He's been playing up to his contract, but it wasn't a great deal to give him money for three more years in any event. Even if they have given him a new $35M/2 contract, it would have been okay.

He's looked a lot more comfortable as of late out there. Actually being a bit more aggressive. Just knows how he fits better I would think. The talent was always there and I don't think the problem was ever that he looked washed up overnight.

Not concerned. Similar to Duncan, he's the archetype who generally ages best (so is Aldridge) and can sustain for longer periods, too. I realize he struggled in the playoffs last season, but I don't think it was fatigue related. Sometimes, players just struggle for no rhyme or reason. 3-point shooting in particular, he was due for regression to the mean.

His arrogance and sometimes lazy/soft play can be overbearing at times, but he also hasn't gotten enough credit for the level he's still playing at.

He has been great, but he's still overpaid for today's NBA that doesn't permit to play two traditional bigs when things really matter.

True, but it's still a luxury to possess the capability of having at least one center sized big with the ability of Aldridge and Gasol on the floor for ever meaningful minute.

He’s playing great so far - on both ends (at least to his potential on defense). The question becomes can he keep this up for years and more importantly can he be effective in the playoffs or will teams going small and game planning render him useless more or less?

But as far as the regular season goes he’s definitley doing his part to help SA win games. His elite 3PT shooting last year was great and his overall game has been great this year. I’m most pleased with his contested rebounding. That has been an issue with him and hes done well in that department to start the year.

Great to see Pau doing so well. His overall skillset and IQ is probably top 10 in the league. It’s also sad to see how much of a 3-point chucking league it has become. Duncan, Pau, there’s literally no current big that have close to the post games they had in their primes.

I find it difficult to complain at all about Pau lately, he's shooting and playing a lot better than Patty so...

Also, I can't stand Lauvergne. What he showed in preseason is not his regular season version. Every time Joff comes in, the team looks disjointed. Maybe he will get better but I am not hopeful.

He's going to be expensive. I expect him to do well in the postseason too. He already played well last postseason while having a lot less experience and confidence.

I thought considering that PATFO decided to extend Lamarcus, and give long term deals to Pau and Patty, that they plan to keep this team together. It became clear they weren't going for capspace next summer and a trade is now the only way to reshape the roster if they want to. Even if they wanted to trade him in the future, it was useful to have him under contract so I think a deal didn't get done because they penny pinched him hard... Now, they have to be ready for whatever comes their way.

I'll never forget that time somebody said "This contract is actually good for future free agents. They'll see we took care of Pau after he showed loyalty to us"

A 1yr player who passed you up for the Bulls got paid $48,000,000 for being loyal :lol

Edit: Found it

Showing loyalty to a player is a great marketing tool to free agents for a small-market team. Pau did the Spurs a favor, so they paid it back. They did it in a manner which favors the player, and it's a smart move for the future.

In addition to only playing 62 games with the team before he was considered "loyal".

At least over-the-hill FA's now know who to look to when they need a fat paycheck to end their careers. :lol

I expect Pop to continue to find ways to play him bc this isn’t Kyle or Davis, who Pop can bury in the deep bench at times. He’s signed for multiple years which is kind of the alarming part.

I have thought recently they mostly stand pat next summer but now I am not too sure. He’s had his good games on ocassion but is becoming a kind of situational player for which you just don’t pay $16 million

Well have to see I expect Pop to try to get him going some how.

His 1.3PPG on 16% shooting week was bound to get someone to bump this.

He's still been mostly good this season, but his token starting role should end. As a LMA back-up and situational 2-center line-ups he's more than fine, especially when his 3 point shot is falling.

Pau the last 3 games: In 55 minutes, 2/12 FGA, 0/0 FTA, 0/1 3PA, 14 RB, 4 A, 1 BK, 0 Steals.
Constantly flat footed, on rebounds, loose balls, passes.

He might need a rest game. For his age, and I think he's one of the few guys who has not been rested.
Even Lamarcus rested the OKC game that Pop threw away earlier this month.

Im not a fan of pau because against the 2 best teams in the West he sux so what he does against the kings or suns means little. Against the rockets hes too slow on d and on offense when ariza or a small are on him, he misses a fadeaway, or gets stripped or fucks up some other way. He’s almost as bad against the warriors. In the playoffs last year I don’t recall one good playoff game and now he’s older and slower. He was 54% from 3 in the regular season last year. He was bad from 3 in the playoffs tho
But at least he plays well against bottom feeders...

Pau has been arguably the second best player on the team this year and no worse than third or fourth. Some don't want to give him credit because of his contract. Others have real points but do fixate on his weaknesses, rather than his strengths. Others are just trolls or people that need to bash players to make themselves feel relevant.

Pau's had a tripe double and what 17 boards in his last two starts. Seems an odd time to be down on the guy.
