “big beautiful door” in the wall to let in legal immigrants. He reiterated that stand after the election, when he told a rally that he expected the wall would let in both legal immigrants and guest workers.
With his acknowledgement Tuesday that he expected to sign a compromise on the Dreamer issue, President Trump is actually proving himself a good player in the game of the political two-step. Activists on both sides of the political spectrum are upset, but the vast majority of voters in the middle will probably see it as a reasonable compromise.
Of course, members of Congress are already posturing. Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., is accusing Trump of "hostage taking" should the president try to tie Dreamer status to, say, funding for his border wall. But in the end, the political onus will be on Democrats if they block Dreamer legislation because they refuse to link it to any other issue.
If President Trump plays his cards right, his move Tuesday is smart politics. With new guidelines in place that make it easier to deport unwanted or criminally minded immigrants, the president can feel free to be flexible and even generous with other immigrants.
The end result will satisfy neither President Trump’s most fanatical supporters nor his critics. But it is certainly likely to work better than the chaotic status quo on immigration.

Feinstein: DACA is on 'Shaky Legal Ground
DACA is on "shaky legal ground," Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., conceded to Chuck Todd on MSNBC Tuesday after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced President Donald Trump would end the program to protect "Dreamers."
"It is. That's why we need to pass a law. And we should do it," she said after Todd asked her whether DACA may not have been legal.
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program started in 2012 under former President Barack Obama via an executive order. Trump during the campaign spoke many times about his desire to end DACA, which grants amnesty to undocumented immigrants who entered the United States as children.
Feinstein urged on her fellow lawmakers to mandate DACA.

Gee it's an onus on Congress ???? No it's what the Constitution requires, not Obama Law. Obama broke the Constitution by making this policy without going through Congress as the Constitution REQUIRES !!!!!!!! So there is no onus on Congress, it is their job, which should have been done when Obama was in charge. Instead Congress let Obama break the law & did nothing about it. So for all these cry babies out there, sorry you are here illegally, the excuses your family brought you here as a child makes no difference. Your family did nothing to correct their crime, you were fully aware of it as you applied for the dreamer status, thus you knew you are here illegally. You made no attempt to correct your status legally by paying the money & following the procedures that legal immigrants follow to enter here. Instead you chose the free way in. Sorry this citizen is tired of being law abiding & seeing my tax dollars going to support law breakers who seem to feel their entitled to live here but not follow the law.

Arizona v. United States (http://www2.bloomberglaw.com/public/desktop/document/Arizona_v_United_States_No_11182_2012_BL_157302_US _June_25_2012_C), “a principal feature of the removal system [used to remove immigrants from the country] is the broad discretion exercised by immigration officials.”
When confronted with an immigration who is eligible for deportation, executive branch officials still must decide “as an initial matter, must decide whether it makes sense to pursue removal at all."
it is significant that, when a group of states led by Texas sued the Obama administration to shut down its expansion of DACA-like relief, it did not challenge an Obama-era document instructing immigration officials to focus their enforcement on undocumented individuals who are national security threats, criminals, or who similarly endanger the “public safety.
Texas even conceded that the administration could notify beneficiaries of a program like DACA that they enjoy a kind of privileged position among undocumented immigrants.
A lower court’s injunction challenging Obama’s immigration authority, Texas explained, “does not require the Executive to remove anyone, and it does not touch the removal prioritization memorandum. The Executive has been free all along to issue ‘low-priority’ identification cards to aliens.”

You are not alone, based on the ongoing stuff I read in places like the Economist.
Give an easy path to citizenship, bulk up the process to get those people out of the shadows, and into the legitimate workforce. Then ramp up labor and tax law enforcement to the point where the people hiring them have a much better chance of being caught using undocumented laborers.
Hell, a decent temporary work permit process would do it.
The problem is that the GOP base would never go for it, and that is the part of the electorate that has been setting the tone of the debate for a long time on immigration.
The Democrats need to find their nutz and get this shit done, IMO.

I agree that the DOJ needs to do more to stop employers from hiring illegals, but that alone isn't going to stop the problem. DACA recipients are eligible for state-funded benefits in some states. People will still come illegally for the handouts.
eVerify and the wall can both be parts of an overall immigration plan, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

FDR did a lot of things people like to forget:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_sex_scandal most leaders did (and still do). this is a utilitarian country that relies on consequential morality more than any other moral compass. some leaders just went even further than others in regards to how many of the "few" needed to be sacrificed and were more selective about who the "many" were. not sure where FDR would rank in regards to the totality of his sins versus the sum of his virtues.
the key differentiator was that they were white i just read over some of the Sheridan Report and it sort of admits as much, at least in regards to the whole notion of assimilation that we see as such a prominent argument of the far right today. the japs, apparently, just weren't 'merican' enough to be as trusted as the germans and italians.

he accepted Trump’s invitation because the president had a “change of tone” about the DREAMERs program, and promised a solution that would satisfy all involved.
In a statement today, Rodriguez blasted the president and Congress for not protecting the Dreamers and keeping their promises. He said that for too long Hispanic people have been “political bargaining chips of our powerful politicians.”
“This is an affront to the sanctity of life,” he wrote in his statement. “It is inhuman and the Hispanic community will stand for it no longer.”
Rodriguez said, “Hundreds of thousands of Hispanic young people will be overcome with fear and grief today.”
He said they are no longer going to sit idly by and be played.

