A sign that they plan to make him PG of the future? I think the timing is significant... Right before the season starts to give him confidence... Some players thrive knowing their spot and money is solidified and all they have to do is focus on basketball... I think Murray will have a great season, and will surprise us defensively...

According to the CBA the Spurs period for picking up the option was from "following the last day of the first Season through the immediately following October 31". If they wanted to send some kind of message it woud have been exercised a lot earlier. For example Porzingis' option was picked up in August already.

This was just house-keeping. To put it into perspective, they gave Kyle his options on 10/26/2015 and 10/21/2016. They knew they were picking this up barring injury when they drafted him.

Oh, yeah. I am not sure if this was the point of jyra 's post, but it's not like 2K where you can pick up the options at the end of the season. You have to decide before the previous season if you want to keep the guy, and if you don't pick up the option, the guy is there for a lame-duck season like with James Anderson in 2012.

Just a feeling or based on something you've seen from him?

Well he averaged 1.8 blocks for the preseason... And his athleticism should enable him to be a terror in the passing lanes... The only thing he needs is better defensive awareness... And he needs to fight over picks harder... If he picks up his man defense, we will be hard to beat

Murray needs to put on some muscle or plan on him getting hurt often.

putting on muscle doesn't keep you from getting hurt. his body probably can't carry that extra weight on his legs. We don't know that

Wade has always been pretty well built... But he is always injured

Ok...well Murray needs to gain strength then.

In order to fight through picks, Dijon definitely needs to add a lot of strength of body and toughness of attitude.

He has to get a better shooting stroke and learn not to bounce the ball up to his chest when he dribbles among other development issues.
