I am not a fan of it either, specially young guys. Only the "senior citizens" and guys coming back from injury like Tony and Manu should get a rest game here or there and that is bc their healing process is a slower and they have a lot of miles and bumps in those bodies over the years.
This is what I agree with 100%. I had no problem resting Tim, Manu and now Tony (because he's coming back from a major injury). No one else should be resting (sorry, forgot to mention Rudy too). Tim was playing 40 minutes plus in all the big games when he was Kawhi's age. It's fucking ridiculous.
You're putting more stress and strain on the healthy players that are there. Danny and Kyle have both been playing hard this season and now they're injured. So my logic is that all this resting of healthy players can have more negative effects than positive ones. The other one being your main players aren't ready for extended minutes in the playoffs and they can't perform under physical duress when their minutes are increased. they tire to easily, and that could be disasterous with the game up for grabs in the later stages of it, or at the end of the game when it's on the line.
Even back in 2010, or whenever Malik Hairston was here is when I first disagreed with it. Don't ask me why I mentioned Malik, it's just around that time I remember Pop doing it and I've disagreed with it ever since. I agree with Tim Grover (Jordan and D-Wade's former trainer) in regards to resting. He thinks players can't learn to push through fatigue and build mental toughness from it for when it really matters.
And the other issue is, how long does Tony and Rudy have to keep playing the same amount of limited minutes? Surely if they're cleared 100% and have been back a while, how would keeping them at the exact same amount of minutes make the chances or re-injury less? I agree Tony's minutes should still be limited, but what about Rudy? How long do you continue to play him limited minutes? He still needs to learn the plays and learn/improve on defense. He's not going to do that without court time.

He’s exerting energy and playing within the system. Some mistakes and fouls when he gets beat still, but he’s not a designated hitter that you can only play when the other team is playing an Andre Roberson or Tony Allen.

What in the fuck is this clown of a coach doing. This predetermined resting shit has to stop.
I'll use the UFC for an example. If I fighter doesn't take any damage in a fight, then they can have another fight with a quick turnaround time if they want to.
If Pau isn't fatigued and feeling good, there's no need to rest him. Just limit his minutes in the next game depending on how it's going.

He and Davis have improved a lot. There were times Jaylen got the best of him, but it was on the open court or when the guy had a step on him. He can't be expected to do much more than he did in those situations. He didn't commit stupid fouls or gambles. When he was posted up he held his ground. He's a lot stronger than he was last season. He competes, doesn't miss rotations.

I have a theory which is that Duncan's meniscus injury in '00 traumatized Pop. Prior to that injury he didn't care so much about resting guys but I feel that injury planted the seeds for his obsession with rest.
Tim still played big minutes after that injury, though. It was later on when he was older that Pop started resting him. What was that degenerative condition that Tim had? Tendonosis? I recall the resting with Tim starting after that 2009 season where he was playing on one leg in the playoffs and also around the time he was diagnosed with Tendonosis that Pop started resting him. I always agreed with resting Tim from there on 100%, just not with anyone else until recently with Manu (2014 onward) and Tony (2015 onward). Pau's already playing somewhat limited minutes and he seems healthy, so I don't think he should be resting. Rudy and TP due to major injures, yes on those two, but in Rudy's case, I think it's time to start increasing his minutes if he's feeling good. He needs the time to learn the defense better and the offense too. I think the other day he said he's still learning and winging it at times.

He competes, doesn't miss rotations.
that was 35 minutes he played. He's in phenomenal shape. Hope we keep him.
My offseason priorities are to 1) move 50Mills (unless we get lucky and move him sooner), 2) re-sign Danny, ) re-sign Kyle, 3) re-sign Rudy and 4) re-sign Bryn.

I'm very impressed with Bryn's improvement on the defensive end from last season to this one so far he's looked like a different player on that end of the court. Davis, lately has looked so much better defensively too. I hear he worked with Tim recently on his defense, and it appears to be paying off so far. Tim's tutelage seems to have helped greatly.

If not yet, how much more time do you guys think before Rudy should start getting more minutes?
He needs the time to learn the defense better and the offense too. I think the other day he said he's still learning and winging it at times.
Since Kyle got injured Rudy's minutes got boosted. He's played 32 minutes and tonight 29. He's had sore backs and has been reported with heel tendon pain. I think when we get Kyle or Kawhi back, whoever comes first (bc I can't assume with Kawhi until I see him play at this point) he should go back to 25 or whatever. I don't like the heel pain updates on him on the injury list. Got to spare him some still until he's 100% IMO.

I really think Pop is pulling a 2013 and has an open competition for the backup guard spot. Some folks try to carve out roles for Murray, but I don't think Pop cares about that. If Bryn keeps playing the way he is, I think Pop ponies up to keep him. It doesn't make a whole bunch of sense personnel-wise, but you don't let guys go just for that.

I've been saying this shit for YEARS. If a team is down 3, with no timeouts and a few seconds left, WHY DO COACHES HAVE PLAYERS IN THE PAINT? You line your entire team up around that 3 point line giving up basket under the rim because if you get the ball and get fouled, even if you miss a freethrow, they don't have any time outs. I'll take my chances at a team hitting a half court shot than a wide open 3 to tie the game. I've never seen an NBA coach do that shit. You got Rudy Gay sitting down low as Irving used a screen to get wide open. If that 3 point line was guarded, No one could have got to it to shoot anything. These type of plays are gonna fuck us over in the playoffsas it did in 2013

Your Rudy argument is the same argument I make for DJ... It is even more needed for DJ since he is practically a rookie

You don't fight thru screens when the strategy is to switch everything tho...
But that clearly wasn't the strategy since he ended up wide open... That was a situation where the point guard needed to call out the switch, and either called it late, or didn't call it at all... When everyone knows there is a switch to be made, you usually don't see players completely wide open, and the defender picking up the slack super late

U guys are looking at the small picture... Bryn is an upgraded patty mills... That won't fly in the playoffs... We need a starter point guard that can play defense and make plays, break down the defense, etc... Bryn won't get those open looks, and his defense is too bad to play long periods of time VS the top teams... Tony is pretty much guaranteed to either disappear or get injured... they had no timeouts letf. Even if they get a quick 2(that we all knew they weren't going for). you get the ball back, run 2 seconds off the clock before a foul. even if you hit one of the freethrows(regardless of which one). they have 2 seconds to get the ball back up court for a score. Different titles, but same responsibilities for said position: Same in Hollywood... Same in the government, but they're called "career"... Same in large corporations... Same at schools... Same at hospitals... Same in law enforcement... I guess I can say etc. now.
More depressing than interesting, really.
