That was a clean block.

Yep, Sunrefs (and Pop) keeping it close.

Even so, not many young guys - euros or collegians - have breakout seasons in season 1 with the Spurs.
good point.
but what I meant is, he's tried to make it in the league b4 and never stuck anywhere past training camp.
a breakout season for him is to become a nice rotation player. Pop thinks he might (with that comment about guys like that sometimes turning the light on). We shall see. as you said still early in the season.

Not for me. I was looking forward to seeing what the young guys could do. But Pop is doing his best to undermine their chances.

After the best win of the season the Spurs are on the verge of suffering their worst. They really are a pottery team tbh; they're a work of art.

Our lineup is at like 30% potential right now. The only two legitimate starters we have are LMA and Gay, and they are playing on a B2B after a big game.

I agree...we need DJ to develop, and he's seriously regressed since the start of the season.

That's why you don't overreact after a 3-game sample size tho. Parker couldn't return soon enough.

in this game. he's obviously played 35 minutes last night and a lot in this one. hes also gone 5/5 2/2 etc. He made the most important basket cold blooded. I am not overrating him. But he's become a nice rotation player. It's fine to root for those guys you know. Pop played Hilliard but not Costello... hm? Do you have a conspiracy theory for that one Chinook (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=37557)?

Castello in the G-League according to the box score on Yahoo.

ok thanks for that information. I wasn't even paying attention to him during the game or anything (to see whether he was in uniform or not)...

the question just came into my mind after seeing that Hilliard got the call but Costello didn't.

I figure now that Pop planned to rely heavily on Lamarcus with just a shade of a sighting for Lauvergne.

It's just weird to me that one of the gleaguers played but the other didn't.

Say what you like about Forbes, you know he's a shooter when He's not afraid to take that last shot for 3 after he's had a bad night percentage wise. It takes that cold-blooded ability to take that last shot regardless that is revealing. Obviously, Manu has always had it.

I could have sworn I saw Costello on the bench. If he were there, then his two-way thing would kick in even if he didn't play, so I'm going to go ahead and assume Yahoo knows what it's doing there.

then I am assuming he was there for foul trouble or injuies together with Hilliard and HIlliard getting minutes in this game was a casualty of the rook White turning the ball over and Pop having an extremely short hook with him and deciding to play Hilliard a few minutes instead. I didn't see Hilliard in the second half I don't think. Oh well satisfies my curiosity.

thanks

Yes, Rockets are about to lose!

Nah, they aren't the Spurs. They're actual contenders who win.

I'm amused at the good reviews Forbes is getting despite shooting badly, and having a lot of turnovers... Yet if it were Murray, ppl would have been calling for his head... With no regard for the fact that Murray does other things well... Ppl give Kyle a chance until this year when he started to play decent for the first time, yet don't want to give a much younger player with a higher ceiling a chance... Own your hypocrisy

Very mysterious that "shooter" Forbes shoots a FT% of 41, but 83% last season.

In his worst years, TD shot better.

He shot 6 FTs last year and 17 FTs this year. That's a tiny sample size.

I want to see more of White tbh...he made two solid drives to the bucket and scored yesterday. Small sample but he already looking better around the rim than Murray

Yeah I'm hoping white shakes out so Patty and Murray can be six man type gunners rather than pg. You need a smart player to be pg, and mills isn't fit, he's all rhythm shooting. Murray is street smart and knows how to work his body to get to the rim. But I don't see him with great chemistry at any level of play since the original summer league.

In today's NBA he has to improve his shooting a lot to make it as a PG - not to mention his handles and decision-making. Definitely a no-go at SG.

It's like TD 21 said and I quote him bc he was really more succinct than I can ever put it:

.... between the extremely loose handle and the non existent jump shot, I can't remember a PG like this being successful and the fact that he's shown no improvement in either area 16 months after being drafted doesn't inspire confidence.

Smart, Carter-Williams, Dunn, Mudiay, Payton, Exum, are all recent examples of hyped PG's who struggled in at least one of these areas (all were at least willing jump shooters though) and right now Payton is the only starter and he's a low end one at that.

I tend to think Dijon is a guy who through all of his high school and the one college season, got by on his quickness and his physical gifts alone, which were tremendously notable and dominant at the lower levels. Now he needs to add the part that is "between the ears", as well as a better and more complete offensive game. He's basically learning how to play as a real PG right now is how I see it, and we will just have to see what happens with him. He can be really good in a few years... or like some of the guys above, basically remain the same guy. That means they are NBA players, but not stars. hhhmmmm.

Yeah, I have gone 180° on Dijon. I thought the "sink-or-swim" approach would be good last year, especially with Tony's play for the first part of last season. I think I was a little blinded by his athleticism (like PATFO). But the SL and now a quarter of this season have convinced me that he is more like the second coming of MCW (with apologies to Kawhistorm).

Murray's problems are mental. He has issues to clean up, but he's not behind other players his age. He really just can't shoot. Of he could do that, Pop could play him more off the ball and let him grow that way. Everything from finishing to defense would be easier if he had a shot as his foundation.

I just wonder what happens if he never develops a jumpshot.. or let's say he doesn't develop it within the next couple of seasons (and for this one we already know he doesn't have it).
