View Full Version : Podesta group possibly caught up in Saudi Arabian corruption purge
In a shocking development, Saudi press Al Mayadeen reported late on Saturday that prominent billionaire, member of the royal Saudi family, and one of the biggest shareholders of Citi, News Corp. and Twitter - not to mention frequent CNBC guest - Al-Waleed bin Talal, along with ten senior princes, and some 38 ministers, has been arrested for corruption and money laundering charges on orders from the new anti-corruption committee headed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while Royal princes’ private planes have been grounded.

Saudi's need to chop a few princes heads off occasionally to placate the general population and pretend they give a shit about corruption.
Charges are purely for public consumption, only believable to someone like TSA, desperate to associate Democrats with scandal.
Reality:
Previous royal handover saw the younger prince get squashed like a bug by his rivals, and eventually had that faction all but run out of power.
Current monarch is old and in obvious failing health. This is a consolidation of power, with potential rivals being taken off the board, in preparation for the handover to the new king.
The arrests came within hours of the launch of the "investigation", and are held as very clear signals not to eff with the incoming prince, who will be a modernizing influence on the kingdom.
The fucking Wahhabist pieces of shit got muzzled, with the arrest powers of the religious police taken away. HOORAY!!

Arrests came within hours of launch of investigation, and were all part of one ruling clique that had questioned actions taken by top prince, first in line for sucesssion.
Ian Black of the London School of Economics said the move fit a "pattern of accelerated change" since Mohammed bin Salman became heir to the throne.
"We've seen since June this year, very far-reaching changes," he said, adding: "That was when Mohammed bin Salman, the son of King Salman, was appointed crown prince.
"Since Mohammed bin Salman became the crown prince in June, we've seen a lot of upheaval. We've seen the announcement of this very ambitious Saudi plan to transform the country, the Saudi economy, Vision 2030."

"There have been signs over the last two and a half years that more of this is coming. [Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman] is raising the leverage of power in Saudi Arabia. He certainly has the blessings of his father, King Salman, and he's determined to make all kinds of changes in Saudi Arabia itself and in Saudi foreign policy, which led to the war in Yemen and the Gulf crisis.
But internally this is new. Not only do we have a new chapter opening up in Saudi Arabia, we have a whole new book, a whole new political alphabet with one exception: It's still all done in secrecy. Why those 11 princes, why those four standing ministers? Is it really just to consolidate power or is there more to it?
Why isn't there more transparency and sharing of evidence about the setting up of the committee? We really are on the brink of dramatic changes.
In 2015, Mohammed bin Salman became minister of defence. Just a few months ago, he became the head of all the internal security forces because they got rid of Mohammed bin Nayef, then crown prince. Now he's taken control of the third most important security apparatus within the country, so he has defence, he is in control of interior, and now he is in control of the guards.
Clearly, he has the stage set. Clearly all the heads of all the major media networks, newspapers, and commentators were all already groomed, set in motion in order to defend the crown prince and his policies. There are already new songs for the crown prince and his glory, so internally they are definitely setting the stage in terms of the three security apparatuses, the media and so o

Does the dashboard say when the twitter feeds start pushing certain topics? If so I'd like you to cross reference the time your dashboard said topics were being pushed and when I posted a corresponding topic. Honestly curious as I am not on any social media.
Yes actually it does give timeline graphs.
You may not be on twitter, but others, who post or write for whatever news sources you do choose, are.

No expert on Saudi Arabia thinks that Trump has a "hand" in Saudi politics, other than a hand out for cash. :lmao
"You're blind if you don't see this invisible dragon". :lol
You are blind if you think this administration is staffed, and competent enough to do anything in the foreign policy arena. You haven't been paying attention to the level of incompetence being put in important positions across the entire government, from commerce, through treasury, through the DOS.
Trump has, almost uniformly, picked loyalists whose only qualification was that they were loyal.
Nuclear scientist replaced by Ricky Perry. Chief scientist nomination is talk show host, etc, etc, etc, etc. Senators of both parties have been shocked at the stupidity of nominees.

My take:
I don't think he believes it in the slightest. He is just trolling at this point, and that is really obvious to me.
I think he knows on some level he has lost all credibility and is essentially waving the white flag. He has stopped trying.
I would guess that he even knows that Trump's campaign did actually collude with the Russians, and that Hillary didn't. He is an ass, but not quite this level of dumb.

I can smell the burning rubber from here.
He is trying to use his "had a hand in this" to weasel out of it.
You stated it as "all the Saudis", so that gives him maneuver room to say he really meant "some", which is easy to imply.
He will be unable to prove even "one", because the level of proof that the Saudis arrested anyone at Trumps behest would not be available. Any such communication would be, if it existed a closely guarded secret, and certainly classified.
.
No such communication likely exists, because Trump's administration is too "thin". They can't even concentrate on getting "must pass" legislation through, let alone have someone with enough expertise and knowledge to even know how to ask the Saudis for such a thing, *if* they knew who to go after, which assumes a level of competence that has yet to be demonstrated.
In short, an understaffed, incompetent administration that leaks like a sieve is not a likely agent behind some shadowy arrests in a foreign country.
Occams razor cuts the shit out of that.
Fun to see TSA tap dance though. :tu

I would not presume to do so, and would instead invite you to clearly state what you think, as the best way to clear anything up.
"a hand in" is a bit ambiguous, IMO. Kind of hard to bitch about people trying to fill in the gaps, if you can't be clear in the first place. Seems to me if you are upset about someone attempting to restate your position, the best way to do that is to clearly and unambiguously state it.

Just your typical "consolidation of power"
"Some, but not all, of the top figures arrested were singled out for the most brutal treatment, suffering wounds to the body sustained by classic torture methods. There are no wounds to their faces, so they will show no physical signs of their ordeal when they next appear in public.
Some detainees were tortured to reveal details of their bank accounts. MEE is unable to report specific details about the abuse they suffered in order to protect the anonymity of its sources."