A Minister Who Blessed Trump Inauguration Just Issed A Dire Warning To Him & Republicans
The Reverend Samuel Rodriguez ... now says that Trump lied to him (http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2017/01/19/sam-rodriguez-latino-evangelical-pastor-donald-trump-inauguration-lah-pkg.cnn)back in January. :lol how NAIVE to believe ANYTISH Trash says
he accepted Trump’s invitation because the president had a “change of tone” about the DREAMERs program, and promised a solution that would satisfy all involved.

AP:
"NEW YORK (AP) — Fifteen states and the District of Columbia sued Wednesday to block President Donald Trump's plan to end a program protecting young immigrants from deportation — an act Washington state's attorney general called part of a "dark time for our country."
The lawsuit filed in federal court in Brooklyn asked a judge to conclude that the president's action involving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, is unconstitutional.

Unlikely tbh
I agree that the DOJ needs to do more to stop employers from hiring illegals, but that alone isn't going to stop the problem. DACA recipients are eligible for state-funded benefits in some states. People will still come illegally for the handouts.
eVerify and the wall can both be parts of an overall immigration plan, it doesn't have to be one or the other.
eVerify and heavy fines for employers who hire illegals will help stop adults. It will do nothing to stem the tide of children brought/sent here. And it does cost us taxpayers money to feed, clothe and educate these children (plus extra cost for ESOL students) - not to mention resident state college tuition over out of state AMERICAN CITIZENS. And yes, our kids are competing with these kids for college - gee, I wonder who these liberal colleges prefer - the undocumented, first generation, low-income Hispanic kid or my Christian, home-schooled, Asian Girl Scout. I don't have to wonder - full ride for the former and decline for the latter.
As long as the sentiment is "it's not their fault" and amnesty, they will continue to come. Follow the law - if you don't like the law, change it.

This board is so dominated by the topic of race and yet no one answers the questions when the shoe is on the other foot (topic of reverse discrimination). Who will step up and say that an asian student with the same resume/scores/gpa/extra-curriculars as a black or hispanic student has an equal chance of being accepted into an Ivy? That race does not play a role? Simple question, but what, I'm racist, because I ask?

You're not racist because you ask. The problem is that it's more anecdotal than quantifiable, AFAIK.
Instead of seeking an honest response to your questions, you pre-assume what the response is (that's the added LOL at the end of your post, btw) based on your racial bias.
It's difficult to take these arguments seriously without having some non-anecdotal evidence of :cry the struggle of asians to enter college :cry

So basically, two colleges are mentioned, one has been cleared and the Harvard lawsuit is still pending.
Also from your article:
More than two-thirds of colleges reported to the National Association for College Admission Counseling that the race and ethnicity of applicants has "no influence" on admissions decisions, and only 3.4 percent said that it has "considerable influence."
The reality is that it's hard to get into top colleges, and even people of any color with great SAT, etc tests are passed over, due strictly to capacity.
What's ironic about this topic, is that when government tools like affirmative action are brought up, the instant reaction from some crowd is 'reverse racism!'.
The question really is, do Asian Americans, as a total percentage of the US population, get the same or better admission percentage into top schools? The answer (again from your article) is, heck yeah.
See, we can have a conversation about minorities without resorting to racial stereotyping...

