Just noticed I have the the thread date wrong for the game for all you in North America as it should be 10/10. It's already the 11th here. Wasn't thinking. My bad.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Orlando Magic

October 10, 2017 | 7:30 pm CDT

Watch: League Pass

Spurs injuries: Kawhi Leonard (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/132534/kawhi-leonard) (quadriceps), Tony Parker (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/21781/tony-parker) (quadriceps)
Magic injuries: none
A tougher defensive test

Whether due to the competition, the addition of players such as Simmons and Isaac or both, the Magic have given up 92, 89 and 90 in their three preseason games. They’re young and athletic, the type of team that may test the Spurs’ ability to move the ball and find the open shot. No word yet on who will be on the floor for the Good Guys.

Really hated the way that half was called. I like the new continuation rule, but the moving-screen rule is going to piss me off, because I know they won't call it against GS. The Spurs over passed a lot and honestly don't seem to be taking this game seriously. Forbes was quiet, which he can't be if he wants to play. Murray was good. Joff was great. Green was blech.

He had a couple of nice plays, but he's been mostly invisible on offense. He hasn't been that great on Hezonia, but his help D is better than his fouls would suggest.

This is what I'm worried about. In some of Manu's interviews he keeps talking about a slow start to the season. I think he even mentioned he doesn't know if Kawhi will be back to start the season, so they may not get off to a good start. I don't know, I don't like the sound of any of it.

It has nothing to do with leadership. Simmons was out there desperately trying to win the game, which worked because the Spurs had guys like Costello and Hillard in there. He treated a meaningless pre-season game like it was his Super Bowl.

I didn't watch the game but I share your concerns, not going to lie. However Anderson tweaked an ankle and doesn't have chemistry or rhythm. I do hope both find their rhythm and for his sake, I hope Kyle finds his shooting touch. It looks like he didn't have a good game at all which is,bittersweet for me, bc I wanted to watch him but now I think I'd be disappointed if I did. On to the next one. These games are important for fixing their issues.

Also, kind of disappointed about the Gasol pairing to start but I guess he also deserves time to ring a groove.

Because being butt-hurt over a team not forcing you to take the QO is the epitome of petty.

I was at the game tonight, Murray looked decent but had some stupid turnovers and missed shots/free throws/floaters. Overall I think that was a perfectly acceptable game for him at this stage. Aldridge looked solid, missed some jumpers but hit a couple and did other things. Lovergne looked really good, he was a great passer and showed some moves in the post. Rudy Gay looked good, missed two bring the house down type of dunks but they were well defended and I think it's going to take a while for him to get back in really good shape and get his legs back under him but he's moving very well.

The Spurs are likely the first thing he thanks in his prayers every night. Like Boban, thanks to the Spurs he is a multi-millionaire. He was hanging out with all the players and coaching staff before the game. I'm sure everyone, especially Pop, is thrilled for he and his family.
That true and a good point. I meant it in the way he’s always going to ball hard and show off against the Spurs, maybe remind Pop if what he’s missing.

I had a very similar take. Those were my top three takeaways- LMA is playing great, Lauvergne was assisting and grabbing boards like he wants to make a difference, and Rudy Gay is a damn good addition. The one dunk he almost tomahawked was indeed contested, but it still obvious that this guy is the he real deal. I think he will have a great season, at least the eye test so far is promising. Murray got the start and he had an alright game, but not great by any means. Missed a lot of floaters and shot less than 50% I believe.

The main thing about this game was Pop was giving all the new guys plenty of rope to hang themselves with unfortunately. It's always a bit of a drag seeing guys just have bad performances when you know they've worked hard for the opportunity. As we squandered a double digit lead in the fourth quarter, I was feeling bad for a few of them. It was a pre-season game and could have easily been winnable, but we weren't playing for the win.

Me and my buddy were talking about Gordon... All he needed was a j to open the rest of his game up. He could be really good. They got some nice pieces they just need an Alpha and Gordon might be it. As for Simmons, I thought he might be the next Stephen Jackson but we'll see.

What do you mean by missed? He tried throwing down some dunks in traffic? or were these missed dunks with space? As in, does he not have any explosiveness to finish them?

I don’t know what he meant obviously but I had noticed Rudy missing alley oops he couldn’t grab in other games.
He looks much better than one could expect but that’s more a product of his height + strength. He’s still just skilled all around and a good enough shooter, etc to have + impact offensively but I think his hops aren’t what they used to be. That just my opinion.

I have not watched any PS games yet but I am happy how Lauvergne seems to be performing. Being in the typical international environment the Spurs provide makes him more comfortable than with other teams. I liked his game when I saw him on the french national team some years ago and am happy to have him on the team. His passing seems to be superb.

man.. way to deflate and burst my bubble.
I suppose roleplayers on minimum and small deals will be inconsistent but so far he seems to be the teams 3rd big, and I am not partial to Gasol. Gasol was, for his salary, very disappointing in the playoffs, and unlike Lamarcus who took a lot of heat, deservedly, he quietly ducked under the radar. I would have been happy with Simmons being resign and Gasol let go, personally. I don't know what to tell you about this team's construction. I like some things about them, a lot but others made me scratch my head.

He started to fade last game. The Magic were jumping his passes, and he was clanging shots and playing bad D. So long as Pop starts Gasol, Joff has a rotation spot, but there will likely be a number of changes to the rotation coming up.

I would have liked to have seen more experiments in preseason frankly.

It's my hope that Rudy being brought along slowly (he didn't participate in the open gym and had his minutes managed plus rested one game), + Kawhi being injured, then Kyle tweaking an ankle altered preseason plans. But I also have seen Pop insist on his current lineup... it makes sense for me, whatever it was the coaches decided to do, they have to let them get enough time together and chemistry to figure it out... but one hopes that is not all there is in their bag of tricks. For them having constructed a team with only 3 traditional bigs, they have insisted a whole lot on playing them together as much as they can.

Is there any reason to believe Kawhi won't be ready by Game 1?

Who knows. The Spurs have been extremely cautious, also secretive about players' injuries.

But watching some preseason vids, Kawhi doesn't look good at all.

It was hard for him to take the ball

And he was limping. A little limp but still...

There also a part of "behind scenes" HEB commercials where Kawhi could barely sit.

Yeah, definitely see that limp. Thanks for posting. I'm worried on two levels. 1) for the immediate beginning of the season and 2) that this is something chronic that can affect Kawhi's career.

Kawhi didn't touch a ball in the last two weeks. When Jabari Young shows before/after practices videos, all players are there but Kawhi.

We don't know if he'll play next Wesnesday but I doubt he will have a strong start to the season. In his first 7-9 games, he'll be rusty in limited minutes.

May have to set out a few Kawhi icons and candles at the local Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral until he's healthy.

Maybe LaMarcus "I'm an alpha dog, no, really I am, I promise" Aldridge can sustain us the first month of the season.

Do you think he'll be ready to go, though? We've been so secretive about Kawhi's condition I have no idea. I saw him at the game sitting with LMA and he looked happy and not the least bit distressed, but that doesn't speak to whether he is fit to play. You'd think this summer would have been enough and I heard he was training, but who knows?

Well in interviews Manu keeps talking about the team getting off to a slow start being without Tony and Kawhi (he includes Kawhi's name when he brings up Tony). He's mentioned that once or twice, so that Is why I am worried as Manu made it sound like Kawhi won't be ready to start the season.
