The crowd has 'adopted' the team, if only for a few games, and are really getting into it. Auditioning my ass, what you've seen has been pure enjoyment. And when haven't we shown great effort supporting the Spurs? I'm not suggesting that NO shouldn't want to keep their team, whether that's feasible or not is an entirely different argument. However, to suggest that we're doing a crappy job supporting either the Saints or the Spurs is pretty ridiculous.

dude, i like the texans, but when i went to one of their games(it was a very close game too), i just didn't have the same excitement as when i rooted for the saints yesterday. yesterday, i was almost cheering as if they were the spurs..

either way, it was bad ass to have a team you adopted playing there... i don't have season tickets for the spurs..no way i'd go to 41 games...but i sure as hell would buy season tickets to the saints even though they would probably be about the same price.

Well, I can only speak for myself and people I know and have talked to, but we weren't cheering just because it was an NFL game. We were cheering because we're foster fans for the Saints, for lack of a better word. This is supposed to be their home field, and we did everything possible to give them that advantage. And maybe most weren't thinking Saints (except to be excited about the unlikely but possible move)...why would we have been? They're not a Texas team, most people haven't relocated from that area, there was no reason for a real connection. But you indicated that we were pretending to be fans, that we were auditioning. That wasn't the case.

I think we should wait for the numbers for this season before we can make any accurate statements about how this will affect the Spurs support. We've had exactly one game so far this year. Pre-season. Sold out. Our numbers (and support) have been phenominal lately. Nobody wants to come play at the SBC Center. There is a reason for that. It's us, the fans. And as Writer pointed out, we do have 99% capacity.

Yup, all levels were going strong for a bit. But it took a while to really get it going. When it stopped the section(s) that started it started booing, I felt so bad for the players, hoping they didn't think we were booing them :)

Agree! The NFL Commissioner will do everything possible to get the Saints in LA after this season. I say let them go, then the people who keep bashing San Antonio for trying to keep them here, will have a new battle and wish they kept their mouths shut about them possibly moving here. If they do move to LA I can see them saying... In listening to and reading the complaints coming from Louisiana, I was struck by that irony. Somehow, it was okay for them to openly campaign to bring the Spurs to NOLA, but when the Saints are looking around to move, it's not okay for San Antonio to court them. Ridiculous.

It seems that the only parties who are against the idea of a Saints move are some citizens of Lousiana (and particularly New Orleans) and a bunch of whiny Cowboys fans who are more interested in preserving their Sunday tradition of watching the Cowboys on TV than in what's good for the City of San Antonio.

I agree with your latter point, but I think you're foolish if you think the two issues don't go hand-in-hand. Corporations move to cities where there are amenities. The broad category of amenities includes things like weather, favorable terms, sound infrastructure, and any number of diversions. While favorable terms are undoubtedly the most important part of the equation, the simple possibility of offering favorable terms doesn't give a city a chance to lure great corporations. Corpus Christi could offer no taxes ever and offer to pay an annual stipend to a major corporation to entice it to move there, but the corporation isn't likely to bite even on those favorable terms. There's obviously another part of the equation, and that encompasses quality of life, which includes, among other things, the availability of diversions like professional sports.

And San Antonio is already luring major corporations -- it's not as if the city is lacking in that department. There are at least 3 Fortune 25 corporations that have major enterprises in SA (Clear Channel, Valero, SBC). Toyota is bringing a plant here.

Adding a football team to what we already have certainly isn't going to hurt the City's chances to bring in new enterprise and increase the quality of life for the citizens of this area.

I disagree with you in this department. I think you're overestimating the value we have concerning the number of major corporations the city has. Lacking enough corporate backing is definately a concern for the NFL aside from the TV Market.

Don't worry, If the Saints move to San Antonio, the league will do some realignment and place the Saints in the AFC, and the Jags will move to the NFC. Therefore Cowboy fans here in San Antonio will be happy and not have to pay to see Dallas play. So you won't resent the Saints, and possibly go to a game or two when Dallas plays on a Monday, Saturday or late night Sunday or during a by week. Makes too much sense!
