View Full Version : Flat earther build rocket to test his theory

I am sensing a future Darwin award recipient...

Science has long been the target of conspiracy theories, some of which have persisted for centuries.*
A man who remains convinced that the*Earth*is*flat*intends to prove it once and for all, and an effort to that end will involve launching himself 1,800 feet through the sky and taking photos of the big blue ball we call home, according to a new report from*Newsweek.
Mike Hughes of California says he’s going to do so in a rocket he built out of scrap metal. :rollin

According to*Forbes, the trip is slated for*Saturday*afternoon and will take place in the Mojave Desert.*

"It’ll shut the door on this ball*earth," Hughes recently promised some of his fellow "flat*Earthers" according to*the*Washington Post.
He’s also expressed a desire to expose the round-planet lies that*NASA*and SpaceX peddle as fact.*
This isn’t Hughes’ first flight in a rocket he put together himself.*In 2014, he*made*it about a quarter mile over Arizona before his craft crashed.*
He spent the following two weeks in a walker, but that clearly didn’t dampen his dreams.

We all know this will result on his death (if he really ends up doing it, which I doubt). I wonder if there's any law to prevent this.

He will get cooked by the Van Allen radiation belt if he goes too high. There is also the dome theory, with the snow globe Earth basically. The dome is impenetrable according to speculation.

'Mad' Mike Hughes eyes Monday for new launch date of homemade steam-powered rocket

He was scheduled to blast off last weekend, but he didn't have the proper permits from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Dude is gonna die, better have his footage stored in a black box of some sort or transfered to somewhere else on the fly.

Still waiting...

Wonder which happens first: 1) Leonard returns or 2) Mike launches

In the meantime, here are some select excerpts that should bolster our confidence in the mission:

“I am sleeping in the rocket launcher every nite.”

— though he acknowledged that he still had much to learn about rocket science. “This whole tech thing,” he said in the June interview. “I’m really behind the eight ball.”

He built his first manned rocket in 2014, the Associated Press reported, and managed to launch it a quarter-mile over Winkelman, Ariz.

As seen in a YouTube video, the flight ended with footage of Hughes being dragged, moaning, from the remains (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3feaiPcv6yE) of the rocket. The injuries he suffered put him in a walker for two weeks, he said.

Hughes made other pitches, including a plan to fly over Texas in a “SkyLimo.” But he complained to Ars Technica last year (https://arstechnica.com/science/2016/03/mad-mike-built-a-rocket-so-he-can-jump-the-grand-canyon-of-texas/) about the difficulty of funding his dreams on a chauffeur’s meager salary.

“We were kind of looking for new sponsors for this. And I’m a believer in the flat Earth,” Hughes said. “I researched it for several months.”

Hughes had actually flown in a rocket, he noted, whereas astronauts were merely paid actors performing in front of a CGI globe.

“John Glenn and Neil Armstrong are Freemasons,” Hughes agreed. “Once you understand that, you understand the roots of the deception.”

He told Ars Technica last year that the second phase of his mission might involve floating in a balloon up to 20,000 feet above the ground, then rocket-packing himself into space.

“It’s scary as hell,” Hughes told the AP. “But none of us are getting out of this world alive.”

Rocket Damaged!

Although only superficial ( at this stage ) Mad Mike Hughes is adamant that this won't put a damper on his plans to launch his steam powered rocket in Amboy. The Rocket fell off the trailer while being moved as was then dragged across the road. Reports at this stage don't give us too much insight, but a statement from Mike Hughes is expected on this soon

That looks like the kind of rocket I would build if someone told me to build something that looked like a rocket (but don't worry about if it works or not).

So he gets up into space sees a disc, comes down, the earth is a flat disc.

The only thing that is certain, is he can't buy life insurance. And he will die if he actually makes it up high enough to experience real pressure in temperature changes. That guy did pull some serious g's. I bet he passed out.

I think all of this flat earth stuff that's been on the inernet lately is probably a creation of a public-relations agency. They can associate all conspiracy theories with this one to discredit the legitimate conspiracy theories*.

Here's an example of some of their BS.

Why do you think the Earth is round?

So he can build a working rocket but can't install 360 video cameras? so that 1) we can all see and 2) he doesn't have to die.

360 video cameras that show a picture on a 2-d screen....
I have tried to reason with a flat earther that owns a bike shop by my house. Good guy.... But...
some of these guys could see the oceans and continents rotating and they would tell you it's video manipulation, it's a disc. Then you ask, what's on the other side of their disc... And they don't know. So you say the round model really fits observations and explains the aforementioned and they say... so what.

So we talk about fixing my bike. And laugh.

All you need is a weather balloon, camera, and GPS tracker. Plenty of people have done this. There are some fantastic photos by amateurs. People believe water is H2O and yet they will never see it with their eyes... Go figure.

Yeah...that was the point I was after. Has he posted any pictures or videos of our flat earth? Or is everyone just supposed to take his word for it?
All this rocket shit is either 1) for publicity or 2) he's just crazy as shit and wanted to fly in a rocket.
