He's considering a coaching career. I don't think he has announced retirement but I read a week ago he had been to the Warriors camp too precisely bc of the coaching interest.

A lot of the guys are coming back looking pretty trim this year. Mills, Danny, Aldridge, and Gasol all look noticeably more fit. Even Parker looks to have slimmed, although probably due to his rehab.

I wonder if this is just coincidence, or if it was a mandate made by the coaching staff and/or amongst the guys.

I don't know if it was a mandate per se but if they aim to play faster they all have to be in better shape. Last season it was about controlling tempo.

Tony, per his rehab has worked harder in the gym than ever. Gasol it should make sense to take care of his body. I like that he's done that considering his age and the multi-year contract he got. He really looked out of shape last season and was known to get in shape through the season.

A lot of guys are in contract seasons too.

Might be their response to the trades.. I wonder if he left the end of season interview having been told Spurs were satisfied with him and wouldn't trade him to then find out his name all over the media with trade rumors. There are snakes everywhere. I didn't bring it up in that thread bc it contrary to other examples given, this one can't be proven. But it's not out of the realm of possibility. It also makes sense for Danny to opt out after those rumors. He has to look out for his own interest. He could be in trade rumors again. Might as well get paid or get a longer contract b4 he declines.

Whatever it is that lit a fire under their asses, I approve.

You have to be in pretty good shape to run a movement-based offense too, which the Spurs didn't do nearly enough of last season.

And in the case of Green and Mills, you have to be stronger if you're going to play up a position. Could see more PG/PG/SG/SF/C than PG/SG/SF/SF/C

Usually I snore through these scrimmages in the past but there's just so many questions around this team from everyone outside of Kawhi since we know what the team is going to get from him. Saying that, it's just a scrimmage game and it shouldn't be taken more seriously than that but let's just say I'm really curious.

I always get excited when the scrimmage and preseason rolls around because BASKETBALL!

Then I am always reminded that the stream the Spurs put up for the scrimmage usually blows balls, none of the preseason games are televised so you are lucky to find a halfway decent opponent stream, and Pop's rotations are always whack.

But hey, at least it's a sign that we are almost there...

I'm actually excited for this years team. So much pressure is on Warriors, Rockets, Cavs, and Thunder for their super team moves. The Spurs can just run the process without any crazy expectations and it could be a great reward.

You miss the point. It's obvious the organization doesn't allow the PR department to do anything interesting which certainly has an effect on the amount of excitement generated with the fanbase and other potential viewers/customers.

Of course long-time fans and old folks not on social media such as yourself will still get excited, but more needs to be done to get the younger demographic as well as the casual, burrito chomping, San Antonio fan to actually come to the games. It's pathetic that when you go to the games, or watch on tv, that you see so many empty seats for a team like the Spurs.

As I rambled on in his thread, I thought those comments referred to the business aspect of the NBA. Kyle's not going to get an extension and his NBA career hangs in the balance. It's understandable that he has a sense of unease and uncertainty about it. Plus, the way this summer went, he saw many players he knew get shafted by the franchises that held their rights. \

You're welcome. Kyle's anger is understandable if a little sad that he's been jaded so quickly in his career. I do not agree with the prevailing narrative on here that the Spurs shafted Simmons or Dedmon. Simmons is making millions of dollars a year now mainly because the Spurs took a chance on him. His career is far better off for once having been a Spur, so in the big picture his animosity to the team is unwarranted. Dedmon opted out of a deal. It was his own decision. Same with Lee (though I'd like Lee back).

I don't blame RC for not extending Kyle at this point. He is still too unproven. Hopefully, this year he shows he's worth another contract for the Spurs or elsewhere. If he does, that will help produce wins for SA (for this season at least) and financial security for Anderson.

I think the Simms thing depends on where and how you look at it, and depends on expectations and things that were said of which we don't know about. He was disappointed the Spurs didn't make him an offer and it is true the Spurs gave him an opportunity for which he was grateful and said so... great organization to start a career with, but that contract wasn't gifted to him but earned of his own effort. I do think he was disappointed that he didn't get an offer from the Spurs, nor did he get as much as he thought he would... that was out of his and Spurs control the market just changed suddenly... but it wasn't just him. It was Hanga, Shabazz his friend, Jamychal Green who the Grizz started all season and then didn't want to pay him... etc.. I am not saying this is the Spurs, but its a general picture he has. He said you can't believe what others tells you, which means to me that until the time comes that there is a contract before you to sign, you really can't believe someone telling you "they love you" or stuff of that nature. It's "show me the money". At least that was how I understood what he said... which is basically cryptic, but it's not solely about the Spurs but the NBA as a business.

Who are you referring to when you say "Shabazz his friend"?
Shabazz Mohammed former UCLA teammate. Him and Kyle are still close. Shabazz didn't get the offers he wanted from Minnesota (I can't blame them they have some guys they have to pay), apparently he was told that he would get offers from Los Angeles Lakers if he could get Minny to rescind their QO and if he was an UFA and he didn't get what he was offered. He was forced to sign back for the minimum with Minnesota after he didn't get offers and the market dried up. There are versions of it, but he was misled. He also took a risk in betting on himself for sure. Anyways, that's who I meant.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought you were referring to a friend of Simmons' that's why I got confused at who you meant. If I knew you were referring to Kyle, then I would have been able to work that out through the UCLA connection.

Guess we are going all in with the guard patrol this season. Still would've like to see Brimah's length on the team, even though he is incredibly raw.

It's fine. We have that stiff, Costello.
