Curious to see how UCF does against Auburn. If they win that game convincingly it might change how the committee thinks about Non-P5 schools...

Houston lost to UConn that year (just looked it up). That right there is a reason not to move the needle.

You need an undefeated team like UCF to maybe get the committee's attention. But, you're right...it probably won't. Unless they move it to 8 teams a non-P5 school won't get in. And even if they do....it'll be tough.

So many shitty bowls...I don't get why you couldn't cut a few of them out and make an 8 team bracket. Just get rid of those shitty bowls on the 16th and play the quarterfinals then. That way it breaks up the time off and there isn't such a long layoff from the end of the season until they play again. Gives the teams several weeks to deal with any minor injuries that might come up too.

With a ton of bowl games this gives those 5 wins teams a reason to play late in a season, so...good thing.

I'm a more is better when it comes to football, why not have a game on a night?

I seriously doubt any team not ranked in the top 4 is winning a National title so an 8 game playoff system, nay~~~~ 4 is perfect. BUT.....a team MUST win the conference to be in the top 4. The debate is what power five champ didn't make it.

How does an Auburn get up for a UCF? Obviously just the total opposite for UCF, they will be stoked.

Beautiful pass by Hurts to make it 17-3 Bama that got erased by ClemsonRef.
Super obvious jersey hold by Clemson DB.

Another would-be t.d. throw was the underthrown pass by Hurts. However a good receiver hauls that in. Bama WR caught ball, then let Clemson db knock the cookie away. Yes it was underthrown, but receiver needs to catch and bring in -hard- after the catch. All in one motion.
I think Hurts was good last night in passing.

Alabama is one of the 4 best teams. You're either OK with a team getting in without winning their conf or you aren't. So if you have a problem with Bama getting in this year, i hope you had a similar problem with Ohio St getting in last year. Personally i think the way both years played out is fine.

Here's my outlook on Alabama not deserving it because they didn't win their conference championship:

You can be outraged by it. I won't say that your opinion is necessarily wrong. I myself think Conference Championships are important and should be taken into consideration. However, they are only part of the equation. In a system that only states, "The best 4 get in." Alabama deserves to be one of the four. I think last night kinda proved that. You wanna make a new rule stating that you must be a conference champion to get in...I'll listen to the argument and will probably vote yes with you. But, that's not where we are right now.

All four teams that got in deserved to be in it. All four. The committee got it right this year. The only team I ever disagreed with the committee on was TCU a few years ago when Ohio St. (the team that won the Nat'l Championship that year) got in over them. That team was unbelievable and got hosed. They could have done damage in the playoff.

01-03-2018, 12:38 PM
I really don't get all the conference counting. Ohio state fans were pissed at Michigan for losing because it blemishes their argument that the Big X is the toughest. SEC will use the argument that the championship game is an all SEC contest, Big XII fans will argue that they had a great bowl season and UCF fans will argue that the five power conferences unfairly assume that only their teams can compete for the title. All are right to some extent, I guess, but it begs the question as to what extent the bowl games mimic more meaningful contests. Players sit out, some teams are in coaching transitions, some teams are deflated, some teams have something to prove, etc., and so the question is whether or not judging conference strength by these bowl games is really the standard.

Blake

All you're doing to say "they deserve it" is using the eye test.

This is what happens when you root for a conference. Alabama has really ruled CFB for the past 6 or so years. Ohio St. Clemson, a poor 2nd. Choklahoma... I put them last for choking.

I am happy it's an SEC final for one reason. It means Oklahoma, with Baker Mayfield, LOST. The other game meh...
The world is good. We have to keep these beautiful hateful in conference rivalries alive IMO. The teams in the SEC actually chant SEC? If it was a confederacy thing I would get it. Otherwise, I really don't like any system requiring one to wish in conference foes to win.

So, go beat up your neighbor next door, not the guy from another city. That's what UT has done with Aggie for eons. Beat up little cousin. And they still hate us for it. It's a beautiful thing.

any fan base that roots for its conference's teams to win is doing the equivalent to 'chanting', and the fact that I see so many fans posting their conference tallies in regards to bowl games won is indicative of this. and, of course, this is all about validating some sort of 'feel good' about how good one's team really is since they play a supposedly tougher schedule (or are a part of the 'best' conference) but that plays to the broader point about how this will continue as long as there is a 4 team playoff format.

Yep.

Personally I think the two best teams over the season are in. I don't like the fact Ohio St. & Alabama got byed into the final 4. I am ambivalent about conference championships. On the one hand, if you have too many teams in a conference you can't play everyone and it makes sense. But then it turns into having 4???? out of conference games, 3 of which are against div II level teams? Bad news. I really dont know what it means to win your conference at present.

The good thing about this year's final is that it might act as a conference championship and a National championship game.

Who can do Georgia?

That's funny. It sounds like a nickname Spurstalk would give an underperformer.

So what's everyone feeling tonight? Bama gonna run away with it? Georgia gonna keep it close or even win?

Bama - 27
Georgia - 6

Alabama rolls to an easy win, imo. Just foolish to pick a Georgia sports team to win a big game.

Thought it was a great run myself. They basically forced him out of bounds but he managed to maintain great balance control.

Bama got absolutely dominated this half and they're only down 13. Still expecting a typical Georgia sports choke.

Refs stepping in for Bama now.

Georgia back in choke mode now. What a horrible pick by Fromm. This choke is going to be just like the Falcons' choke: not running the ball enough.

It's beyond mind-numbing at this point. Chubb hasn't hard more than a two yard gain while often getting negative yardage while Michel has had several huge runs, yet they keep going away from him.

Georgia's play callers are idiots for having Chubb as their first option.
By the same token, Alabamas playcalling was retarded until the second or third series with Hawaiian QB.

Sabans Bama championships
Was his other one with LSU in 2003 contested?
Or do most if not all reasonable voters consider LSU the 2003 Champions?

Also very interesting chart.
I sure hope Lebron or anyone other then Phaggot State wins the title.
The Pop's are done as of June 2014 with no more Timmy Duncan to overcome Numb Nutts.