5 Reasons Trump Is Wrong On DACA
1. DACA beneficiaries try harder.
For the past five years, the program has stopped the deportation of young people who were brought into this country illegally as children and who are now in school or working. There are 10,000 DACA recipients in Connecticut. Eastern Connecticut State University has 116 DACA scholars, including some from other states (http://www.courant.com/politics/hc-undocumented-students-scholarship-20160510-story.html).
"These students are here on an academic scholarship, so the majority have 3.5 GPA or better, and a lot of them are double majors,"
2. Yes, DACA beneficiaries do create jobs.
They start more businesses (https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/immigration/news/2017/08/28/437956/daca-recipients-economic-educational-gains-continue-grow/)than the American public does as a whole, in fact.
This is hardly surprising, given that newcomers to this land have long been entrepreneurial: Half of the Fortune 500 companies in Connecticut today were founded by immigrants (http://www.courant.com/opinion/editorials/hc-ed-gop-official-ignorant-on-immigration-2-20170817-story.html)or their children
3. They do fill jobs too, and they pay taxes.
The largest study (https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/immigration/news/2017/08/28/437956/daca-recipients-economic-educational-gains-continue-grow/)of its kind to date found that "at least 72 percent of the top 25 Fortune 500 companies employ DACA recipients." That's why executives at these companies — including Apple, Facebook, Microsoft (http://www.courant.com/topic/business/technology-industry/microsoft-ORCRP009947-topic.html) and Amazon — are begging the tone-deaf president to leave DACA in place.
4. Booting them out would be inhumane.
Why punish DACA beneficiaries? Many of them have lived in the United States since grade school. They came with parents who were looking for opportunity or to escape oppression. Some of them can't speak the language of the land their parents took them away from many years ago.
To throw them out of the country they've called home since childhood seems heartless. (no, IS heartless. fucking weasal words)
5. What about making America great again?
This nation has been "a beacon of freedom and opportunity" for people like Uber's chief technology officer, Thuan Pham. He was just 10 (https://newsroom.uber.com/dreamers/)when his mother crammed him and his brother onto an old fishing boat for a terrifying journey from Vietnam that would eventually take them to the U.S.
America should be making citizenship easier for those who risk so much to live, study and work here, and for their families. The nation should be stapling green cards to their diplomas (as Hillary Clinton once said), not putting them in handcuffs.

How Small Can Donald Trump Make the Presidency?
In rescinding daca, President Trump has yet again embraced a policy that
ignores the real challenges facing the country,
further divides it, and
tarnishes its international reputation.
For some time now, it has been clear that Donald Trump is wading ever deeper into the cesspool.
From his reaction to the white-supremacist-inspired violence in Charlottesville, to his attempt to bar transgender people from serving in the armed forces, to his pardon of Joe Arpaio, the controversial former Maricopa County, Arizona, sheriff who rounded up and mistreated Latinos,
Trump has recently been intent on pandering to his most embittered and prejudiced supporters. SPURSTALKERS! :lol
From a cold political standpoint, these reprehensible acts may contain some logic.
With his approval ratings in the mid-thirties, and
with the Russia investigation seemingly closing in on him and his family,
Trump’s survival depends on his ability to whip up his remaining supporters.
Fear of incurring these supporters’ wrath (and a possible primary challenge) presumably prevents many congressional Republicans from breaking with the President.
The message was clear: Trump was returning to the nativist themes that propelled him during his campaign last year.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, indicated that
Trump wouldn’t sign any immigration bill that didn’t also address other contentious issues, like
border security and the
rules governing legal immigration.
For more than a decade now, Congress has failed to pass this type of comprehensive reform. On Capitol Hill, few people believe it is doable now.
( ... meaning, DACA will be operationally terminated in 6 months. Goons deporting Dreamers. Sieg Heil for all you ST KKK/Nazis )
Ending daca is now the official policy of the Trump Administration.
Yet again, Trump has embraced a policy that targets the politically powerless, ignores the real challenges facing the country, further divides it, and tarnishes its international reputation. (“What a cruel, sour place is Trump’s America,”
A Presidency that has been shrinking before our eyes practically since its first day has been further diminished. Eventually, it may well shrink to nothing.
But, between now and then,
look for things to get even uglier.

Donald Trump is right: Congress should pass DACA
The repeated failure to pass bills has left America with immigration laws that are unenforceable
IF YOU could design people in a laboratory to be an adornment to America they would look like the recipients of DACA. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, an executive action issued in 2012 by Barack Obama to protect most of those who were brought to the country as children from deportation, covers about 800,000 people. They are a high-achieving lot. More than 90% of those now aged over 25 are employed; they create businesses at twice the rate of the public as a whole; many have spouses and children who are citizens. They are American in every sense bar the bureaucratic one.
Correcting that ought to be about as hard politically as declaring a new public holiday. Instead, there is a good chance that Congress will return them to their prior limbo, or worse. Recipients of DACA were obliged to give their addresses to the federal government, which is charged with immigration enforcement, making it considerably easier to round them up now. After the Trump administration announced that it would end the programme in six months’ time, and called on Congress to pass a bill to replace it, the White House issued a set of talking points which suggested that Immigration and Customs Enforcement would find this personal information, given in exchange for shelter, very useful.
But the choice on DACA is not between the rule of law and rule by presidential edict. It is between two different types of legal failure—executive actions that are possibly unconstitutional and a set of immigration laws that are definitely impossible to enforce.
https://www.economist.com/news/leaders/21728647-repeated-failure-pass-bills-has-left-america-immigration-laws-are
This is one case where the stopped clock is right.
Trump was right to phase it out. It was questionable when Obama did it, and shameful that Congress hasn't taken up an update on something that everybody pretty much agrees should have been done years ago.
This provides the right fire lit under Congress' ass to get this shit done, IMO.
I don't believe for a minute that anyone is going to be deported.
