Banks out at least six weeks with lower leg stress fracture
October 17, 2005
BOSTON (Ticker) - Marcus Banks will miss at least six weeks with a stress fracture in his lower left leg, thinning out the competition for starting point guard of the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics announced Monday that Banks underwent an MRI that revealed a stress fracture in his left tibia. He had missed the last two preseason games with soreness in his left shin.
Banks will be re-evaluated in six weeks, or approximately one month into the season. By that time, the Celtics will have decided on a starting point guard.

Banks was vying with second-year guard Delonte West and journeyman Dan Dickau for the top spot. He was considered the quickest and best defender of the trio.
A 2003 first-round pick, Banks has averaged 5.3 points and 2.0 assists in two seasons, both with the Celtics.
